Another week, another loss.
The swan song of Jayson Matthews.
But even though he didn't win the five pack challenge that night he did win another battle.
He grinned as he quickly packed his things into his duffel bag. His ring gear, some of his over night things, and of course last but certainly not least, his freshly won IWF INVICTUS Championship. He placed it in the bag and went to zip the zipper, but the gleam of the championship caught his eye and he stopped half way. He reached back in and pulled the title back out of the bag and looked at it one more time. He gazed at it in awe, finally, he actually held a title! It was a little too good to be true.
“WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU?!?!?!?”
A voice that he could hear almost rumbling the hallways in the distance broke him out of his trance and immediately transferred him into panic mode. If he had to guess, it would probably belong to Cyrus Daniels, and he sounded extremely pissed off! He didn't want to stick around and find out. He threw the title into the bag, scooped it onto his shoulder, and he did his best Usain Bolt and took off sprinting down the hallway. Whoever it was that was yelling see's him and starts chasing after him. The man behind him nearly catches up but Jayson was faster and just able to out run his assailant. He dives into the back of a brown van and it burns out before finally taking off like a bat out of hell from the arena parking lot!
The back of the van had been gutted up to the driver and passenger seats. Jayson just laid on the floor and he couldn't help but start laughing. He had endured so many beatings in his career and finally he had something to show for it. It wasn't the big time, but it was something all it's own, and it was something he could call his own. It was validation! It was a reason to carry on. It was a....
Jayson Matthews: WOAH.....OOF!!!
The van suddenly took a hard right and Jayson took a hard roll into the side of the van. He gets into a seated position and holds his nose and checks to see if he's bleeding. That's when the old man with the Hawaiian shirt and the white beard is seen sitting in the background.
Old Man: For heavens sake Rufus watch those turns!!!
Of course, he actually has a chair with a seat belt. The old man looks at Jayson and smiles.
Old Man: Congratulations on your success in winning the Invictus Championship. You winning the belt only helps prove my case that you are the chosen in then ancient art of Invictus.”
Jayson digs into his bag and pulls out the championship. He grabs it by the center and throws the strap over his shoulder and then he pats it with pride.
Jayson Matthews: I still don't know anything about the art of invictus or anything but it's awesome to be a champion in IWF.
The old man chuckles.
Old Man: You'll know all you need to know soon enough, but now you know that being champion comes with responsibilities.
Jayson nods his head but he was barely listening. He was just so excited and couldn't help but think of all the things he was going to do now as champion. It was gonna be awesome.
Old Man: The title is under 24/7 rule. That means that you can be challenged for the title at anytime. You could just be standing in line at the movies and some one could try to take your title. You'll have to be ready at all times, at any moment. Constantly looking over your shoulder. One wrong move and it will be all over for you.
Jayson's face got paler every time the old man said a word.
Jayson Matthews: I should have known there was no such thing as a nap match! That sounds AWFUL. Here, I don't want the belt anymore.
He tries to hand the belt to the old man who shakes his head and pushes it back toward Jayson.
Old Man: no, it's yours. You are the prophecy, young Jayson.
Jayson pushes the title back toward the old man.
Jayson Matthews: But I don't wanna be the prophecy.....seriously dude, I'm good. Pin me.
Jayson lets go of the belt and lays down on the ground.
Old Man: It's too late you already are. I'll teach you what it takes to be Invictus.
Jayson shakes his head while lying on the ground.
Jayson Matthews: No dice old man. Pin me and pay me.
Old Man: Please just listen to me I-
Jayson Matthews: WOAHHHH.......OOOOFFF!
Another hard turn and Jayson rolls to the side of the van and smacks his face off the side and gets himself knocked out.
Old Man: RUFUS! Watch the turns!
He sighs.
Old Man: we have a long way to go with this one.

Silver looked good on him.
You could feel how proud he was to stand in front of the camera with a belt on his shoulder. He patted it for effect and then he began to speak.
“Guess who is the NEW Invictus Champion! Oh yeah, it's me baby! Jayson Matthews. And I have to say it feels great to finally win one of these babies. After the wars I've been through it feels great to finally have something to show for it all. And this goes out to the former champ Cyrus Daniels. I heard through the grape vine that you weren't very happy about how I pinned you for the title while you were in the locker room sleeping. Well bro, while you were in the locker room sleeping your career away, I took advantage of a pretty kick ass opportunity. Then I cheered and then you woke up and well you know the rest.
But don't get me wrong dude, I know your not done with me or this belt. And I figure your going to want to come and kick my ass like many have tried and been able to pull off well I'll tell you what Cyrus....I only have one word to say to you....”
He raises his hand to the screen and does the just bring it hand motion.
“Cha'mon!”
He hods his head.
“Cha'mon tough guy! Let's see what you got because I'm not running anywhere. You want this belt back then all you have to do is come find me and squash me...if you can. Cha'mon Cyrus....I'll be at Sacrifice in the middle of the ring against Rob Diamond! Maybe you'll meet me out there after your afternoon nap because your so tired after all those matches you've been having!
He clears his throat.
“Speaking of Rob Diamond....excuse me while I mark out....you know I was sort of disappointing that he didn't rip me up this week. It's kind of his thing. But instead he surprised me with a lot of nice things. That I may or may not have cried over depending on who you asked. I was truly appreciative and inspired. It truly means a lot and I thank you. It feels really good that he said those things because.....I've fantasized about Rob Diamond.”
He realizes how strange that sounds.
“I mean, when I think about becoming a world champion when I think about who is on the other end of the ring, a lot of the times it's Rob Diamond. Rob Diamond is a legend in this buisness. The one man who has been a constant in this industry. The one man who never really left for too long, the one man who never really fizzled out. When guys like Steve Awesome, Adam Knite and even Spike Kane some times, are beginning to fade out and step out of the lime light, Rob Diamond has always been there. Never faltering and never changing who he was.
That's why I always respected Rob Diamond.
Whether you loved him or you hated him he was never sorry about who he was. And that is part of what made him a legend. Part of what made him somebody I looked up too. That's why Rob, I don't think you have to change who you are, to be a hero. Your the inFamous Rob Diamond. You have successfully traversed the rabbit hole that is bad guy and made it out the other side to kick ass respected bad guy.
Your the guy that shows smart alec blue collar guys that they don't have to take all the bull crap they get in life. You help to show people that the Roberto Verona's in there life can and will get what they have coming to them. Sure you've a little brash at times, but sometimes confidence ain't pretty. You've been a hero this whole time Rob, because your my hero. And if anybody can win the roulette match and finally put Verona in his place....I think it's the InFamous Rob Diamond that can get it done.
But that's just my opinion.
And don't worry Rob....you'll be getting your request. Because this week it's me verse you at Sacrifice. Something people in my position salivate at the thought of. Everyone is watching, this is the moment I'm able to finally show the world what I can do in a big match situation. The pressure is on. I feel like a powder keg and I'm almost ready to explode and take off....but all I need is the right moment. The right atmosphere. The right kind of fire!
Rob Diamond.
You don't have to tell me how much fight to bring because this Monday I bring every last drop. This Monday I come to Sacrifice with everything to gain and barely anything to lose. I come to Sacrifice this monday ready to explode and all I need is one moment. All I need is that right spark and it's on like donkey kong. I come to Sacrifice ready for the biggest fight of my career and there's a high chance that Rob will put me down on his march to the Roulette, and like many of his opponents in the past....
Or this Sacrifice could be that one moment.....
So Rob....
He puts his hand up and motions for him to bring it.
“Cha'mon!”
He pats the Invictus title.
“Light my fire baby.”
````````````````````````````````````````````````
Jayson puts the key into the door of the home he shared with his sister and Steve Awesome. As soon as he entered the door he could hear crying from the kitchen. He takes off down the hall and to the right to find Mandi crying on the table.
Jayson Matthews: What's wrong?
She was sobbing deep. It was an ugly cry.
Mandi Matthews: Steve left!
She buries her head back into her arms and cries some more and Jayson clenches his fist.
Jayson Matthews: I'll find that asshole! Don't worry sis.
He hugs her, but glares at the thought of Steve hurting her. And the thought of him hurting Steve.
Fade.
The swan song of Jayson Matthews.
