Thursday
The scene opens up revealing the Imperial Champion sitting in his hotel room, with a newspaper in hand and the belt laid over his shoulder. While sitting there his phone abruptly starts to ring and he lifts it up to look at who it is --- Seth. He shrugs his shoulders, having no clue what Seth could want to speak to him about, but answers.
Joe Everyman:
"Hello?"
Seth Evans:
"Joe! This is Seth!"
Joe Everyman:
"Yes, the caller I.D. told me that. What's up?"
There's silence on the other end for a few seconds as Joe gets blank stare on his face, almost wondering if Seth is even still on the other end. He pulls the phone away to see if the call is still on. It is.
Joe Everyman:
"...hello?"
Pausing for just a moment longer, Seth says two words that Joe doesn't exactly expect.
Seth Evans:
"Suit up."
Before Joe can ask any questions, all you hear is a small tone signaling the end of the phone conversation. He looks at his phone with some bewilderment on his face but looks over at his suitcase and nods his head... knowing... what he has to do. The scene goes out.
Earlier That Day
Inside of the training facility, we see Seth and Alex both inside of the ring. They're both locked up in a grapple which Seth is able to overpower Alex, but Alex swiftly steps to the side and sweeps his leg out from under him --- immediately upon impact with the canvas, Alex brings his hand down which Seth accepts, and Alex helps him back up to his feet.
Alex Jones:
"I need to know what you wanna do... I heard that part of you that wants to drop some weight and qualify for the Cruiserweight Division."
Seth Evans:
"I'm toggling back and forth on the matter."
Alex Jones:
"This is something you need to think about really fast... You can't really afford to be having your mind going all over the place. You need to focus on one thing and that one things needs to be it..."
While both of them are on their feet, Alex turns and goes for a cheap shot just to see if Seth is on guard --- he's not! The shot connects directly to his jaw, and holds his jaw momentarily before attempting to retaliate with a shot of his own but Alex is able to deflect his arm and stands his ground in a defensive stance. After the one retaliation attempt, Seth does stop and just holds his jaw as the shot had come in unexpectedly.
Seth Evans:
"What the hell, man?"
Alex Jones:
"You need to stay on your toes. The Seth Evans of the past would've been fast enough and have a much quicker reaction time --- I wouldn't have been able to land that shot. Maybe this is why you're complaining about Halo all the damn time."
Shaking his head to Alex, Seth continues to hold his jaw and paces around inside of the ring.
Alex Jones:
"What's it going to be?"
Seth Evans:
"I'm going to go to the Cruiserweight Division."
Alex nods his head, agreeing with Seth's decision... before... suddenly rushing forward and catching Seth with The Endgame! Seth is now holding his neck in pain as Alex Jones stands over him, and begins to chuckle at his downed pupil.
Alex Jones:
"That was for beating me a couple weeks back. And you better expect much more of that if you're going to step back into my domain..."
For a second time, Alex extends his hand out and assists Seth with getting back to his feet. Seth's other hand never leaves his neck as he shakes his head at Alex, and a look that tells the world that Alex Jones just may be crazy.
Alex Jones:
"We're gonna have to work on that reaction time, though. I mean... seriously... you've slowed down."
Seth Evans:
"We're gonna step back into the ring with each other one day, and I'm gonna kick your ass, again."
Alex Jones:
"Man, you can't even catch me!"
In an attempt to prove Alex wrong, Seth lunges forward to try to get his hands on Alex who quickly is able to scoot back and backed into the corner. He side steps across the side of the ring to keep his distance from Seth, who is still feeling the effect of The Endgame --- while the two are getting ready to continue their training, Alex's phone suddenly starts going off.
Alex Jones:
"Time out."
Alex slides out of the ring and lifts up his phone.
Alex Jones:
"Hello? ...Umm. Well, I was in the middle of training with Seth. ...Sure. I'll be right there."
Alex hangs up the phone and starts to dig through his bag for a moment before finally addressing Seth.
Alex Jones:
"Training will have to wait... I need to go help Tara out with something."
Seth Evans:
"Alright."
Alex Jones:
"But we found your direction; we're going to get you back in shape and back into the Cruiserweight Division, then we'll wage war... you'll never see that belt because I'm going to be the one holding it for all eternity. Until I decide to go after the Imperial title. You know the drill. Feel free to stick around; we'll continue training tomorrow."
Alex lifts up his bag and slings it over his shoulder before hurrying for the door. Seth Evans is left inside of the ring and he kneels down by one of the corners where he had placed his phone... he lifts it up and dials a number. It rings a few times before the man on the other end answers.
Seth Evans:
"Joe! This is Seth! ...Suit up."
All I really want to know is... What happened to the goals that I set out to accomplish? When I signed my contract with IWF, I was shooting to be the most phenomenal wrestler that this company would ever know --- I was aiming to be in the position where Joe Everyman is. I'm not taking anything away from him, because he's been working his ass off for years! And finally! I'm proud to say that Joe Everyman has reached the top of the mountain... But even with the story not going exactly how I expected it, I didn't expect it to be this far off. I expected to be right underneath him. I expected that we would have been the two to meet at the end of the Heir to the Throne tournament and he just might have beaten me in the finals... The two of us would put on the greatest spectacle that the world has ever seen, just as we always have, and the people would demand to see the rematch!
Joe Everyman!
Seth Evans!
For the fourth time! For the Imperial Championship!
But I couldn't do any of that... I wasn't even able to get on the highway to battle for the belt. The man that I'm stepping into the ring to face this week; he was in that situation. Deathtrain, he may have not been in the final four but he was still part of the Heir to the Throne! Something I couldn't even do.
There's a part of me that feels a certain way about it. There's the other part that... Well... Should I be jealous? Should I be intimidated? It seems that anyone in their right mind would say yes, I should be intimidated by stepping into the ring with someone like Deathtrain --- he may not be the biggest man that I've been in the ring with, but he damn well sure could be the scariest. Your stories exceed you, Deathtrain. I may not have first-hand experience of stepping into the ring with you, but I know what you do; you haunt your opponents. You find the fear that your opponents have and you exploit them --- you use those fears against them.
Do I have any idea what I'm getting myself into?
No.
I really don't.
I'm treading on ground that I've never walked on before, and as I've said, it's not to say that I haven't stepped into the ring with people bigger than you but none that do quite as much as you... Never one that has lived in darkness quite as you have. Do I fear you, though? That's the main question that we need to answer... Do I fear stepping into the ring with someone like you? I'm going to say this very clearly, and I want to make sure that you're paying attention: People feel fear. I... feel... fear. It's part of what makes us extraordinary; a lot of people will walk around the back and say that they don't fear stepping into the ring with anybody. They don't fear anything.
Those people tend to be great.
But those people will never understand the feeling I get when I'm staring my biggest fears in the face, and I'm conquering them! That adrenaline that flows throughout my body that forces me to exert just a little more energy. It forces me to dig just a little deeper because I'm not going to be the man that is buried by my fears.
I fear your power, Deathtrain. I fear your mentality, and what you're truly capable of doing... But I'll be damned before I run away from anything that I fear. That's why I'm going to stand toe-to-toe with you in the middle of that ring, I'm going to look you directly in the eyes... and I'm going to tell you that I'm not going anywhere. There's no part of me that wants to flee. I'm going to stand toe-to-toe with you, just as I did with Lex Sense a couple years back; and I'm going to dig as deep as I possibly can to make sure that I walk out of Sacrifice with my arm raised!
I'm not going down without a fight. You're going to see me fight as if my life is on the line; because it just might be.
There's a saying that we've all become familiar with, Deathtrain... Ever since The Dark Knight was released, this is a saying that people have been using to regain their hope. It's always darkest just before the dawn. The world knows you as probably the darkest human being to walk this planet --- there's no bounds to the extent you're willing to go to inflict pain on your opponents... and make them see the world through your eyes; make them see that darkness prevails. I'm going to conquer this darkness... My dawn is coming. In my world, through my eyes, through eyes of people like Joe Everyman; good guys prevail. Light... prevails...
We're the people that can be battered down, torn, beaten, thrown away... Do what you will with us, because the next week; you're going to see one thing is true. We're still standing. We're still battling for everything we believe in. And when all is said and done --- Joe Everyman is the Imperial Champion. Light prevails.
I'll see you in the ring, Deathtrain. And you're going to find out first-hand just what I'm capable of doing and what I'm willing to do to make sure that I walk out with that win. When that final bell sounds, you're going to feel a fear of your own. You're going to fear my name.
Seth. Evans.
Later That Evening
Joe Everyman is seen just outside a bar... He does, of course, have the Imperial Championship worn around his waist. Around -- a suit! One of the fancier suits. With no sign of Seth Evans being present, Joe walks into the bar and everybody inside turns their head to see the Imperial Champion standing there, and even a couple of ladies are trying to get a little friendly with him on account of the "bling". Joe merely waves them off before taking a seat at the bar.
Joe Everyman:
"I'll have a Samuel Adams."
The bartender nods his head before reaching into the cooler to grab one... He pops it open and hands it over to Joe, who salutes the bartender in gratitude for the beer before taking a quick drink. Joe looks back and forth in the bar to look for Seth, but there's nothing... Until... Walking through the doors to the bar is a man dressed in an entire Spartan suit from the Halo series. The visor reflects back at the people and everyone stares at him as if he were crazy. Hearing some of the commotion, Joe looks up briefly, turning his head back down as if he had saw nothing --- but quickly snaps his head back up and is just in shock of what he's seeing. The Spartan stops right in front of Joe Everyman, and stares a hole directly through him. He lifts his hand to the visor and flips it open revealing it to be none other than Seth Evans.
Seth Evans:
"Goddamn it, Joe! One time! One time! When I tell you to suit up, I would appreciate it if you would SUIT UP!"
Seth sits in the stool next to Joe, and folds his arms on top of the bar, completely disappointed.
Seth Evans:
"Wearing a tie and a suit to a bar. What's wrong with you?"
The bartender approaches and finds it hard to keep a grin off his face.
Bartender:
"What'll it be, spaceman?"
Shocked and angered by the comment the bartender makes, Seth straightens out his body but remains seated.
Seth Evans:
"Spaceman?! SPACEMAN?! It's a Spartan suit! The Spartans were a military project for Earth, and they are based on Earth. They travel through space, sure, but it's to go to Earth-like structures... When do you see them really flying around and having dogfights in space? One time! ONE TIME! For the most part, Halo takes place on... HALO! 'Spaceman'. Hmph."
The bartender takes a deep breath, and speaks sarcastically back at Seth.
Bartender:
"What'll it be, Master Chief?"
Seth Evans:
"That's more like it! I'd like a Heineken light... I'm trying to watch my calories."
Joe tries to speak but just can't. The bartender looks even more amused now than he did when Seth walked in wearing the Spartan suit in the first place.
Joe Everyman:
"Are you... ... ... serious?"
Seth nods his head to Joe before the scene finally goes out.
