The camera comes on to Vivienne standing on the beach in a white sundress with the open weight belt around her waist.
“Hi IWF, how are you doing? I hope you are all doing well. Remember to drink plenty of water, okay? It’s important.”
Viv smiles brightly.
“Another pay per view. Is it just me or is July just flying by? Lineage. Have you seen the card? It’s absolutely amazing how many exciting matches are on this card. We have all three female belts being defended. Alexis versus Vesna. Vesna looks amazing in the ring and Alexis is a Hall of Famer so that will be an exciting match to be sure. We have the three-way match for the Women’s world title match. Pandora against members of The Pack and BFC? That’s going to be wonderful to watch.”
Viv bounces slightly.
“That’s not including the many Heir to the Throne matches on the card. The last of the Pax versus Nighthawk matches. Steve Awesome and Cable. Xavier going against Sandman to hopefully put an end to this madness. Then we have three of the men’s titles being defended. Bob versus the person who kidnapped him. Jayson Matthews versus Angel Blake. Spike versus Harper. Honestly, this whole card is stacked! It’s amazing. I love it!”
Viv tucks a piece of her hair behind her ear.
“Lineage will mark my 155th day as champion. That will make me officially the second longest champion the Open weight or Shieldmaiden belt has had since its inception. One hundred and fifty-five days. That’s incredible. I am so excited to have made it this far. I hope to make it to at least 183 but this? This is wonderful. If I win this next match I will also have the second highest defenses.”
Viv puts her hands to her heart.
“I want to go the whole way. I want to break the record. I want to break Eternity’s record. I want to continue to prove that I deserve to be here and you can be a good person in this company. That goodness does not equal weakness.”
Viv beams.
“But I’m getting ahead of myself. First I have to beat my next opponent. And I don’t think it will be easy. I think it will really be a test of both our skills. I’m honestly kind of hyped for it.”
Vivienne was proud of herself as she walked the plate over to the table with a smile setting it between the kids.
“Hope they turned out alright.” Vivienne grinned as she sat down.
“And they’re vegan?” Isabella asked looking at them.
“Vegan and Kosher….Not that the last bit likely matters to you guys but it’s the only pancake recipe I know.”
“Do they taste good?” Landon asked pilling a couple on his plate.
“I certainly think they do. Take a bite and let me know.” Viv watched the twins both put some on their plates and take a small bit. Landon made a happy sound and Isabella took another bite. Viv smiled to herself as she poured some syrup on her own.
“These are amazing! You should make these every morning!” Landon declared.
“If I had a little more time I would have tried to make them into dinosaur shapes.”
“You can do that?” Isabella asked.
“Sometimes.”
“Every morning. I want these every morning.”
“Told you vegan food could taste good.” Isabella rolled her eyes.
“Glad you both like them.” Viv looked over at James who was sitting next to her, he wasn’t looking at her but was eating the pancake. “You like them too, huh?”
James kept eating them and Vivienne took that as a good sign.
“So since we are letting your Dad sleep in a little bit I was thinking if you guys wanted to we could watch a movie or Tv show until he wakes up.”
“How long are we letting him sleep in?” Isabella asked.
“Not past noon,” Landon suggested.
“I doubt he’d want to sleep in that long.” Viv laughed.
“So do we get to pick what we watch?” Isabella asked.
“I’m pretty open to that.” Viv nodded.
“So like, a rated R movie?” Landon asked with a grin.
“I’m not sure James would like that.” Viv shakes her head.
“…We could watch the crying and singing show?”
“Did you guys watch Steven Universe at your grandparents or are we still on the same episode?”
“Then we’d have to explain the whole plot to them.” Landon made a face.
“It’s our show to watch with you anyways.” Isabella gave her brother a look.
Viv felt a warmth in her chest and the urge to start crying hit her hard but she managed to just smile at them. “You guys are amazing.”
“How many episodes do you think we can binge before Dad wakes up?”
“We won't know until we try!” Isabella grins.
“Hope Freeman-Hall-Kane. Hi.”
Viv waves at the camera.
“Some people might look at the prospect of facing someone from a possible distant future as weird and beyond possible. But honestly I just kind of roll with things. Fought an apparent Saiyan, fought a demon, fought whatever Helena is, it just seems sort of par for the course at this point. Time travel? Makes sense to be honest. I have so many questions—like is this the future Shea was shown-- but I guess that would be a spoiler. Ruins the fun.”
Viv shrugs.
“I honestly see facing you as a really great challenge. I mean, all matches are a challenge but going into the ring against someone I haven’t been able to watch a ton of their previous work? That hasn’t happened in a while. I’m honestly super excited about this match.”
Viv grins.
“I know you’ve only had a few matches since coming to the company. I know this probably seems like a weird situation to be in a title shot so early in your career here. But I got to pick who I was going to face and I wanted to face you. Not because I have some giant ego or anything. I know this is a risk. It’s a risk to face anyone to defend the Open Weight that I could lose it and all the hard work I’ve made with it.”
Viv nods.
“But that’s why I picked you. I remember being new. I remember feeling like I could take on the world if only someone would give me the chance. And I wanted to give you the chance. You’re fresh and new. It’s obvious how driven you are. You have some honest to goodness skill that I can see from just watching from the back. You say you’re untrained but you are marvelous in the ring, it clearly comes easy to you.”
Viv takes a deep breath.
“It’s exciting that we will be facing each other at Lineage. I mean, I have faced members of your family before. Pandora was one of the best matches I’ve ever had. Freya and I fought to a standstill. Astrid is an amazing wrestler. I haven’t fought against Spike but we were on the same side during the Survival of the fittest match. He’s a Hall of Famer and does good work in the ring. You’ve got the family name to get anything you want in this business. It’s impressive.”
Viv pauses for a second.
“But from one kid of a wrestler to another? Remember to breathe. Remember it’s your life. You don’t have to do the same things your family did. You don’t have to keep your life inside the lines just because they did. It’s your life, your career and I know you’ll make them proud regardless of how things turn out. It’s easy to forget that sometimes. It’s easy to feel the weight of all their expectations weighing down on you. Just breathe and do your best. You have to be your own person first. Be who you are meant to, don’t live for them.”
Viv laughs a little nervously.
“I needed that reminder a couple times when I was first starting to work. Maybe you already know that. I don’t know what your future was like. I hope it wasn’t dark. I hope you came from a future where everything was better. But I get the feeling that you wouldn’t pop back to the past if that were true. I’m sorry for whatever hardship you have had to go through. I can’t imagine traveling through time was an easy decision. I assume it was hard to leave your entire life behind without knowing what would happen on the other side. I admit I was never great at quantum physics or is it mechanics? Either way, I think what you are doing is amazingly brave.”
Viv gives the camera a soft look.
“Truly. Honestly. I don’t know if I could do something like that. That takes some real strength.”
Viv touches the Open Weight belt.
“I know you will come at me with everything you’ve got. I want to test myself. I like feeling like a fighting champion. This is one of the hardest working belts in this company and I think I’ve been proving that. If you beat me and you take the belt? I see that as passing the torch to someone who deserves the chance to shine. Not that I’m planning on taking it easy on you. You’ll have to work your butt off for this. If I win? Then I got to have an amazing match with someone who will no doubt blow everyone away with her talent sooner or later.”
Viv makes a heart shape with her hands.
“Hope, I honestly can’t tell you how excited I am to face you. I’ll see you in the ring at Lineage. It will be awesome!”
