The scene opens up on a brisk Friday morning on the outskirts of Washington D.C. in the parking lot of a church. There are several other cars in the lot as well, but no movement. The camera slowly pans across the lot to see Joe Everyman standing next to his Escalade, looking across the lot to the church. Joe looks down at the ground for a second before looking back up towards the building.
Joe Everyman: Alright Joe... you can do this.
Joe takes a long first step as he beings walking across the parking lot. The camera pans out a small amount to see another man walking towards the church with a small binder underneath his arm. Joe lowers his head so the man cannot see his face. He continues to walk towards the doors of the church and opens them, letting them slowly swing shut behind him. The scene then slowly fades to black, but quickly opens back up inside of the Joe Everyman household from a few hours prior. Joe is sitting on the couch in the living room while Melanie, Aurora and their twin boys sit at the kitchen table. Joe stands up and walks into the kitchen, behind the high chairs for the boys. He looks down at Melanie, who smiles up at him.
Joe Everyman: I'm going to go out for a little bit, if that's alright. Will you be able to handle these three?
Melanie Brooks: Yeah, I should be fine. Where are you going?
Joe Everyman: I wanted to get the family a present.
Aurora Everyman: Presents?!
Joe takes a step over to Aurora's chair and kisses her on the top of the head.
Joe Everyman: Yes, a BIG present! And I know it's something we all need, and all want too.
Joe turns around and walks into and across the living room, but before he can reach out to grab the doorknob, two arms wrap around his waist from behind. Joe turns around to see Melanie standing there, arms still around his waist.
Melanie Brooks: Are you really getting us a present?
Joe Everyman: In a way... yeah.
Melanie Brooks: Well, what is it?
Joe Everyman: I don't really want to ruin the surprise... but it's something we all need. I want to keep it a secret for now.
Melanie Brooks: Are you sure? I mean... you know you can tell me anything, no matter what it is. I won't tell the kids, I promise.
Joe Everyman: For now, I'm going to keep it to myself. But I'll be back quickly, ok?
Melanie Brooks: Ok... be safe, ok?
Joe Everyman: I will. I promise.
Melanie then looks up and kisses Joe, but holds onto his head for a second to lengthen the kiss. She releases and Joe instantly smiles.
Joe Everyman: What was that for?
Melanie Brooks: I just felt like kissing you, that's all.
Joe Everyman: Well... keep that up then. I like it.
Joe smiles at Melanie again before turning around and walking out of the front door. Melanie smiles, but it quickly fades. She turns around and walks back into the kitchen, but something catches her eye. She looks down at the coffee table and sees a green piece of paper sitting under a few other envelopes and other papers. She grabs it and looks at it for a moment, before her mouth opens slightly in amazement.
Melanie Brooks: Wow... he's actually going to do it.
She smiles and places the piece of paper back down onto the table. She walks away into the kitchen while the camera pans down to see the paper. It is a meeting paper for an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting for that very morning. Melanie and Aurora can be heard talking in the kitchen as the scene slowly fades to black.
Davey Ortega. It's been a while. We haven't faced off in IWF yet, and we haven't really even seen each other since our tag team was put to an end. It's been a weird road for the two of us. You, still on your revenge tour against Spike Kane, or whatever you want to call it. And me, finally doing what you always said I could in winning a world championship. It took me long enough, eh old buddy?
I know that you are going to be quite angry this week, and that's ok. Just don't try to take it out on me. After all, I won't be able to see it coming! Get it... cause... I'll be wearing a blindfold... cause Roberto is a dick.
I had to go through one of Verona's tests last week, and I think I passed with flying colors. I did everything I could to take those two goons down, and that's what I did. I don't care if I came out with the win or not. There is a point that I get to where the winner's purse isn't even worth it. I make enough money right now to get my family through the days of the week that I can sacrifice a win to get my point across.
And now, this week again, Roberto is abusing his power. Not only will I be forced to be blindfolded, if anybody comes down to the ring to assist me, they get fired. And using logic, that means that someone or something is going to try and take me down. Roberto? Probably not. He's going to be too busy backstage stroking his "ego" to bother coming out. More of Verona's goons? Very possible. Regardless though, I will be ready for anything. Well... anything dark. Again, this blindfold thing is going to suck.
And what sucks the most is, if it came down to it, I know you wouldn't help me, Davey. I know we used to be friends, and I would like to think we still are. But I know that you are on a warpath against Spike right now. And because Spike is my ally, you will try to take me down to send a message to him. Spike has been my friend for a long time, and it really sucks that he won't be able to come down and help me, because I know he would in a heartbeat. But I won't want anybody getting fired because of my actions.
So now, I have to come into this week blind. Not knowing how the match will go. Not knowing who else accepted Verona's bill for the price on my head. But even after all of this bullshit that I have to go through, I can still hold my head high. Sometimes in your careers, you will have to go through some hard times. But no matter how hard the times get, I know that I'm still doing all of this for my family, and no matter how hard Roberto tries, he won't be able to take that away from me.
I know he's trying to pick my career and life apart from the inside, but no matter what, I will still have my family waiting for me. I am personally going through some dark times, but they are always there, supporting me. And no matter how many times I end up being the underdog in my career, they were always there. And now, they are supporting me more than ever.
Being the underdog is what I'm used to. Roberto did the stupidest thing he could have done in making me feel like the underdog again. When I won the Imperial Championship, that was the last thing on my mind. I didn't feel like the underdog for a second. I was on top of the world, above everyone else... and it cost me. That just isn't me. I am the underdog, and that's something I accepted long ago. And even in my match against Davey Ortega, I'm once again the underdog. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
I may be blind for this match, but my heart will be able to guide me through. I will still come out swinging this week, and I will do everything in my power to take you down. And after you, I'm only one step closer to finally getting my hands on Roberto. That's all I want right now. I want to get Verona in the ring and I want to make him hurt. I want to make him feel how I feel now. Unappreciated, underworthed, overworked and below everybody else. He's never been those things in his entire career, and it's about time someone makes him feel that way. This week is going to make or break for me. Either I beat Davey and move on with a little momentum, or I lose and Roberto's goons attack me again. Either way, I'm still the underdog... but, I still wouldn't have it any other way.
