More than ever, Xavier Cross, needed to be at CrossRoads. He lost his assistant, and close friend, Doug, due to betrayal. His former best friend, thought dead, from his dark past, was back, with avengence, he was dealing with the terrible fall out from his media attack on the Senator, and the woman he was falling for, had a knife held to her throat. It was all his fault.
All his fault.
So here the poor bastard is, sitting behind a desk, staring at a computer screen. No knowing if he’s reading something important, or just lost in the stress racing through his head.
Though there was an upside, he got to take his kids to school, Landon and Isabella finally started kindergarten. Xavier made it a point to walk into their class, the best fans were the children. The older kids, and even adults get excited, but to the younger kids. Wrestlers were superheroes. It was a fun break from the current reality. He couldn’t believe the little ones were finally in school.
He thoughts floated to Cari, but he quickly dashed it away. Now wasn’t the time to think about her, now was the time to figure out a way out of this. With Jaqwan running security, he seemed to have a new purpose. Xavier hadn’t seen him drink in ages, as well as not smelling of booze at all.
Xavier leans his head against the desk, lightly tapping his forehead repeatedly. Seemingly in frustration, a light knock on the door. Cross moves his eyes up, seeing Jaqwan standing there, a strange smile on his face.
“I got a message for you. Someone was a little too nervous to talk to you.”
Jaqwan, holding a small note, makes his way to Xavier, dropping the note on the desk. Xavier looks up, a slight grin on his face.
“You’re really a great secretary...You may earn yourself a raise sooner or later.”
“Are you sexually harassing me?”
“Ha….Thanks little bro...how you holding up?”
“A third run-in with my once thought dead older brother? I’m fine, can’t wait for the fourth time when I knock his teeth down his throat”
“...Yeah?...”
Cross looks down at the desk, unknown for words. He was Jaqwan’s older brother, without him, he would have stayed on the streets with Dwayne...But Dwayne was dead, he was dead until four months ago at least…
“You don’t hate me do you?”
Jaqwan looks confused by Xavier’s question.
“I mean...for taking you away from Dwayne...I thought he was dead Jay...I swear…”
Jaqwan walks around the desk, asking Xavier to stand up. Cross looks up, a little nervous as he stands up. Jaqwan proceeds to look him in the eye, before speaking.
“Look. You are my brother, more so than Dwayne ever was. It was just me and him, he tried, but he was focused on him. Ol Lady Thomas raised me, not him. You came back that night, you grapped me, and we got out. You took me with you, because you actually gave two shits. I’ll also bet anything that Dwayne was behind the attack the month after we got back to our parent’s house. So do I hate you for pulling me out of that hell hole? Taking me away from my surrogate family to live with you? No. What I do hate, is that you’d ever question the fact that I’m your brother.”
Xavier looks down, he had been betrayed so much in one lifetime, but his little brothers words rang true.
“So get your shit together, go get you some new clothes, and meet this girl for dinner!”
Jaqwan pats both his hands on Xavier’s shoulders, as life flows through the face of Cross, a brief smile. Jaqwan makes his exit, as Cross returns to his chair. Looking down at the note, a smile wavering on his face.
“How the hell am I supposed to make Sense of this…”
We open back up, to a very nice restaurant. Xavier Cross, wearing a simple button down, he taps his fingers against the table. His mind racing with ideas, what would they talk about. He looked around, realizing the place had a decent crowd.
“oh my god…”
His face overcame with horror, was she breaking up with him in a public spot so he wouldn’t make a scene?!
Wait...no...they weren’t even dating…
But what if she tells him she never wants to see him again.
“Oh….crap…”
Cross resists the urge of slamming his head against the table.
“What if…”
What if she wanted to just skip dinner and go right to dessert...This thought caused Xavier’s face to turn twelve shades of red, and if this was a cartoon, steam would be coming out of his ears.
Shaking himself out of fantasyland, he looks down at his watch, he was there early. Early bird catches the worm right?
Looking up, Xavier’s jaw drops.
All his fault.

*This is where trash talk would go, but as Lex is having computer issues, I don’t want to trash someone who can’t do anything about it. So this week, I will focus on character devo alone, and if that is a knock against me, so be it. But I just don’t feel right trashing an opponent who I know cannot respond in any form*
