~OUT OF BOUNDS~
Queen’s “I Want it All” begins to play as normal as the Fiona’s Corner title card appears on the screen. However, we hear the sound of a record scratching as the image becomes distorted; a red telestrator scribbles the words “OUT OF BOUNDS” as Halestorm’s “Mz. Hyde” begins to blare.
”Welcome to the nightmare in my head
(Oh god!)
Say hello to something scary
The monster in your bed
(Oh god!)
Just give in and you won't be sorry
Welcome to my other side
Hello it's Mz. Hyde…”
The song fades out as we see Fiona McFly sitting behind her desk inside her bedroom at the ranch house in Fredericksburg, Texas. We see a black curtain that covers a laminated placard that’s bee placed on an easel.
FIONA MCFLY:
Good morning, everyone. Welcome to my supplement to the Fiona’s Corner podcast, called “Out of Bounds.” I’ll be using this supplement to focus on things that I couldn’t cover in the podcast itself due to time constraints or technical bugs. I’ll also do some extra commentary on a wide variety of issues from time to time, but I’ll warn those who might become offended...I might rattle some cages here and there.
Not right now, though. We’re gonna keep this on a positive note like the first podcast.
Today, I have some big announcements to share with you all, so let’s begin.
Fiona paused, taking a sip from a bottle of Snapple peach tea.
FIONA:
Before I go any further, I hope you liked my choice of “Mz. Hyde” from Halestorm as my pick for the Out of Bounds theme. Halestorm’s become one of my faourite bands, and this particular tune is on the same album as my wrestling entrance theme, “Love Bites (So Do I).”
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the album in question is called The Strange Case of… and was made in 2012.
Anyways, if I ever make a run on the MMA circuit, “Mz. Hyde” will undoubtedly be my entrance theme. Special shout-out goes to Eddie D., our Creative and Talent Relations director at Imperial, for suggesting I listen to the album. Great material all-around, I must say…
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath before taking another sip from her drink.
FIONA:
A’right, so...after some consultation with Rob and JJ, who’ve provided a lot of helpful input throughout this journey, I am delighted to announce that the All Infamous Wrestling and Martial Arts Academy will be undergoing a name change. This was necessary ‘cos whilst we have a solid core group of in-house team members and trainees, recruiting has been less than what we all had expected. Perhaps the corny dogs Zelda Simpson serves at Club 47 became a little too shriveled up…
(canned laughter)
Haha...so, after massive feedback and support from you, the public, the new name for the school will be the Rising Dragons Wrestling and Martial Arts Academy. Our core, despite the change in moniker, will stay the same -- we will continue to train folks to become the people they’ve set out to be through personal self-defence and life skills that will enable them to impress an employer during a job interview and keep that high-paying dream gig, regardless of where they end up in their lives.
Speaking of, the Rising Dragons Academy will fall under a brand-new parent company -- Sunrise Sports & Entertainment. This new entity will seek out partnerships with other entities in various fields, from sport, television and film, to things like theme parks or family-fun centres. Again, the idea is simple -- jobs, jobs, and jobs. We want to give back everything we’ve been given by building and cultivating a healthy and happy work environment through summer programmes, internships, etc.
Okay, last but certainly not least…
Fiona pulls back the tarp from the placard, revealing a logo featuring a pixelateed image of two wrestlers i a collar-and-elbow tie-up -- a nod reminiscent of what used to appear on the packaging of the earliest games from the 8-bit NES library. The words “RETRO CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING” appear in a stylised blue font based upon 1980s video arcade games. Below the new RCW logo are four others representing the new promotion’s sponsors -- Tesla, Dr. Pepper, Southwest Airlines, and Papa John’s Pizza. A tagline on the top part of the placard simply reads ”For love of the game”.
FIONA:
Retro Championship Wrestling will feature a classic, family-friendly independent charm, but with that ultra-4K high-definition twist you come to expect for professional wrestling. Starting on New Year’s Day 2022 and every Saturday night, RCW will showcase the next generation of stars, male and female, and give them the chance to ply their craft and work their way towards the bigger promotions like IWF. Also, we want to create an environment where people can come in and work in a behind-the-scenes capacity should they choose that track -- from broadcasting and creative to technical production and construction.
Whilst most of RCW’s shows will be run every Saturday night from home base, the 2,500-seat Tesla Sportatorium, on occasion we will hold special “super shows” at larger venues throughout the state of Texas. The New Year’s Day 2022 show, our inaugural programme titled New Dawn, will emanate -- rain, snow, or shine -- from Choctaw Stadium in Arlington, formerly known as Globe Life Park.
I hope each and every one of you are delighted by these announcements. I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for professional wrestling, and I like to think of this project as a way to give back to a line of work that’s given me so much to look forward to. I truly look forward to seeing how this project goes, and I hope you all enjoy the ride.
Thank you all for tuning in -- see you either on another Out of Bounds segment or my next full podcast, which will take place in September!
“Mz. Hyde” plays once again as Fiona tosses her Snapple bottle into a pink recycling bin.
