The scene opens to a small crowd of people and reporters from various news outlets outside of the University of Kentucky Hospital. JC Keeton stands in the front row along with his step mother Kassie and his grandmother Kathrine. A podium is set up in front of the crowd and three police officers stand behind it. The officer in the middle begins to speak.
Officer: Ladies and gentlemen thank you for joining us. I'm Detective Greg Doyle with the Lexington Police Department. As most of you know we received a call on the evening of August 11th for an apparent suicide attempt at a home on Collins Station Road. When we arrived on the scene we found a man suffering from a single gunshot wound. The man was identified as forty four year old Robert Jacob "Jake" Keeton of Lexington. Mr. Keeton was transported here to UK Hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition.
While Detective Doyle is speaking JC notices a young woman in a hoodie standing off to the side but as soon as he makes eye contact she looks away.
Detective Doyle: After a thorough investigation of the scene and interviews with the medical staff who performed the surgery to remove the bullet fragments from Mr. Keeton we have determined that there is no way that this could have been self-inflicted. We are treating this as an attempted murder investigation and we will be working with state and federal authorities to track down and prosecute the purportrator of this horrific and elaborate crime to the fullest extent of the law. At this time there are no clear suspects but the family has been cooperative and aware from the beginning that we were treating it as a criminal investigation we were just waiting on the forensic report to make it public. We ask that you respect the privacy of this family during our ongoing investigation and want to thank Katherine, Kassie, and Jonathan for all their help.
As the police officers step away from the podium and the crowd starts to disperse Katherine hugs JC.
Katherine Keeton: I'm so relieved we can stop telling people that your father tried to kill himself, I knew better than that.
JC Keeton: Me too Grandma. If you'll excuse me I think u saw an old friend in the crowd.
As soon as she lets him go JC rushes towards where he saw the young woman earlier but she's gone. He turns to a man who was standing near where he thought he saw her.
JC Keeton: Excuse me sir, did you see an Asian girl standing here around my age wearing a hoodie?
Man: Nope I never saw anyone fitting that description, sorry.
JC Keeton: That's ok, I'm sure it wasn't who I thought it was anyway. Sorry to bother you.
The man gives a kind nod and JC walks back towards where his family stands, letting out a slight mumble to himself as the scene fades.
JC Keeton: I'm losing my fucking mind…
