Tytus Rost sat on the edge of his hotel bed, the soft light of the Osaka morning filtering through the curtains. He held his phone tightly, waiting for Katya to answer. Despite the calm facade he tried to maintain, his mind was a whirlpool of thoughts and concerns. The tournament, the meeting with Abigail and Eternity, and the troubles back home with Berrick—everything weighed heavily on him.
Finally, the familiar sound of Katya's voice brought a smile to his face. "Privet, moy dorogoy," she greeted warmly.
"Privet, Katya," Tytus replied, his tone softening. "How are you and the children?"
"We are good, Tytus. The children miss you, and so do I," Katya said, her voice filled with love and warmth. "They loved the opportunity to see you, they’ve missed you so much. How are you doing? How is Japan?"
"Japan is... different. Beautiful, but different," Tytus said. He took a deep breath, preparing to discuss the matter that had been on his mind. "Katya, I have a question. I am supposed to meet with Abigail and Eternity soon, but I feel... uncertain. Is it appropriate to meet them without you present?"
Katya laughed softly on the other end of the line. "Tytus, you are such a proper gentleman. You worry too much. It is perfectly fine for you to meet them. Besides, they are in a relationship with each other. There is nothing inappropriate about it."
Tytus was taken aback. "They are in a relationship? I did not know that."
"Yes, they are. I think it is wonderful that they have each other, just as we have each other," Katya said, her tone reassuring. "You can trust them, Tytus. Go to your meeting and see how things go. You might find that you can work well together once you have more of an understanding of your shared strengths, yes?"
Tytus nodded, feeling a sense of relief. "Thank you, Katya. You always know what to say."
"Of course, I do," she teased. "Now, tell me about this meeting. I am assuming that it is not to take in the sights while you’re abroad. What is it about?"
Tytus shifted on the bed, glancing out the window at the bustling city below. "We are supposed to discuss our strategy for the tournament. We were unsuccessful against Pax and Charlotte previously and this week Abigail and I will be facing off against this Black Widow woman and her significant other Madjinn. I need to find common ground with Abigail, but I have never worked closely with a female wrestler before. There is some trepidation here on my behalf."
Katya's voice was gentle and encouraging. "You are strong, Tytus. You will find a way to connect with Abigail. Just be yourself and be open to working together. She might surprise you."
"I hope so," Tytus said. "I am looking forward to this match, especially because of my failures against Pax. The animosity between us has been growing, and I relished the chance to crack his head like a walnut, but that was not in the cards as I found."
Katya chuckled. "You always did enjoy a good challenge. But you need to put all of that in the past and focus only on what is in front of you, my love. What about this Madjinn? Tell me about him."
Tytus's expression darkened slightly. "Madjinn is a capable wrestler. I have faced him before, and I know what he can do in the ring if given the chance. But as a person, he frustrates me. Everything about him is frustrating, Katya. He is a man-child who wants everyone’s attention like some little puppy. He craves the spotlight but balks when others push back. He plays both the role of the villain and the victim. In his mind he wants the love and adoration, and in the absence of that the hatred and loathing. He pretends to bask in the hatred, but, Katya, I know it eats away at his fragile ego when he has to invent that hatred in others. To try and dig beneath the skin of those around him in an attempt to elicit some kind of response. But it kills him to know that we are just apathetic towards him - that people do not care about him. That after all his big words, we are indifferent.
It is his partner for whom I actually feel pity for. I do not know what this Madjinn did, but he has a spell over the girl. I will have to trust that Abigail will be strong enough to win that battle so that I can focus only on the boy."
Katya listened intently, her voice calm and measured. "It sounds like you have a clear understanding of who he is. Use that to your advantage. Do not let his antics distract you from your goal."
"I will not," Tytus said firmly. "I have no intention of holding back. If given the opportunity, I will crush both his dreams and his windpipe."
Katya's tone turned more serious. "Tytus, be careful. I know you are strong, but do not let your anger cloud your judgment. Stay focused on the task at hand."
"I will, Katya," Tytus promised. "There is no room for anger here, not for a man-child such as this. No, he is not deserving of my anger. Thank you, my love. Thank you for your support."
"Always, Tytus. I love you," she said softly.
"I love you too," Tytus replied, his heart feeling lighter.
As he ended the call, Tytus felt a renewed sense of determination. Katya's words had given him the clarity he needed. He knew that he could trust Abigail and Eternity and that together, they could form a formidable team. The upcoming match against Charlotte and Madjinn would be a true test, but he was ready for the challenge.
The hotel restaurant, Tomoe, was the chosen venue for the meeting. Tytus walked in, his eyes scanning the room until he spotted Abigail and Eternity sitting at a table. He approached them, his expression serious but open.
"Privet, moya dorogaya Ebigeyl," Tytus greeted, his deep voice resonating.
After their successful meeting, Tytus found feeling much better than he had going into it. Reflecting on the conversation, he found that Abigail and Eternity were not what he had expected, and that was a good thing. He felt a sense of camaraderie building, a genuine foundation for their partnership in the tournament. The thought of working with them gave him hope for what lay ahead.
Back in his hotel room, Tytus dialed Berrick's number. He needed to check on the situation at the farm and make sure everything was under control. The phone rang a few times before Berrick answered, his voice sounding tired but resilient.
"At some point, I’m going to have to teach you how time zones work, big guy. Anyway, how is Japan?" Berrick asked.
"Japan is good, Berrick. How are things at the farm?" Tytus asked, his concern evident.
"Manageable," Berrick replied, a hint of weariness in his tone. "We have had a few more incidents, but nothing I cannot handle."
Tytus frowned. "What kind of incidents?"
"Just some stupid stuff - rocks through windows, trying to scare the chickens. Basic teenager shit." Berrick said, trying to downplay the situation.
Tytus sighed, knowing Berrick was not giving him the full picture. "Remember, tovarich, Katya offered that she and the children go back to help. Do you think it would make a difference?"
There was a long pause on the other end of the line before Berrick spoke again, his voice more serious. "Tytus, I appreciate the offer, but things might be more complicated than I have let on. There is something you need to know."
Before Berrick could continue, there was a loud crash in the background, followed by muffled shouting. "Berrick, what is happening?" Tytus demanded, his voice rising with urgency.
"Oh come on … listen, big guy, I have to go," Berrick said hurriedly. "I will call you back later. Just... stay safe, Tytus." The line went dead, leaving Tytus staring at his phone, his mind racing with worry and unanswered questions.
The uncertainty gnawed at him, but he knew he had to stay focused. The tournament was looming, and he needed to be at his best. With Abigail and Eternity by his side, he felt a renewed sense of purpose. Together, they would face whatever challenges came their way, and Tytus was determined to come out on top.
