Act 1: An Interview and a history lesson

"History is a relentless master. It has no present, only the past rushing into the future. To try to hold fast is to be swept aside."
John F. Kennedy
The scene opens on the lower portion of Manhattan. The traffic flowed through the crowded streets moving this way and that while other people moved along the crowded sidewalk out shopping for the upcoming holiday's. Thanksgiving was just a week away and soon the streets would be crowded with people straining their necks to look at the giant balloons that would be pulled down the streets among the marching bands, and floats. The camera comes to what appears to be a section of the city that was in vast repair. A Museum was under construction and a monument had been erected in front of it. We see Avery standing in front of it, with her head lowered as if in prayer. Her mind flashes back to that fateful day where a small section of the city was nearly destroyed...
The scene soon changes to a beautiful sunny day sometime in the summer. A gentle breeze blew through the large crowd that had gathered in front of the museum that was in one piece. Professors and men of note sat on the stage as a strange creature sat on the stage in a large cage. This was the Tasmanian Tiger that they had found. Teddy was being honored for his discoveries that they had made along the way. This truly was a proud day for them all. Franklin Cooke sits on the stage, and the crowd claps loudly as the big man moves toward the podium.
Teddy: Thank you for the warm welcome. I'm here today to give the world something that everyone thought was extinct. I've been called a crackpot, insane, and even had my theories called trivial. But here I stand today with proof of something that they said was insane. I give you the Tasmanian...
With that Franklin's head explodes and he slumps over as the crowd begins to scream and starts to run around as large ships start to swarm over head. Troops drop from the ships, as people scream in terror. Shots ring out as people start to fall to the ground. Avery looks around and heads for Teddy on the stage to try and help him, but is stopped by a rather large man. A Chinese girl steps in beside Avery.
Avery: Do you think you can handle this Lei Mai?
Lei Mai: I can if you can.
The big man laughs, as he strikes his hands on his pants. They are set ablaze and Avery and Lei Mai look at each other before they start the fight. The big man with hand of flame grabs Avery and tosses her but she manages to gain her footing and slides a good distance away, as Lei Mai lands a solid punch on him. Above them Sasha and Dick fight it out. She was the reason that Teddy's girlfriend Wendy was now in the hands of Viper. She had betrayed them all. She soon sores off of the rooftop and into the sky, as the sound of something familiar fills the area. Avery looks up and sees reflector plates on the ships that floated above them, and then the bright light.
Avery: Lei Mai, come on! This isn't going to end the way we want it to.
Lei Mai: What about the others?
Avery: They'll be fine. They'll find a way out.
The two of them start down the street as the giant laser comes out of nowhere. Dick soon reaches them with an injured man dressed in a strange looking snake outfit on his back. They head for the sewer and close the man hole back over them. The laser moves over head causing the water in the sewer to start to steam up. They move a little ways down the sewer tunnel only to run into another one of Viper's men.
Dick: Really? You want to do this right now? One of your own is nearly dead, and you want to fight right now?
Sidewinder: He's a traitor now and he deserves to die. It's time to end this.
Avery and Lei Mai get to their feet ready to face the man in the cowboy hat and strange looking outfit, as the sound of the laser could be heard threatening to come through the ground...
Voice: Miss McCullen? Miss McCulluen?
Avery snaps from her thoughts, as she looks around. She sees Willy Carter standing behind her. Avery's heart pounded as she leans against the fence, and smiles softly.
Avery: I'm sorry, I didn't hear you... I was uh...
Willy Carter: It's fine... Are you all right?
Avery: I'm fine. Just thinking back to a stranger time that's all.
He looks at her with a soft smile as she starts to walk ahead of him.
Avery: Are you coming or not? You're here for an interview are you not?
Willy Carter: I am, but why did you ask me to meet you here?
Avery: My father's shop is a bit loud, and I would rather not have people nosing in where they don't belong. Now I know you are full of questions so lets begin shall we?
Willy shakes his head as they stop in front of what use to be a fountain on the museum grounds.
Willy Carter: I know that last week you had a chance to walk away with a win, but Crystal, Eternity, and River turned the tables and started a beat down on Ana and Amber. Are you out for revenge against any of them?
Avery: I get to face River and Crystal this week, and yes they will be my main focus this time around. I'm not sure what's going to happen when I do get into that ring. I was really taken back with what happened, but I shouldn't have been surprised really.
Willy Carter: What happened surprised everyone I think. Let's start with Crystal since you have the most history with her.
Avery: Crystal is a thorn in my side, and has been since I faced her the first time around. I managed to win one match against her and then after that I slid down instead of going up the scale. This time around I'm not going to let her get the upper hand, nor will I underestimate her. If I could I would beat her into nothingness, but of course there are rules, and I can't do something like that. But God help her if she was ever in my territory on her own. She wouldn't be able to walk again, or at least the same way again. In the middle of that ring though, I will do everything that I can to stop her, and make sure that she thinks twice about facing me again. She did something stupid last week, and now she and River are going to pay for that mistake, and give me that next win that I've been after for so long.
Willy Carter: Wow those are some harsh words.
Avery: I'm not done with her yet. She thinks that she can bully her way through this match, but she's wrong about that. I'm willing to do whatever it takes, but I don't know how far she will go. Crystal talks a big game but when it comes to push and shove, she likes to cheat her way out of things, of to walk away like she did last week. But this time around, she's not going to have a chance to.
Avery turns from him as she watches one of the steel beams being lifted to what appears to be one of the higher floors of the new museum.
Willy Carter: Is something wrong Miss McCullen?
Avery sighs as she looks over her shoulder slightly.
Avery: It's been almost 4 months to the day that all of that disappeared. It's hard to see how something like that could fall in just a matter of moments.
Willy Carter: So you were there? Wow. I heard about it, but I didn't see what happened.
Avery: It was hard to see the creature that we saved end up as nothing but dust. That and a woman that I would have considered a sister if she hadn't betrayed us...
Willy Carter: I think I get it now... When Crystal, River and Eternity turned on you, all those memories came back didn't they?
Avery: Yes. But that is something that I can't focus on right now. I mean I traveled the world and trust me it wasn't easy. I watched friends get hurt, and almost die. I mean I almost bit the dust myself...
Will Carter: River has yet to say anything, but I know that you more than have words for her.
Avery: What else can I say? River did the same thing that Crystal did and left the ring like a scared little dog with her tail between her legs. They couldn't even finish the match before they decided to bash Amber's head in... Of course I wanted to do that to and had a chance to before they ended the match. River is going to get what's coming to her all in good time. I'm going to make sure she hits that mat more then once, and hopefully get the pin on her. I don't think I've ever held a grudge like this before to tell you the truth. The last time I felt like this is when Viper had my father and attacked my family. They got a rude awakening, and that is what River is going to get. I'm not going to back down from this fight, no matter what they throw at me I will stand and fight against her.
Willy Carter watches as she begins to pace a little bit, and moves down the sidewalk back toward the memorial. He follows after her, and finds her with a hand upon the stone.
Willy Carter: Do you need a few minutes?
Avery: No... I'm fine. It's just hard to see this. I mean we didn't lose anyone that day really except for Franklin. He had learned a lesson just a week before and had started to change his ways. It was a shame to see him brought down like that. A single shot from the sniper rifle that Sasha carried. I knew there was something about her that I didn't like.
Willy Carter: That must have been hard to see that. I mean you trusted the woman.
Avery: I did... But that's all in the past. Do you have any more questions?
Willy Carter: Actually I do. Lust released a promo this morning, and I was wondering if you saw it yet?
Avery: I did, and I'm not some Goddamn little wee man. I know my folklore and they can mess you up really bad if you're not careful. But to be seen as one, was not funny in the least. I have no idea what is wrong with that bitch. I mean I know she's part of some kind of samurai family, but that doesn't mean she needs to be fucked up in the head. When I'm done with her she'll see the world like everyone else. She's not right in the head, but I'll make sure she is by the time I'm done with her. I've faced crazed ninja's and people dressed in snake suits so I think I can handle her if nothing else. Lust can bring whoever she wants to the ring but it won't matter in the end.
Willy Carter: They're part of something called Legion, whatever that means.
Avery shakes her head and sighs. She knew what it meant and that was never a good thing from what she remembered.
Avery: It means that they have the same thoughts, and all know what the other is thinking. They part of the same body in a way. But that's not going to stop me from taking Lust down. I'm not afraid of her or anyone else for that matter. When I step into that ring on Sunday night I will bring everything that I have to win this match. I'm not going to let anyone stop me from gaining that next win and climb up another rung on the ladder to get me to the top. They can try to bring me down but it's not going to stop me.
Willy Carter: You're determined to win this match aren't you?
Avery: I am and I will win this match, no matter what it takes. Now if that's everything...
Willy Carter: It is. Thank you for taking the time to speak with me this afternoon Miss McCullen.
Avery: No problem. Now if you excuse me I have to meet someone shortly.
With that Avery walks off and leaves Willy watching after her. As he watches her a young Chinese woman approached her. The two of them hug, and then walk off as the scene fades to black.
Teddy: Thank you for the warm welcome. I'm here today to give the world something that everyone thought was extinct. I've been called a crackpot, insane, and even had my theories called trivial. But here I stand today with proof of something that they said was insane. I give you the Tasmanian...
