..::PROLOGUE::..
I guess Amber Richards was right after all.
I did end up on her list, but not the way she might have imagined. I came, I saw, I conquered. And I became the first name to defeat her bodyguard. She fell like a redwood tree the moment she received that superkick, just how I drew it up. If Christine fell in a forest and no one was around to hear her, does she still make a sound?
Something to think about.
And Amber said I wasn't good enough to be in the ring with her bodyguard. I wonder if she has a different opinion of me now? Seeing is believing, though I'm almost sure she didn't like what she saw. It must have been tough for her to stomach, but if there is anything we can take away from this past Monday, I'm glad I was able to help Christine along with her therapy.
I think she's improving, don't you?
Funny Amber also said I didn't have a future. Well, as it turned out, her forecast was as reliable as a Magic 8 Ball and after this it does leave me to wonder what else could she have been wrong about in her life. She had better be right as rain in her next title defense, or else we could be seeing a new Diamonds Champion at Danger Zone.
Because nothing would break my heart than seeing Little Miss Goddess brought back down to Earth again.

Thursday, February 20, 2014 β 3 days until Danger Zone
Mercedes's Apartment
Queens, New York
1 PM Local Time
Jorge is watching an animal documentary on television. Mercedes walks in, drinking a can of Pepsi.
.::NARRATOR::..
Welcome back to 'When Animals Attack β Nature's Fight Club.β Before the break, a hare finds itself in immediate danger when encountering four cheetahs in search of lunch...
.::JORGE::..
Hey Merce. You made it. Just about to start.
..::MERCEDES::..
Not this again. I don't get these documentaries at all. People record these footage of wild animals, knowing full well what they're getting themselves into. I remember seeing one idiot got gored once while filming a stampede. And then doing it in a subtropical climate? That's suicide.
.::JORGE::..
[whispering]
Shhhh! Here comes the good part.
The unknown depths of the plains are shown here. As we cut to a quieter scene, the camera cuts to the reactions of the pursuers in turn, each licking their lips slightly as the hare rests on its hind legs. A heartbeat or two passes. And then the chase begins.
..::MERCEDES::..
This should be good.
Mercedes plops down on the sofa, then leans forward seemingly taking interest.
.::NARRATOR::..
The chase is on. This feisty hare refuses to give up, but as it is about to find out, very few animals can escape a pack of hungry cheetahs...
.::JORGE::..
[laughing at the TV show]
The little guy has no chance.
..::MERCEDES::..
I can't watch.
[covering her face, but then looking through her fingers.]
The cheetah and hare kick up clouds of dust in their high speed chase. Try as it might, the hare can't seem to shake its pursuers as they have it locked on target. Each cheetah takes turns chasing it, and it's not before long before one of them pounces on it first. The dust settles as the victor dangles its prize. The other three cheetahs aren't close behind as they walk away.
.::NARRATOR::..
Game. Set. Match. The contest was over in minutes, but the winner was no less in doubt...
.::JORGE::..
Well, did I tell you or did I tell you?
..::MERCEDES::..
Remember the days when all a rabbit had to worry about was racing a tortoise?

It's a jungle out there.
The Diamonds Division in IWF.
Each and every week, it's about survival of the fittest. Which Diamond is able to impress Management so they can get that contendership match or title shot? Who is able to be the consistent threat, the person everyone is talking about week in and week out. Well, there is several Diamonds who are pretty much above the food chain. There's the champ, obviously. Ana Valentine is not too far behind. Eternity is getting there.
And then there's everyone else who falls somewhere in the hierarchy.
I guess this match for the now vacant Ruby Championship is for the rest of us. The three opponents I'm supposed to face at Danger Zone? There is history between us. Desiree St. James. Jennifer Famularo. Avery McCullen. History. And Sunday, one of us will be making history as the new champion.
The others will be a footnote.
I don't like being a footnote.
Desiree. Oh, Desiree. What is it going to be today, hmm? How are you going to analyze us this time, pray tell? And if you're going to go with your βwho's on firstβ routine with Ayla, please save it. No one wants to hear that. I sure don't. I get enough out of her on her own. When I look at the two of you, when I'm forced to listen to the two of you, I can't help but imagine you both dressed up in orange little jumpsuits and afro blue hair, and speaking in rhymes. It's unnerving, but that how see you two.
I wouldn't be surprised if you finished each other sentences. That wouldn't surprise me in the least.
Jennifer Famularo...the last time I saw you...I was hoping it would be the last time I saw you. Unfortunately, that isn't the case here now, is it? Anyway, I guess the saying is true: the more things change, the more they stay the same. Much like Desiree, you're like a box of chocolate - I never know what I'm gonna get. First you were a CEO of a multi-billion dollar company, then you put on your best Zelda Knite impression with the whole geek goddess phase, because that's what it was, and you grew out of it, then you made a fool of yourself with your tweets and your cosplay shenanigans...
Yeah, i don't know what you trying to do there, but that's exactly why no one takes you seriously. And the question has to be asked: "Will the real Jenny Famularo, please stand up?" I hope I find my answer Sunday, Jenny. I hope I get the real Jennifer Famularo or Williams or whatever last name you want to use, that's fine. You want to bring up our history and proclaim your dominance over me, that's fine. But it's a new day, Jenny. A new company. Everyone starts with a clean slate.
And I'm looking forward to start with a victory over you, if it comes to that.
I don't if anyone else realizes this, but this match isn't going to prove anything, except that whoever wins is nothing more but a paper champion, since none of us was able to win the title off the former champion. Ana Valentine pretty much gave up the Ruby Championship willingly in order for this match to happen, otherwise I don't think none of us would make it on the card.
Something I think you may have forgotten, Avery.
Now, if you want to compare victories and look past me as a threat, by all means, sweetheart, continue. Because now you've put yourself in a bind that I don't think you'll escape from. Tell you what, Avery, if you win Sunday, congratulations. But if you don't, well, you can't say I didn't warn you. I know how good you are. The few matches I've seen of you proves it. Even last week, you held your own. But tonight, sweetheart, you and I will be seeing each other again, and despite what anyone else tells you, I'm not enhancement talent, far from it.
It's necessary to take risks in order to achieve something. So, I'll take this dare, because I've got nothing to fear from you. I'll take this match with you, because, in the end, he who dares, wins. Now, barring the gender restricts, I think it makes a pretty sound statement, don't you?
So, I will take your advice. I'm walking away from this match...
Walking away as the new Ruby Champion.

..::EPILOGUE::..
Sunday, February 23, 2014 β Night of Danger Zone
Las Vegas, Nevada
9:45 PM Local Time
βO brave new world that has such people in it."
The camera shows a Porsche 911 driving through the streets of Las Vegas. Along the way we see various people working and living their lives. The car drives past buildings, suburbs, a playground, a lake, and more. The voice over continues.
"This isn't the Steel City. This isn't the Windy City. This isn't the Emerald City, the Gem City, or even the Magic City."
A series of quick cuts showing the outside exterior of Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino at night, a up-close shot of a monitor from a virtual slot machine, a crowd full of people dancing to music inside Studio 54, and a newlywed couple renewing their vows at a wedding chapel as an Elvis impersonator looks on.
"This is Sin City. Las Vegas, Nevada.
"To those who live here, it's home. To those who visit, it's a paradise. For me, though?
We cut to inside the moving car. Mercedes Vargas is in the passenger side listlessly turning the pages of a magazine as Jorge, her brother, is behind the wheel while bobbing his head to the car radio.
"It's an almost common occurrence. I've been here many times, but for some reason, I never get tired of it".
Illuminated skyscrapers, neon signs, and various hotels line every street as Mercedes looks out at tourist enjoying the night.
"After all, whatβs not to like about being in Vegas? I'm going to need more than Lady Luck on my side tonight if I'm going to win the Ruby Championship.
"And I'm hoping that what happens here doesn't stay here....
"I want my victory witnessed in front of the entire world."
