Imperial Wrestling Federation… to almost everyone that has signed their name on the contract, they saw it as a new beginning. A chance for them to turn their career from being mediocre to spectacular! There’s no bar for any of us to have to reach --- instead, we had the opportunity to set it. Do you know what was racing through my mind when I signed my contract? The chance to be the top shot… the chance to become the Steve Awesome of IWF. I would be above the belt. I’ve done anything but become the star that would lead this company to stardom. Three weeks into the opening of this company, and I’ve had two matches; two losses.
On top of every opportunity that everybody had at the beginning of IWF… Every new week brings another new opportunity. This week, my opportunity is to go from laughing stock, to Heavyweight Champion!
I’m not the only one with this opportunity, though… Will Washington selected five of us to compete.
People have no idea how proud I am that Will Washington gave me this opportunity, even when I have shown him nothing to prove I deserve it. There’s not much that I can say to you, Will, but I will make it very clear to you; I’m not going to let you down. I’m going to take the Heavyweight Championship this Sunday, and I’m going to set the bar as high as possible as the very first run.
My mind had a lot that it had to go on… There was no doubt, living the double life of being a professional wrestler and a professional gamer truly did take its toll. This week was going to be the first pay-per-view of IWF, Bloody Assizes, and I was going to be fighting against four other competitors for a chance to not only win the Heavyweight Championship. It’s a chance for us to be the very first Heavyweight Champion. In three more weeks was also going to be the next AGL event which my team was going to.
While counting the time away, I felt the fingertips of my fiancée gliding across my shoulder and instantly lifted my head to see her. The weekend leading up to Bloody Assizes, she finally convinced me to relax with a few days at the beach… Between training for the Halo tournament, and the championship scramble, there was hardly any time for relaxing.
”Are you relaxing?”
Trying to hide it from her, I force a smile and nod my head. She could see straight through it.
”You know that you’ve been close to gold before --- you’re going to get there.”
”I know. It’s just hard to believe that it’s been as long as it has been since I’ve worn a championship around my waist… I just hope that this Sunday, I can make it change. I can walk out with the Heavyweight Championship around my waist.”
The thought of wearing the belt out of Bloody Assizes brought a smile to my face. Even if it would lose my opportunity to become the very first Imperial Champion --- it was a sacrifice, but it was something that I could live with.
”And then… your Halo tournament?”
”I’m not worried about that half as much as I am about the Heavyweight Championship. I know that my team is more than capable of going undefeated.”
”So you’re going to be the first professional wrestler to carry the Heavyweight Championship, and be part of the number one team on Halo?”
Chuckling at the comment, I look ahead at the ocean ahead of me.
”When you put it like that, it sounds a lot more grand.”
She carefully sits next to me, and I put my arm around the love of my life --- the only one that I love more than both wrestling and gaming, combined. Smiling genuinely, we watch the sunset.
As I’ve said, I’m not the only one with this opportunity… Let’s first decide; who’s who? Who’s who that matters in the Championship Scramble? Who has the best chance to take the victory and the championship?
The first person that comes to mind is Jake Conway. Better known as “The Ace”. Regardless of what my personal opinion of you is, there’s no denying that you could very well be the strongest player stepping into this match… How many years have you been in this industry? Ten years? But the problem with you only being a ten year veteran, is that you’re a late bloomer. Starting late hasn’t stopped you from accomplishing many of the things you have, and it’s not stopping you from stepping forward into the future.
I hate to say it like this, but do you really believe you still have what it takes to step into the ring with four young, hungry wrestlers? You’re almost forty years old! Facing off against people that are in their mid to young twenties… You call yourself the “Apex Evolution” but there’s something about evolution --- it leaves people in the dust. It leaves people like you, in the dust. Evolution is Andrew Jacobsen, evolution is Xavier Cross, evolution is Seth Evans --- and to a lesser degree, evolution is Mike Laszlo.
Evolution has passed Jake “The Ace” Conway. This Sunday will prove it.
The next person on my list is Mike Laszlo. Man, I can’t even begin to tell you how much you’ve annoyed me right out of the gate of IWF! The doors have almost literally just opened --- and you’ve already made enemies out of Infamous? Myself? Possibly even Andrew?! When the entire locker room is looking across at you, Mike, and wanting to rip your head off --- you’re going to start feeling the regret for everything you’ve said that has just pissed us off.
You went a step further with me, though. You decided to pin a certain blame on me for your decline at New Championship Wrestling… You blamed me for hanging on “just long enough” for Alex Jones to steal something from you. I’m no fan of Alex Jones, but what exactly did he steal from you? The World Championship? You mean the belt that you fought for not once? Not twice? But three times?! Three times that you’ve marched down to that ring to face, one, Roberto Verona, and three times that you were sent out of the ring with nothing but another loss tacked on…
Three months of you fighting for a championship that you had no business going after in the first place, and eliminating the opportunity for two others to have the chance that you failed. Not because you deserved it, but because you begged for it.
I could have had a chance at fighting for the World Championship if you would have just admitted defeat and let someone else have that chance! If anything, I should be blaming you for me never receiving a shot at the belt that I was so close to getting almost one year before you.
In fact…
Let me add that to my list of things that I don’t like about you!
You see, Mike, I just don’t like you. That was not my first impression of you; my first impression of you was that you were talented, young, and ambitious --- but then you spit on my face. You threw the first punch at me. Ask anybody in the back, and they’re going to tell you that I don’t take kindly to that --- you spit on me, I spit and piss on you. Here’s the cold, hard definition of Mike Laszlo: An overrated prick that doesn’t know how to take no as an answer, and after constant failures, looks for every single excuse in the book to try and justify his loss.
Roberto Verona defeated you… It was because someone interfered?
Roberto grants you a rematch, and you lose, again. It was because the referee counted a tad bit faster than he’s supposed to.
Roberto grants you a third match, and you lose… It’s because that fan in the front row was holding a laser pen and kept flashing it in your eyes.
Wait, wait! We’re not done! You step into the ring to face members of Infamous, and then Infamous because you won’t stop running your mouth; and what’s your excuse? You were thinking about how you left your stove on and that gave you a perfect excuse to leave your partner to fend for himself, and then you can pin all of the blame on him for what was a team effort.
How many more excuses are you going to feed us, Mike? How many times are we going to have to hear about how you were robbed, or how it wasn’t your fault that your partner got pinned, or that somebody else got pinned in what could be a triple threat or fatal four-way match? Believe it or not, but every single wrestler that’s sitting backstage knows the rules to their match before they step foot in the ring. Rob Diamond knows that if Spike Kane gets pinned or taps out, he loses. Spike is not the only one who loses; Rob loses. Spike Kane, Jake Keeton, and Stephen Kingsley all knew that stepping into the ring for a triple threat match meant that if Jake Keeton pinned Stephen Kingsley, Spike Kane also lost! There were no excuses from him.
I made no excuses with any of my losses. Road To The Gold, finals… versus Xander Famularo. He beat me. The very first week of IWF, Constantine won the match that we were in. My match against you and Xavier Cross, both Andrew and I tapped out --- there are no excuses for what happened.
Redemption, however, is another story.
Mike; I’ve said it already… I’m saying it again. I don’t like you. I want to win, I need to win! But I’ll still be happy at the very end of it if I know that you aren’t walking away with the belt…
UMADBRO?
I sure hope so.
