I could not help but feel a bit of shame in losing to Malaki this past week… Not in who he was, because he was my friend, but shame for myself—it felt as if I was losing steam. Ever since Tara showed where her allegiance truly lied. I promised that I was going to bring an end to the Age of X; I could not let my steam evaporate… I had to regain it. I had to be better than I have been. Danger Zone is this week, and I had another opportunity to step into the ring with Angel—this time… nothing was going to stop this match. Nothing was going to stop us from inflicting as much pain as we could on each other. I only had one thought on my mind: inflict more damage on him than he could on me.
I lifted my hand to my forehead where the scar was left from what Angel ordered the Brothers Black to do—I felt my face cringe as I felt my blood boiling inside of me, filling myself with anger and rage… I kept my composure, though, and tried to think more ahead rather than what happened behind me. I lifted my voice to speak to Angel, knowing that he was going to be listening.
“From the very first day that I set my sights on you, Angel; people have been telling me that I don’t know what I’m getting myself into… but it’s always the same thing from you, and even from Tara!
‘You don’t understand.’
‘You have seen nothing.’
‘He is the greatest wrestler to ever step foot in the ring, and you should fear stepping into the ring with him!’
You have been telling me this since day one… And this is what I have been saying to you from that same day, on: I do not care! I swore that I was going to bring an end to the Age of X… I swore that I was going to rid the IWF of this plague that is known as the Age of X. Whether I have Tara supporting me or standing against me to save the very man that broke her—I will continue to stand against you. And I will keep coming back until I make good on my promise.”
I bring my hands down to the apron of the ring and push myself off, letting my feet lightly come to the ground surface. I take a few steps forward and bring my hands in front of me interlocking my fingers together while my eyes remain focused on the camera in front of me.
“Do you want me to tell you how many times that I have been told that I was nothing? Let’s see… day one, Ashe Corvin who is now my friend and knows what I am capable of doing… Dru Diamond, who was not fond of me in the least… Rob Diamond, who almost ended my career because of disappointment after disappointment—but all he did was teach me how to endure. Lex Sense… Xander Famularo… almost every person that I have encountered in my career has said that I will be nothing!
They have said that I am nothing!
But do you want to know the only thing that matters to me?
I am still standing! I am still marching down to that ring and doing what these people want me to do because they know what I am capable of doing.
YOU know what I am capable of doing!
After that stunt you pulled at Metamorphosis, there is only one thing that you need to know is racing through my mind… Making you pay. Having my revenge for what you did! I know there’s a lot of people in this company that hate you, and some of the shady tactics that you choose to use.
But there was something about Tara that made her so very different from you. You were willing to take all those steps to break the rules of the match to ensure that you would walk out with the victory—she was the one that was not willing to break the rules! Because she knew that the rules set in that ring are upheld because of honor that we may not have for each other—but what we have for the business.”
I lowered my arms to my side and let my eyes fall upon a table… I gestured for the camera to turn and it did to reveal the table full of a variety of weapons that would be legal to use in our match. Everything.
“The honor that we should uphold in a match does not exist this week… Even in the ambulance match that we had at Metamorphosis, there were certain codes that we should have upheld just for the industry’s sake—you broke it… This time is going to be different. This time, it doesn’t matter what you want to bring with you to the ring! It doesn’t matter what we encounter out of the ring!
Our match is completely unsanctioned.
There is nothing that is illegal.
I know that probably makes you so very happy… Knowing that there is nothing you cannot do—but that’s a double-edged sword. When you are not restricted to anything, I am also not restricted to anything! That means that I have the time to inflict as much pain and suffering on you as I possibly can… And at the end of the evening, the people are going to see one man standing.
They are going to see Seth Evans… standing tall over ‘GOD.’
They are going to see the Age of X finally brought to an abrupt end!”
I step closer to the table and let my hand glide across the weapons: chairs, chains, staple guns, sledgehammers, trash cans, fire extinguishers; everything I could put on the table was there… and even the table itself.
“I am not you, Angel. I never will be… That does not mean that I am not eventually going to win the World Championship—that does not mean that I am going to shatter every record you have set so that your name becomes nothing more than a whisper. It means that I will not fall to your level when I am not in this type of match with anyone else.
It means that I am going to shatter your record by keeping the honor with the rules that are put in place every time we go down to the ring!
I am going to better than you.
And this Sunday… I am going to prove that I already am.”
I let my hand linger a few moments longer before raising my hand away from the weapons and walking out of the room; letting the camera fade out with the last image of the weapons that I may find lying around at Danger Zone.
