Before there’s any fade in, I’m reminded of a commercial that’s been airing on television in the States for quite some time, and for a while I thought to myself, “What an annoying God Damn commercial.” Then Alexis hit me on the shoulder and yelled…”IT’S PERFECT!” So with a bit of conversation and perhaps a bribery of a plate of brownies, we got the production crew to put this together for you Mercedes you annoying little bitch.
The scene fades in and shows a date flashing on the screen.
January 5, 2014 House Show
I think I can…
The results for the house show, untelevised, reads, “Alexis Caffrey def. Mercedes Vargas”. Another date then flashes on the screen.
January 13, 2014 Monday Night Sacrifice
Ruby Title Number 1 Contender Five Way Diamonds Match
I think I can…
The screen flashes to the end of that match…
Mercedes grabs Louise looks to put her away for the three count when Alexis and Desiree sprint back into the ring. Desiree rips Louise out of Mercy’s grip and Alexis grabs Mercy herself, Desiree hits HEARTLESS and Alexis hits the KISS GOODNIGHT! Both women cover and the ref drops to his knees… ONE! TWO! THREE!!!
Another moment in time.
2014 IRON MAIDEN
Eternity tries to get a shot in whilst Caffrey is off balance but she receives a slap for her troubles followed by a DDT which lays her out flat on her back. Vargas groggily climbs to her feet as Alexis lifts herself up and Alexis hits a spinning back kick to the stomach followed by a blown kiss. Alexis then runs toward Mercedes, grabbing her head as Alexis’ momentum spins them both 180 degrees before she drives both of her knees into the face with a Kiss Goodnight to Vargas! Alexis goes for the cover here, 1….. 2…… 3! Vargas has been eliminated.
And again.
May 5, 2014 Monday Night Sacrifice
I knew I could.
Alexis gets a long two count as Mercedes kicks out in the nick of time. Alexis picks her up and goes for the “Imagine This” Shiranui but Mercedes falls forward, blocking the move and slamming Alexis on the mat. The two girls get up and Mercedes hoists Alexis onto her shoulders for the “Black Rose Overdrive” (Inverted Death Valley Driver). She stumbles for a minute and Alexis is able to shift her weight, twisting her body around the Ruby Champion in the center of the ring, locking in the “Entanglement” submission hold (Black Widow). Mercedes fights and falls to a knee as Alexis puts all the torque she can into the hold and Mercedes is forced to tap out in the center of the ring as the bell rings.
The scene goes to static before refocusing on Alexis sitting at her familiar Starbucks table with a half full drink in front of her, her hands folded neatly on the table between her and her drink and the Diamonds Title displayed nicely next to her on the table as well.
Do you get the point yet? Is it sinking in? I’m sure I could find plenty of other examples of insanity in the lopsided rivalry of Alexis Caffrey vs Mercedes Vargas. Trust me…it’s entertaining watching all the ways you’ve lost to me or been eliminated by me in the past.
Do you know what’s missing you silly little rabbit?
A win…
By you…
At all.
WAIT!
The scene fades out and one more date hits the screen.
January 25, 2015 METAMORPHOSIS
Alexis goes for the cover as Mercedes slowly begins to come round again and regain her senses and the referee drops to the mat. She begins her count, 1…… 2……. 3! Alexis Caffrey picks up a big win here and books herself a spot in the Diamond’s Championship match next month! Mercedes stands up just in time to have her hand raised as she looks down at Alexis covering Maldini, still a little unsure of where she is, but she doesn’t seem to care as she celebrates clutching her skull. Eternity smiles as she continues to watch her fallen comrade from the top of the steel cage.
Alison Valance: Here are you winners, Alexis Caffrey and Mercedes Vargas!
The scene fades back to Alexis at the Starbucks Table.
Okay, there we go…a win for Mercedes…
WAIT!?
YOU MEAN EVEN THAT WIN WAS BECAUSE OF ME!?
She throws her hands in the air, bringing them down on the table, shaking her head.
I give up…I don’t understand what in the coldest of hells, makes you think you can come out of October Revolution with my baby around your waist Mercedes. I mean, judging by evidence…I’d have to beat myself for you to win, and sweetie, that’s not happening.
She takes a sip of her drink before sitting back in the chair, relaxing, thinking of the situation at hand.
I will however give you some props Mercedes. After all, I didn’t honestly think it would be you given our past. I truly didn’t believe it would be you walking out from behind that curtain to accept my challenge. I thought maybe the savior of the division, you know, that walking blueberry face Amber with her black eye and beat up self would drag herself to the stage and save us all from the zombie apocalypse or whatever. I thought maybe her sister, you know, that loud mouthed little tattoo art board would come waltzing out with the Shieldmaiden Title and challenge me to a title versus title match so we could show the boys from last month how it’s truly done. Heck, even mommy dearest could have turned the lights off and back on again just for me to show her who the true lioness of this pride really is one more time.
Then your music hit. I watched…well…laughed as you walked out onto that stage and answered the call before all the rest of them. All the rest who call me a fluke, or tell me I’m a paper champion, yet none of them have the ovaries to walk out on that stage and say it to my face or accept my challenge, and yet here we are, I’m stuck…beating you…again.
She stands from the table, palms down, holding her up as she leans forward, the intent in her voice matching the ferociousness in her eyes.
So it will be you who is the first one silenced. It will be you who is the glaring example of why I am not worthless, not some paper champion, not some fluke little girl to be toyed with. I beat first Ana Valentine, and now Eternity to hold this belt, something you’ve never done, and yet last week, you had the audacity to call me a fluke? You question my victories over some of the more prominent names in this industry, my ascension to somewhere you can only hope to one day be, but will never achieve?
I’ll tell you what’s a fluke, it goes by the name Mercedes Vargas. You know, that idiotshitforbrainsbitchwhowasRubyChampionbutlosttomeTHREETIMESDURINGHERREIGN!
She stops a minute to catch her breath as that was quite a lot to come out all at once. She regains her composure and sits back in the chair, taking another sip of her drink before setting it to the side and pulling the Diamonds Title in front of her.
We know that if you would have put that title on the line against me just once Mercedes, your reign wouldn’t have lasted a month, but you ran, you ducked me at every opportunity, and as history shows, and I’m sure you’ll recant, I would have ducked me too if I were you.
The only fluke in this match is you Mercedes and I can’t wait to expose it to the world…AGAIN!
She takes a final sip of her drink before slamming the empty cup on the table in front of her, grabbing her title, and leaving the scene before it abruptly goes to black.

“No More Doubt”
I had my talk with Mike, he set me straight and I did EXACTLY what he said to do. I focused on my match with Eternity. I focused long and hard, trained harder than ever before, and locked in on in his words, “Kicking the paint off of her face.” And…
I DID IT!
So I got off the plane after Extreme Endurance and was picked up by his best friend Ray as Mike had a scheduled rehab appointment. I was to meet him in the gym where the therapist had made a house call seeing as how we had everything needed. We pulled into the parking lot and I jumped out of the car, racing to the front door to make his “vision” into the future come true. I took the Diamonds Title and fastened it around my waist. I looked down and watched the sun glimmer off of the golden polished surface before opening the door and walking in, moving the sunglasses to the top of my head.
Looking from side to side I spotted my husband on a leg press, working lightly to rebuild the strength in his knee. I walked over in an overly dramatic fashion. He heard the sounds of my Chucks hitting the cement floor and held the press up before turning in my direction a smile quickly coming over his face.
He signaled to the therapist who helped him lock the weight in place before he slid off the machine. He grabbed a towel and started wiping his face as he headed in my direction.
See? What did I tell you?
A smile came over my face as we wrapped our arms around one another. He pulled off quick, kissing me on the lips before backing up as to not cover me in the sweat that covered him from head to toe.
How’s your workout going?
He looked back behind him, wiping his face one more time.
It’s going great. The leg is strong, and in fact, the next thing up is a run for conditioning.
I nodded before he turned the attention to me.
How about you? How’s it feel to have your baby around your waist again?
I pulled my hands up to the front plate of the belt and an almost orgasmic feeling encompassed every thought in my head.
OH MY GOD! IT FEELS SOOOOOOOO GOOD!
He couldn’t help but smile at the joy it brought to my being to be called champion again.
I mean, to get the monkey off my back of not being able to EVER beat Eternity, it really is a pressure relieved. There’s just one thing…
I looked down for a moment as all the doubter’s words crept into my head. Mike saw me and stuck his finger under my chin, lifting my gaze back up at him.
What is it?
Nothing really. It’s just…
Go on. You can tell me.
What everyone’s saying.
He shook his head with a smirk.
What? What’s so funny?
You can’t let what everyone says bother you. Let me guess…they’re calling you a fluke. They’re saying you’re not a real champion.
I nodded.
Pretty much.
That’s just them trying to tear you down in your big moment. They’re trying to make you feel insignificant, doubt yourself so that the walls will be lower and they can swoop in and take that from you.
He points down at the championship around my waist.
You can’t let that doubt creep in. You can’t let the words bother you because that’s only a mask for how they truly feel.
I tilted my head as I continued to look up at him.
A mask?
He nodded.
They fear you. They’re afraid of what you’ve become. They’ve seen you go from someone who stood at ringside during my matches to a true Diamond…THE Diamond in that division and they’re scared they’ll never get it back.
A smile formed on my face. His words were uplifting.
Use that fear. Turn it against each and every one of those other girls on the roster, and make them realize that every single time they step in a ring with you…they’re going to regret it. You have the opportunity to show the world that you aren’t only “a” champion, but “THE” champion in the IWF. All the haters can kiss my ass. You have what it takes…go out and show it.
He looks back at the clock and back at me.
Got your clothes here?
I nodded.
Run with me?
Yeah, let me go change.
I headed for his office as he smacked me on the backside, getting a smile in return. I closed the door behind me and drew the blinds shut. I stood there for a moment and thought about what he had to say.
He’s right. It’s time for me to go out there with a supreme confidence. It’s no longer thinking I can hang with the best…it’s time I knew it. I AM the champion and I WILL BE the champion until I say otherwise.
I could feel the confidence coursing through my veins. A confident smile crossed my face as I pulled away from the door, the scene fading.
******************************
As I sit behind this camera and guide it toward my lovely wife, I stare at her, I see how she’s grown in this industry and I couldn’t be any prouder of her. I didn’t let the emotion get to me though as this was serious, and she wanted to keep this as professional as one could as she stood up against a brick wall with the Diamonds Title around her waist.
In the end Mercedes, none of the words matter. The stats you’ll bring up, the multiple wins I have against you…none of it matters because all of it has absolutely NOTHING to do with October Revolution. The past does not predict the future, as the future has yet to be written. All that’s known is that you will walk down to the ring and look in my eyes, you as challenger, myself as champion.
As you stare…
As you see my soul through my eyes, the fire that burns, it’ll all be something that you’ve never seen before. You’ll see me at my best because that’s the point I’m at right now. You’ll see me as better than you’ve ever seen me. If you were to rely on the history, that would worry me. I beat you then, and now I’m more focused?
She waves her hands in front of her.
But like I said that doesn’t matter. What does matter is my state of mind.
Most people win a title and they’re content. They figure they’ve reached the pinnacle, and they can ease up a bit, let their foot off the gas even slightly…AND THAT’S when someone comes to knock them off the perch.
She shakes her head and points into her chest.
Not me…not at October Revolution. You can walk in with all the confidence you want Mercedes. You can bring the numbers. You can call me all the names you want to call me. You can try your hardest to taint my title reign, but in the end…all that matters is when I’m pulling your arm out of its socket and force you to tap in the center of that ring.
It’s the inevitable Mercedes.
You’ll want to stop it.
You CAN’T stop it.
See you then…enjoy your illusions of grandeur just a little bit longer because in the end…I’ll make sure the past repeats itself.
She snickers in a snide manner before simply turning and walking out of view before the scene cuts.
The scene fades in and shows a date flashing on the screen.
