Against The Tide
Last week, Helena, I taught you a valuable lesson.
That there are consequences to your actions. That there are punishments for your continued refusal to accept that you have belittled a fellow woman.
You may view it as an act of cowardice, but it was anything but. It was a brave act by a woman who has the decency to stand up for every single one of us, regardless of the fact that I knew it would result in the potential for receiving serious harm. I am a martyr for a cause far greater than myself, and I am walking against a tide.
A tide of internalised misogyny.
You’ve seen it, I’ve seen it. The moment I stood up for Fiona, despite our very public differences, I was attacked. On Twitter, the establishment marched out it’s mercenaries to tear me down, to make fun of me and mock me. I was ridiculed for having the bravery to say what nobody else would, beside Fiona herself.
That she was an athlete, flawed maybe, but an athlete nonetheless.
She didn’t deserve to have her dignity dragged through the mud for the amusement of a cishet male audience whose only concern is the next woman they can find to objectify and obsess over to fulfil their carnal desires. She may be a tool of the men around her, but she still deserves to be treated with the respect accorded to a colleague who has put herself into that squared circle.
That was something I always assumed was paramount to professional wrestlers, I was sadly mistaken.
The perpetuation of the sexualisation of female wrestlers is apparently more important than standing up and saying no, this is enough. Girls are happy for Fiona’s dignity to be sold down the river as long as they continue to benefit from the corporate machine that would eagerly disrobe them once they ceased to be useful as respected athletes.
Those who simply enjoy their time in the sun with no care for the damage it is doing are doomed to suffer the consequences.
You learnt the hard way, Helena.
Despite your best attempts to hurt me, I have shown you the error of your ways, a lesson you stubbornly refuse to learn, When you tried to cheap shot me, a brave man sacrificed his privilege to ensure I wasn’t ruthlessly cut down amidst my crusade against injustice. Last week, I ensured that you got your comeuppance for your dastardly behaviour.
Yet, in predictable fashion, I am forced to fight you again.
With some window dressing of legitimacy draped across another inevitable attempt to silence me in the form of a future shot at the IWF Shieldmaiden position.
A motivation for you to shut me up for good.
And oh, fellow readers, how much IWF would love for that to be the case.
Since day one they have wanted to silence me, to cease me inconvenient truths, because they know it is not best for business. The endless exploitation of women is far too lucrative to give up, and they know I will never stop until they are forced to treat us all with the respect we deserve.
So, they send wave after wave of terminators, determined to deliver a beating that makes me reconsider my options.
And I am sure you’d gladly deliver that violence for your heteropatriarchal oppressors to ensure you get to snatch the prize they’ve dangled in front of you, a mere carrot to motivate a morally deficient donkey incapable of any decency. Because if we are being honest, that is all you are to them, a broken servant who will do whatever they want with the correct form of motivation.
Yet you could be so much more.
Alas, you are too far gone. Whatever the result this week we both know you will never admit what you did to Fiona was wrong, you’ll continue to enjoy your ill-gotten gains from your capitalist over lord and the dignity of any woman who happens to be in your way will be a small price to pay for you to achieve your dreams.
You know it, and I know it.
This week is truly a battle between good, and evil. We continue to normalise behaviour which is incredibly harmful to women everywhere and your victory will only be yet another setback in our path to achieving parity with our undeserving superiors. Many will be hoping for this, many will be praying that it will be the end of my journey.
But that is not the case.
No matter the result, I will not abandon those who need me, regardless of the personal cost to my body. Because I would sooner us it as a weapon that a tool for the continued objectification of women, I’d rather blunt it against blow after blow from those who seek to hold us down and profit from our servitude.
Even if it results in short term losses.
Because history is on our side, our message will not be silenced and our march to equality will not be stopped, no matter how much the dying beast thrashes out before its putrid final breath signals the end of centuries of oppression.
You are, and always have been, an agent of conservatism against genuine change, Helena, and for that I will do everything in my power to slice out your malignancy this week, not for some title shot, but for the greater good of women everywhere.
To ensure that an incident like that which befell Fiona never happens again.
That our respect is never sold so cheaply for the short term gain of a few thousand views of lustful eyes.
There we are worth far more than they allow us to be.
I’ll see you out there Helena.
Prepare for the weight of moral good to come crashing down upon you, to wash away the sins of IWF’s past.

#ThisIsNotWhoIAm
It is that time of year against when cultural insensitivity is the order of the day, where cultures are mocked and marginalised communities feel unsafe both on campus and the streets. It’s important to self-reflect this year and truly think about your personal choices and how they affect others. I strongly encourage and advise my followers and all my colleagues to fight against cultural appropriation this year and wear sensitive and appropriate costumes.
Let’s be brave and end this harmful practice together.
Let’s make Halloween safe for everyone.
