Gabriela looks over at the phone, sighing heavily. It had been almost a month. She had moved to America, been living in goddamn Detroit all month, and they still hadn't called. It was a good thing she had been able to find that apartment on Craigslist rent-to-rent. "Sometimes your advice works out, old man," she murmurs, swirling the remnants of a can of Coke around in her glass, "but this is starting to become a real pain in the ass."
She hops up on her feet, twirling her keyring around her pinky, and strolls out of the apartment, pulling the door closed behind her. She had her gear and computer in the apartment, but there wasn't much. Gabriela sighs, shaking her head and jogging down the steps to the lobby. Her eyes flash over the apartment numbers, landing on 204 and conveniently glossing over the "Nathanson" name on the front. Gabriela slips her key into the lock, popping it open and fishing out her mail. She shuffles through the letters, muttering to herself. "Hijo de puta better have something for me soon, or I'm going to..."
Gabriela trails off, grin widening as she shuffles up the final letter in the stack. The IWF mailing address printed in the upper left hand corner shines like a beacon in her eyes, and she sprints back down the hall, barely able to contain her excitement. Gabriela yanks the door open, slipping in and slinging it shut as she practically sentons into the couch. The furniture rocks somewhat, but stays standing, and Gabriela lets out a miffed grunt before shredding the envelope and withdrawing the letter inside.
Her eyes blitz across the letter, and she lets out a whoop of joy, grabbing her phone and speed-dialing. The voice on the other end picks up, professional, smooth, and competent. "Bueno, has llegado a las oficinas de la Academia Nueva Horizonte de Lucha Libre en Guadalajara. Nuestro horario es—"
Gabriela cuts him off, excitement pouring from her voice. "Who's your girl who just got herself a match on PAY-PER-VIEW?! This girl! ¡Esta chica! ¡Mirame! Yeah!"
The professionalism drops in a heartbeat, replaced with a room-shaking whoop of joy from Aaron on the other end. "YEAH! FUCK YEAH! Oh Gabriela, I am so goddamn puh-ROUD of you! You got a slot on Diamonds are Forever? I was just about to call Katherine Lockheart herself and start complaining that they were sitting on the biggest prospect they have!"
"That's the bitch of it, though. I checked the letter. Katherine Lockheart herself scheduled this match. Against a former Shieldmaiden, of all things. I've got Fiona damn McFly. Champion after champion. Who else thinks they've got plans for ya girl?" Gabriela grins, and Aaron's laugh on the other end of the line is enthusiastic.
"Damn, girl. You know, I think you're right. Two former champions? You don't get that kind of meal unless you're being set up for the big table. Make it count, girl. Make that shit count." Aaron chuckles again, pride beaming through his voice. "You win this one, you're letting the world know you're for real. Think about that. Fucking Escorpion de Plata is going to have to watch you on pay-per-view while his trainees are working flea markets. Rub that in his face."
Gabriela grins wickedly, cackling and nodding. "Fucking Escorpion de Plata. I'll send him a signed poster. Maybe he'll hang it and look at it so it reminds him of his failure? I sure hope so." she sighs, looking at the travel arrangements. "I'm gonna have to book it out to Charlotte real quick. Maybe I'll catch some sightseeing before the show?"
Aaron laughs, grin evident over the phone. "You do that. Hey. Gaby. I'm proud of you, girl. Now go out there and tear that girl a new one. Talk to you later, chica?"
Gabriela nods, smiling. "Talk to you later, viejo." She hangs up, this time over the top of a good-natured sigh, and sighs, sitting back on the couch and staring at the letter. After a moment, she drops the letter on the couch and knocks back the rest of her drink, leaping up and darting into the bedroom with a whooping cry of joy as we fade out.

Guess who's back, bitches?
That's right. You couldn't keep me away for long, because Diamonds are Forever, and chicas, I am the biggest, baddest, brightest Diamond in this whole place. Y'all know it, and the boss lady knows it. She brings me out when she needs the big guns. I know y'all missed me. I know ya did. And I missed you too. I love my people, and I love giving them one hell of a show.
Fiona McFly. Oowee, girl, you got a ton of crazy circlin' your head right now. This business with Jinx, you and Jack dealing with all the trouble you're getting into. And they say I got a mouth on me. ¿En serio? Let's be real, of the two of us I'm the calm one, and I think that says mountains about who you are right now.
Truth of the matter is, I'm glad I'm dealin' with you. I'ma be real with you for a second: no matter how much trash I talk about you, you've still got a legacy behind you. You got a rep up here that I don't, and I'ma have to do a lot of catchin' up if I want to even get close. So you know what would get me right in that conversation up with all these names you got circlin' in the air, all the Garcias and that?
A big win, on the biggest night on the Diamonds calendar, over someone with your history. That's what I gotta do if I want to make the impact I know I can. Put you down and out, maybe knock a little calm into you. You need this, girl. It's for your own good.
But don't let my empathy come off as pity. Don't mistake my kindness for weakness. I'm not doin' this out of the goodness of my own heart. End of the day, I'm still here for me first. Anyone who says otherwise is either looking for canonización en vivo or trying to sell you something. I'm gonna be straight with you: this is about me. This is about my time. I got somethin' on my soul, I'ma go down to church and confess.
You ain't my absolution, but I am absolutely sure I'm puttin' your ass in the ground. No ifs, ands, or buts. Call me Mexican Airborne, 'cause I'm gonna drop a bombing run on you and send you back on home wavin' those principles of yours like a white flag.
I gave you a taste of what I can do last time out. This time, I'ma blow you all away. This time, I'ma leave you wanting even more. And this time? This time you are all gonna marvel at me. Bienvenidos a la nueva era. It's gonna be one hell of a ride.
