As the minutes ticked ever closer to the end of Sacrifice, it looked as if the renegade faction; The Council would secure yet another win in there many battles with the main event. They had them right where they wanted them and it looked like everyone was going to go through a table that night. Until Jayson Matthews entered the scene. When things looked there darkest it seemed that Jayson talked a little light in Ulf Hedner. At least long enough for Verona and security to storm the arena and stop everyone.
Everyone wants to know why.
Maybe Jayson felt it was the right thing to do? Because it certainly was. Or maybe the guy just happened to be at the right place at the right time? That could be true. Or perhaps he just couldn't sit back and watch another brutal Council attack because Lord knows they already need to be reeled in.
Sasha Grey: What in the heck was that about!?
She said as she came storming up to him amidst the chaos in the back. The main event had ended and everyone was being washed up in a sea of security, wrestlers, agents and members of the press. Sasha drove right through at all directly towards Jayson.
Sasha Grey: Why are you getting involved in The Councils business?
You ever just have a gut feeling you just couldn't ignore?
Like it almost weighs you down and complicates everything until you finally act on it? I don't know, it's crazy but that's what I had last Sunday night on Sacrifice. The Council were making there attack and I saw everything happening and then I saw Ulf and I just felt like I had to act. I didn't quite understand it at first but when I was there looking at him, I could tell he was hesitant and I could tell I was making a difference.
I look at the other members of The Council. They all look like they belong together. Your Kole Kaos and your Jason Sandman’s they definitely belong along side the lowest of the low in Cavier Cross. They all look like they don't take many showers and torment innocent people for fun. They all look like the type of people that make a party go from fun to oh damn I better start keeping an eye on my wallet. Those guys look like they might seriously hurt you if your not careful.
I don't know him very well but I just get the feeling that he doesn't fit in with those guy…
Sasha stares at him, awaiting his response. Her eyes wide but her eyebrows crossed. She was worried and angry at the same time.
Sasha Grey: You don't just butt into there business. There not exactly good guys, Jayson.
He shrugs his shoulders and turns to face her.
Jayson Matthews: Yeah. But Ulf might be….
She seemed to get more frustrated and she furrowed her brow and shook her head as she shrugged her shoulders.
Sasha Grey: What do you mean!? Ulf was going to powerbomb Laszlo! He is apart of The Council! How could he not be a bad guy?
Jayson Matthews: Sometimes, you just got to give people the benefit of the doubt.
She wasn't sure how to respond to that. On one hand she hated how naive he could be and how it could get him into trouble. On the other hand she really admired how he can see past the obvious and see people for who they really were. Or who they could be.
“Hey Jayson?”
They both heard the voice come from down the hall. They turn to look and they spot a timid fan staring back at them. He looked to be in his late twenties and he had a Jayson Matthews t-shirt on.
Fan: Jayson Matthews?
Jayson nods his head and smiles.
Jayson Matthews: That's me dude. What's up?
Jayson extends a hand to shake and the fan gets a little flustered by the motion. It takes him a second but the fan shakes his hand back.
The Fan: oh my….wow…he he he…..uh….i don't wanna sound like a total mark….
Jayson rolls his eyes and chuckles. There was something “cute” about when fans use the insider terms.
The Fan: …but I just wanted to say that I'm your biggest fan. I know I'm not supposed to be back here but I wanted to thank you for doing what you do in the ring. You even inspired me to go back to school and get my degree. I never would have had the guts to do that If I didn't get inspired by you. You helped me become better than I was.
I was moved.
I grew up feeling like I never mattered.
Like no one cared.
My dad left when I was a baby and my mom was addicted to pills. So to meet a complete stranger and here them say they are inspired by me to be better….man….It just makes me feel so good inside.this is why I do what I do. For moments like these. To make a difference.
Like the wrestlers in the past did for me.
Jayson Matthews: I'm glad to hear that my friend. I'm glad I could help. Say….
I had a way to give back. To show my appreciation.
Jayson Matthews: You busy next Sunday night? I can get you a couple tickets to the next Sacrifice where I go one on one with the Imperial champion, Andrew Jacobsen!”
The fans eyes light up with excitement!
The Fan: Oh man that's going to be an amazing match! I'd love to! Andrew has been on fire as the champion….its going to be a tough match for you.”
Jayson nods his head in agreement.
The Fan: But it was you that showed me what hard work and perseverance can do if you want it bad enough so if anyone can shock the world and pick up the win over the champ, well then it might just be the greatest never was there ever was.
Jayson smiled.
Jayson Matthews: Well then I guess there is only one thing left to do.
The Fan: Ooh can I say it once?
Jayson nods his head and motions for him to take it away.
The Fan: Go Bananas!
Fade
We open up on the face of Jayson Matthews as he stares into the camera.
“I guess I have a tall task ahead of me this week.”
He gulps.
“I'm stepping inside the ring against the Imperial Champion. Andrew Jacobsen. No man has ever deserved to be called champion more than Andrew and it's fact that he EARNED his spot as the imperial champion by putting in nothing but hard work day in and day out. People ask me how exactly I plan to contend with Andrew Jacobsen. And I answer them the same way I do everyone else…I'm just going to do what I can.
“See I know I'm going into this fight at a disadvantage. I normally am but this time I know it to be true. That's not a knock on myself or my abilities, I've just seen Andrew wrestle, I’ve watched him compete in that ring time and time again and it's safe for me to declare that Andrew Jacobsen is on a totally different level then I am. Again that isn't a shot at myself that's just a fact in itself. In this ring Andrew is better than I am. Honestly he's better than a lot of people in this ring and right now he has the belt that proves it!
But just because I can admit to you all that the worlds champion is better than me doesn't mean your going to see me running out the door.
He shakes his head.
In fact I'm walking into Sacrifice and I plan on bringing it to the champion. You know I remember this older wrestler, practically a legend at this point in his career. He let it shine through in his performance what hard work and dedication can bring you if you really try. This veteran proved that your not always going to be the best at things. He showed that sometimes your going to fall and sometimes you might need a little help back up. But if you just kept trying and working at it and staying determined, even if you find yourself curtain jerking the pre-show, if you just stick with it…eventually….,one day….it WILL all work out.”
He places his hand on his heart and closes his eyes as he thinks about one of his old favorites.
“I always held that wrestler close to my heart. Because you know, a lot of times when I was young and starting out in this business I felt like giving up. I felt like cutting my losses and putting an end to this crazy dream of mine. But I didn't. Because my favorite wrestler never gave up either, even when everyone else said he should. That guy helped to give me the strength to carry on in this business and in life sometimes and I'll always cherish that because it's helped me through some darker times.”
Jayson smiled and looked into the camera.
“That wrestler is you Andrew.”
“You represent so much to so many Andrew. You are a true role model. A man that I've tried to model my own career and style off of. A man that will certainly be an IWF Hall of Famer one day.”
He points into the camera.
“And that's why I can't back down Andrew. I mean first off you don't deserve that and would never want it and secondly I can't back down from a guy like you, Andrew. It's a spit in the face of everything you stand for and represent. It would be a spit in the face of everything that I've been through up to this point.”
He steps forward.
“So with all due respect Andrew, I will be bringing the fight to you. I will be bribing you a fight like no other because that's the type of skill and preparation you need to face the champion. With all due respect Andrew, I am going to bring you a fight that proves how much I respect you and what you've done. Wether I win or lose, I know that I left it all in the ring! It's like a good man once said….
He points into the camera.
“You bring your best….”
He points back at himself.
“I'll bring mine…..”
He smiled.
“And may the best man win”
