If most people were to look at the surroundings, they would see a peaceful and calming park. There is beautiful green grass, and a crystal blue lake. To most people this would be a paradise. A place to gather with friends and family, and have a great time. You might even say it’s the perfect place to have a picnic. If you are Ryan Shane, you know better.
This place might seem like a little piece of heaven, a place you will only find in your dreams. Despite how it looks, he doesn’t like it here. He knows what this place really is…
He sits on a park bench and looks up at the sky. For the time being it’s clear, but he knows that won’t last forever. This is what he dreads. He continues to stare until he hears a familiar voice coming from behind him.
Amber Lynn: It’s been awhile since you’ve come to visit me. I usually have to come see you.
Ryan Shane: My coming here isn’t voluntary. It just happens sometimes when I sleep. I don’t like it here.
She takes a seat next to him.
Amber Lynn: I know, I don’t like it here either. Being in the place isn’t exactly voluntary for me either.
This is the place she’s been tied to since her gruesome murder at the hands of Ethan Keith. A place that she isn’t exactly alone in.
Ryan Shane: I know, but we’ve been through this. If there was anything I could have done, I would have done it. There is nothing more that I want than to be with you and our son.
Amber Lynn: You keep saying that, yet…
Ryan Shane: I can’t do it Amber. I can’t just end my life. There’s more for me to accomplish in my life. I just wish you would understand that.
Amber Lynn: I understand, you would rather save teenage girls. It doesn’t matter how many others you may save Ryan. You’ll have to live with how you failed us.
He turns to face her, you can see that sadness in his eyes.
Ryan Shane: You’re not being fair…
Amber Lynn: Life isn’t always fair, neither is death…
As they sit there in silence for a moment, the sky begins to turn dark, a storm is coming.
Amber Lynn: We don’t have much time left. He’s coming…
Ryan Shane: You could just stay in my world, I don’t mind you being around. I miss you when you’re gone.
Amber Lynn: I can’t, this is the only place I can be with our son. I know you can’t understand what he means to me.
Ryan Shane: Don’t say that…
Amber Lynn: Don’t forget Ryan, you’ve replaced him with your precious title.
Ryan Shane: I haven’t…
Amber Lynn: You have! Now you are replacing me…
Ryan Shane: You’re wrong, I could never…
The sky continues to grow darker. There isn’t much time left.
Amber Lynn: I’ve seen you with Laura Howlett, she’s quite beautiful…
Ryan Shane: That’s just business…
Now it’s time for sadness to be in the eyes of Amber.
Amber Lynn: If that’s true, why is she sharing your bed?
The eyes of Ryan open and he finds himself on his back. As he stares up at the ceiling he is afraid to look. Turning his head, he sees that he’s alone in the bed. Amber might be right, he is lonely. Could Laura Howlett be the one to change that?
Later that day…
Twas the night before the next edition of Sacrifice. Ryan Shane and his advocate Laura Howlett were going over things inside of his hotel room. The union between the two is going to be a big boost for his career, and Ryan knows it. In between talks of how to take out Jayson Matthews, and what Devlin Raine claiming he gets a rematch, Ryan decided to order some champagne. It’s been a couple weeks, but Ryan still feels the need to celebrate.
As the night progressed, that’s when Ryan made a mistake that could change everything…
Now he stands outside the hotel room of Laura Howlett deciding if he should knock on the door. It won’t be long until they have to leave Megasport Arena. Working up the courage he finally knocks.
Laura answers the door and lets him in. As she is packing up her things before they leave, Ryan just stands there for a moment. Finally he speaks up.
Ryan Shane: About last night…
Laura Howlett: What about it?
Ryan Shane: It shouldn’t have happened. I know on television that we’ve been portrayed as a couple, but I’m just not ready for that yet.
She doesn’t say anything, but continues bouncing between the bed and bathroom gathering her things.
Ryan Shane: I’m sure you’re a great girl…
Ryan isn’t sure how convincing he is, but it doesn’t matter as it doesn’t take Laura very long to interrupt him.
Laura Howlett: Ryan, there’s no need for you to explain anything. I assure you that my interests in you are strictly professional.
A confused look comes upon his face.
Laura Howlett: You didn’t think that you were so irresistible that I’d just jumped into bed with you, did you?
The look on his face shows that he might have thought just that.
Laura Howlett: You’re cute Ryan, but you’re not that cute.
Ryan Shane: I’m confused…
Laura Howlett: It was just a kiss…
Ryan Shane: Yeah…
Laura Howlett: It’s nothing we haven’t done in front of the cameras.
Ryan Shane: It was a little different…
Laura Howlett: It will take more than a drunken kiss for you to win someone like me Ryan. That should ease your mind.
He does feel a little bit of relief. He isn’t sure he’s ready to move on just yet. Plus a woman like Laura Howlett could be trouble.
Laura Howlett: Though if you were interested in trying, I wouldn’t mind the entertainment.
See. Trouble.
Ryan Shane: I think keeping it professional is best.
Laura smiles at him for just a moment.
Laura Howlett: I suggest you watch your drinking around me. I’ve been known to be quite addictive.
As she turns away to continue packing her things to take to the arena, Ryan just stares. In the moment he knows that she speaks the truth.

When it comes to Jayson Matthews, I don’t get what the big deal is....
It seems somewhere in becoming Invictus champion, he went from a laughing stock, to a real threat in the IWF. A win over Andrew Jacobsen, and suddenly he’s one of the biggest stars in the business.
As the Man of Steel champion, this doesn’t sit well with me.
When Spike Kane was the champion, everyone was focused on him. Once he broke the record, people thought he might never lose it. Then in what could only be considered a miracle, he dropped the title to Devlin Raine. I corrected that mistake as soon as possible, but it was too late.
The Man of Steel title had already fallen, instead of being the most talked about championship in the IWF, it became an afterthought.
There are people who would place the blame on me…
That’s why I issued the challenge to Jayson Matthews. I want to show everyone that Ryan Shane isn’t third, or even second rate. Ryan Shane is top champion in this company. Once I beat Jayson Matthews, people will realize that I was not to blame for the fall of the Man of Steel championship.
I didn’t care what kind of match we had, it doesn’t matter. There is no match where Jayson Matthews can better me. That’s why when he wanted to pick, I let him. I’m not afraid of a ladder match. I’ve spent my IWF career making a name for myself in a steel cage, to me, a ladder is nothing. I will enjoy knocking Jayson Matthews down a few rungs though.
I know he isn’t the smartest man on the roster. He’s a tough son of a bitch, and he has more guts than brains. I just thought he would be smart enough to realize what getting in the ring with me means. When you get in the ring with me, you don’t walk out the same as when you walked in. That’s if you walk out at all.
I figured Nighthawk would have keyed you in on that. I thought he would have pleaded with you. Not that it would have done much good. You follow your heart, not your head. At Sacrifice that’s going to prove to be your downfall. It’s going to lead to you losing.
I’m going to climb that ladder and place MY Man of Steel championship for all to see. It’s going to be glorious when the crowd reigns down their boos, and they realize that their personal hero is what us in the business know him as, a loser.
I’m not sure Jayson is even going to be able to climb the ladder with his hands in such bad shape. How are the burns by the way Jayson? I’ve heard that they haven’t yet determined exactly what was in the bottle, but with Jason Sandman’s love for sharing liquids, I don’t think I would ever want to know. It might be one time that being in the dark is for the best.
I know you're going to come out and give it your all Jayson. We both are. This isn't only about winning and losing. This isn't only about proving who the better champion is. This is for the pride of Detroit. The winner gets to to be king. This is an honor I'll gladly take. I can't put our people through that when they've suffered so much already.
I know they're are plenty of people who think Detroit isn't worth fighting for. Those people will never understand the pride we have Jayson. People see Detroit as a waste, a haven for crime and murder, a city that went bankrupt. They see it as the world sees you Jayson, as a waste of space. The intelligent among them will see Detroit as a city as the rise. They'll see it as a city about to regain its former glory, much like I'm doing every day I hold the Man of Steel title.
Open Fight Night is going to be just that. A fight like the IWF has never seen. We're going to be fighting for a lot of different things Jayson, but ultimately we're just fighting to see who's better. In our own minds we know the answer, but come Monday night, the world will know the truth.
All of the advantages belong to me. I’m more talented, fully healthy, and I have the intelligent and beautiful Laura Howlett in my corner. All you have is determination and guts. Wait, I forgot the adoration of the fans, for whatever that's worth.
After I beat you on Monday night Jayson, there will be no doubt who the better man is. The spotlight will be shining on me. You're only the first step, because once I'm done with you, Andrew Jacobsen is next.
You're dealing with a new and improved House of Howlett, one with a sturdier foundation than ever before.
The message is still the same…
Jayson you're going against the house…
And the House of Howlett always wins!
