Last week at Open Fight Night I stepped into the ring with Jayson Matthews, in a match of his choosing. The two of us gave it our all, but in the end, I came out victorious. I proved that I was the better champion, and the rightful King of Detroit.
There are some who will say that if it wasn’t for Jason Sandman the result might have been much different. To those people I say...not a chance. I can’t help it that The Council has seen Jayson Matthews as an easy target. I’m not to blame that they have made it their goal to take the Invictus title from him.
You don’t see them coming after me…
That’s a smart move.
Devlin Raine, he isn’t bright enough to just leave well enough alone. The guy is lucky he can even walk, but his first act of business is to come after me and MY Man of Steel title? How can he think that he has any claim to it? His time with the belt was short lived. One of the biggest nights by any IWF star ever, and he squandered it.
He’ll get his rematch...and it will be the last match he’ll ever have.
Raine wants to play nice this week. He wants to work together and get a victory over Spike Kane and Mike Laszlo. That’s fine with me. I have no personal issue with you Devlin. My interest in facing you was purely professional. You had something I wanted and I came for it. It was that simple.
Believe me when I say I want to win this week. I want to continue showing everyone that Ryan Shane is the best thing going in the IWF today. I can’t pretend that a win over two of the best ever won’t mean something. I not only want to win, but I won’t settle for losing.
When the bell rings we’ll work together and we’ll come out on top. Just don’t get in the way of my victory Raine. If you do, I promise I won’t forget.

The IWF continues its tour overseas with a stop in China. This trip hasn’t only been an opportunity to expand the product across the world, but it has also allowed the superstars of the IWF to visit places and take in cultures they might not have had the chance to see otherwise. Plenty have taking advantage of this, but there is one man who hasn’t…
Ryan Shane…
Before aligning with Laura Howlett, Ryan would stay in run down places, where the chance of having to deal with fans or crowds were at a minimum. As the foundation of the new House of Howlett he has had to change where he stays, as Laura has flat out refused to stay in anywhere less than the best places. Her logic makes sense, when you’re the best, you need to act like it.
It doesn’t keep Shane from keeping to himself. Lots of room service meals, and workouts in hotel gyms. He isn’t even willing to do promotional appearances, despite Laura telling him it’s best for their brand. He’s a project, and she knows it. One she feels will be worth it when the final product comes to fruition.
Ryan Shane: What do you think about crowns?
He sits on the foot of the bed in his hotel suite (only the best). Laura Howlett is only paying moderate attention to him and she is caught up in looking on the internet. After a few moments waiting for an answer he asks again.
Ryan Shane: Laura, crowns, what are your thoughts?
She closes the computer, never allowing you to see what she’s looking up. Turning to Ryan she has a skeptical look on her face.
Laura Howlett: I think crowns might be a bit...tacky…
A slight look of disappointed comes over Ryan’s face.
Ryan Shane: I’m King of Detroit, aren’t kings supposed to wear crowns?
Laura Howlett: Yes, but and I mean no offense, but it’s only Detroit. Plus if you were going to go that route, I don’t know why you’d need more than one.
Ryan Shane: Every king needs a queen…
An amused smile appears on her face.
Laura Howlett: Honey, whatever gave you the idea that I’d be your queen?
Ryan Shane: I just thought it might come across well on the shows.
Laura Howlett: Ryan, you should know by now that I don’t play second fiddle to anyone. I’m trying to lead a house, remember?
Ryan Shane: I know, but you did choose me.
Laura Howlett: I did...I hope I didn’t make the wrong choice.
Ryan Shane: You didn’t. So that’s a no to the crown?
Laura Howlett: If you want me to be your queen Ryan it’s going to take more than a crown.
Ryan Shane: I could get you a scepter?
The two share a smile and a laugh.
Laura Howlett: I’m going out, are you coming this time?
He knows he should. How could he turn down anything a woman like Laura Howlett wants?
Ryan Shane: Nah, I think I’ll just stay in…
Laura Howlett: Suit yourself...enjoy your night king…
She grabs her laptop and makes her way out the door to head to her own suite. Laura is going to get ready and head out to see all that Shanghai has to offer. Ryan is just going to tolerate the walls of his suite.
It’s not everyday that you get booked in a match with Mike Laszlo. It’s not every week that Laszlo even has a match. He’s one of those guys who haven’t done anything in awhile, yet still get treated like he is some sort of IWF legend. In my eyes he isn’t even close.
He wasn’t done any favors when you tried to compare him to the liked of Spike Kane, Roberto Verona, and Cable Arcane. There is no reality where the name of Mike Laszlo should be spoken amongst those names. Mike Laszlo is no Hall of Famer.
He’s a guy much like Jake Conway who just continues to hang around despite the fact he has worn out his welcome long ago. I guess it’s only guys like me who are really to blame. If we want to rearrange the hierarchy of the IWF we need to beat guys like you.
Easier said than done…
I know you’re probably looking at me Mike and you probably aren’t that worried. That seems to be the default reaction when it comes to what people think of me. No matter what I do, no matter what I accomplish, I’m seen as second rate.
I’m tired of the disrespect…
If this were a one on one match, I know I’d be able to beat you. There isn’t anyone on this roster that can go toe to toe with Ryan Shane, especially not you Laszlo. It seems that you can’t do anything right as of late. It’s alright Mike, it happens.
I’ve looked at your list of accomplishments and they are impressive. I have to give you that. You’ve done things I have only dreamed up. While I will never say you belong on any Mount Rushmore, or in any hall of fame, I will give you this. You’re a bonafide main event player. One of the best in IWF. You should be proud of that.
The problem is…
All of you IWF guys are going to be the death of this company. You’re worried about infighting and personal vendettas and you’re going to let people take what you built and turn it into a shit show. I’m talking about The Council…
Egos put aside for one goal. I expected the Hall of Fame guys to be the way they are. But you could have been different, you could have used that chip on your shoulder and tried to be better than the self righteous. I guess that’s too much to ask from the best period…
The future of the IWF belongs to guys like me. The ones who have put in the time, made the sacrifices. It’s been awhile since you’ve been stepped on hasn’t it Mike?

Later that night? Early the next morning?
Despite his better judgement Ryan finds himself developing certain feelings. He knows he shouldn’t. Mixing business with pleasure never seems to work out for him. Last year he found himself developing a crush on Shea O’Hara. Could you imagine?
When Laura left it took him a moment to change his mind. He wanted to chase after her, but decided that perhaps a surprise might be the better option. He got ready really quick and decided to find himself some flowers. Ryan doesn’t know if she’ll even be interested but he’s going to see if she wants to go on a date.
This is a big step...he knows it.
Laura Howlett is a woman way greater than he could ever deserve.
Shane dressed in his best clothes, and carrying flowers knocks on the door of Laura’s suite. After a few moments he knocks again, but there is no answer. It looks like he overestimated how long it would take her to get ready and he’s too late.
A little disappointed, Ryan knows he should just head back to his room and order something to eat. Instead, he heads down to the hotel bar.
He takes a seat at the bar and orders a beer and a couple of shots.
Ryan Shane: I’m going to need you to keep these coming…
As the night goes on Ryan has become more than a little drunk. He also is starting to gather a little attention. Especially from a lady in the corner. The dark haired woman in a tight dress makes her way over to Shane with a sly smile on her face and takes a seat.
Woman: Get stood up?
She looks over at the flowers on the bar.
Ryan Shane: No, nothing like that. I just had hoped to...it’s doesn’t matter.
Woman: If you’re looking for some company, I’m more than happy to offer my services.
Even though Ryan is drunk he knows when a lady just wants money from him.
Ryan Shane: I think I’ll pass…
Woman: Are you sure? You look like you could use a little relief.
Ryan Shane: You aren’t wrong...but I’m not paying for it. Sorry you’ll have to find someone else.
The woman sees this as a challenge.
Woman: How about I buy you a drink and we see how the night goes?
A free drink? What could be the harm?
Ryan Shane: Alright, as long as you’re paying.
She signals for the bartender and he brings a couple of drinks.
Woman: To new friends…
Ryan Shane: Sure I’ll drink to that…
The two share a toast and a drink. As the night goes on Ryan has long since reached the point of too many, but he’s having a good time. It’s been awhile since he’s had so much to drink but it’s letting him forget.
As he continues drinking with the woman at the bar Laura Howlett has returned from her own night out.
She passes the bar and sees Ryan there with the woman and a smile on her face. If she is phased, it doesn’t show on her face.
Spike Kane…
A few months ago I would have been apprehensive about getting in the ring with you. Who would have blamed me? You were in the midst of the greatest run ever with the Man of Steel title. You were destroying people, and taking them out of action. In a division of men, you were a God. I thought I could be the one to show everyone that they were being deceived, that Spike Kane is no God.
I failed…
Then at the Roulette, just for fun, he destroyed me for even thinking I deserved to be mentioned in the same breath as him. I felt his vengeance and suffered the worst night of my professional career, as well as my personal life.
On that night I knew things had to change…
When I came back from the injuries you caused I had my eyes set on you Spike. If I had won the Joker in the Pack match I would have come for you just like Devlin Raine. My time on the shelf gave me time to think, and I came to this conclusion…
I’m not a afraid of you anymore…
I have no reason to be. I’m Man of Steel, and a deserving one at that. I corrected your mistake. Guys like Devlin Raine don’t have what it takes to be Man of Steel, they only fool themselves. You may still be going strong Spike, but I promise you, your long reign as Man of Steel champion will be eclipsed.
I do have to say one thing to you Spike…
Thank you!
None of this would have been possible without you. You lit a fire that won’t be put out. You put guys out with injuries, I’m trying to do the same thing. This is what I learned from you. If you want to reach the top, and stay there, you do whatever it takes.
Lie about cancer, maim a friend, throw away close relationships…
Whatever it takes…
This might only be a tag team match Spike, but a victory over you is going to become another jewel in my crown. This match might turn into a clusterfuck, but as long as my hand is raised in victory, let the crazy happen.
This is a match where none of us are the best of friends and anything can happen. I used to be a tag team specialist, and I can carry any partner to success, just ask Jake Keeton. Devlin Raine is no Jake Keeton, he isn’t even JC Keeton. He’s a flash in the pan, and will no doubt be a crutch…
I don’t expect Spike and Laszlo to get along but I know they can be dangerous. I can be quite dangerous myself. I don’t care if you call yourself the King of Xtreme of the Best Period. Those claims are thrown around alot these days. You can even call yourself something outrageous like The Destiny Dealer.
There is one thing that can’t be disputed because I’m the only two time Man of Steel champion in IWF history. I’m the man the House of Howlett is being rebuilt around, after it all came crashing down.
I’m the future of IWF, but don’t forget…
My time as always, is RIGHT NOW!!!
