I’m the 2017 Heir to the Throne…
I know when Legacy went off the air most of you were surprised. Even though every sign said that I would win the thing, I was met with nothing but doubt. This is nothing new for me. My career in the IWF has been a rocky one. Every time I thought I was getting close to the top, disaster happened. It looked like Ryan Shane would have to settle for being a bit player.
That just wouldn’t do…
I know how good I am. It’s amazing how few people can see it. For the longest time I couldn’t even see it myself. Then my eyes were opened. It took Spike Kane beating me to a pulp for me to realize something. If I was going to make it in the IWF, I needed to stop being nice. I needed to start being real.
I needed to be the Ryan Shane I was meant to be.
I set my eyes on the Man of Steel title, and with little resistance it became mine. That was the first step, reclaiming former glory. I had to prove that the last time I lost the title it was a fluke. Mission accomplished. The next step, winning the Heir to the Throne…
The moment I proved all the haters wrong.
Not that I needed to. I care very little about what people have to say about me. I’ve done this without the support of the fans, or anyone else in the back. There is only one person who has shown any faith in me whatsoever.
Laura Howlett…
She’s the most stunning, and intelligent woman in the IWF. Her track record speaks for itself. People are begging for her services, falling over themselves in hopes that she’ll advocate for them. She could have had her pick and you know what?
She picked me!
Laura Howlett saw something in me and with her guidance I’m only one step away from the top prize in the IWF.
The Imperial Championship!
It’s only a matter of time. Just like Cable Arcane before me, I’m going to make good with this victory. It doesn’t matter if it’s Andrew Jacobsen, or Spike Kane. The result will be the same. The house is being rebuilt, and the foundation is stronger than ever.

Winning the Heir to the Throne is a big deal. Anyone who says otherwise is either jealous or lying to themselves. Ryan Shane knows how important it is. Winning puts him a select group, winning puts him in a whole new bracket. It was always going to be a struggle for him to be anything more than a secondary champion. There were always doubters saying the talent wasn’t there, or he lacked the charisma to get the right crowd reaction.
He never cared about that. He just wanted to be the best he could be. Even if he had to sacrifice everything to get it. He’s always talked the talk, but finally he’s beginning to back it up. In the hopes of winning Heir to the Throne he had planned a little private celebration back on the hotel for Laura and himself. He wanted to thank her, tell her exactly how he felt…
But she never showed.
The last time he saw her was after they came back from the ring. In a sea of angry faces he could have used a friendly one. The last thing message he got from her was a text. It said she was flying back to Houston and that she’d be at Sacrifice.
The time apart doesn’t sit well with him. He wants her by his side.
His flight back to the United States is a lonely one. What was supposed to be Laura’s seat was now taken my a Japanese man who wants to make more conversation than Ryan would like. Having had enough he pulls a pair of headphones over his ears and looks out the window. Lost in thought he thinks about what Laura is doing, but guilt also creeps in. How could he be falling in love so soon?
As two sides of his heart wage war all he can do is mutter to himself…
Ryan Shane: Fucking Houston...
This week should be one of celebration. The King of Detroit is now the Heir to the Throne. I should be coming to the ring as the crowd serenades me in boos, my reward for once again defeating that fool Jayson Matthews.
Instead a match…
Not just any match, a mixed tag match. I’ll tell you right now that my interest in the Diamonds division is zero. Not that there aren’t very talented ladies putting some of the men to shame there. It just isn’t my focus.
There is only one woman in the IWF I keep my eyes on…
I’ll let you figure it out.
It looks like this week is a bit of a showcase. The Heir and Heiress to the throne teaming together and showing everyone just how dominant they can be. It’s an interesting pairing for sure. Helena Sawyer and I couldn’t be more different, yet in a way we share a bond.
Helena is all about showmanship, and spectacle. That’s fine when she is doing her own thing. I prefer to be a man of action, using my ability to win matches. Make no mistake, this is a match we’re going to win. All you have to do is stand on the outside of the apron and look...well whatever you call what you’re going for.
If you do have to get in the ring I expect that Kate Steele will be no problem for you. Sure she’s had a couple of bright spots in her IWF career, but she is far removed from being the Shieldmaiden, and is basically an afterthought.
Shame…
I’m the biggest attraction in this match. I’m the one with the biggest future. There’s nothing that’s going to stand in my way. I’ll be damned if I’m going to lose to Kate Steele and Todd Williams.

It feels good to be back in the states. The trip overseas had been a huge success for Ryan Shane, but nothing beats being back home. As the IWF builds toward Extreme Endurance it’s making a stop in one of the most historic buildings in all of entertainment...Madison Square Garden.
Being on his own in New York feels pretty much the same as it did when they were on there trip. Shane has barely left the hotel suite he had booked, instead working out and eating alone. Mostly trying to avoid people in general. The IWF even tried to get him booked on some of the morning shows to talk about his win, but he never returned the calls. I’m sure he’ll catch hell for that later. Let the faces of the company handle that. Ryan isn’t in that position yet…
As Shane tries to relax after a soothing shower he hears a knock on the door. With a glimmer of hope he leaps from the bed and rushes to answer. He doesn’t even check to see who it is before answering.
Before he can process what he’s seeing a left hand clocks him in the eye…
Ryan Shane: What the hell you do that for?
As he clutches his right eye, he looks back to see his older cousin Brian standing there.
Brian: You’re lucky that’s all I do.
Ryan Shane: Is this about me telling you I wanted to be alone for awhile?
Brian: No, this is about you teaming up with that bitch Laura Howlett! How could you after what she did?
It’s been over a year since Brian, known better under his ring name Muru, had to retire due to injuries suffered at the hands of Zasshu. This was done while Laura Howlett was his advocate.
Ryan Shane: That was Zasshu, he ended your career. You should be happy, I returned the favor.
Brian: No, it was that bitch. She uses and manipulates people to get what she wants. She’ll do the same to you.
Ryan Shane: I won’t have you talk about her like that. Laura isn’t the women everyone thinks she is…
All Brian can do is look at his cousin with disgust. He’s seen this look in the eyes of Ryan way too many times before.
Brian: You gotta be kidding me. You’re in love with her...her of all people?
Ryan Shane: I don’t know if it’s love, but yes, I’m developing feelings for her. If you got to spend time with her like I have, you’d understand.
Brian scans the parts of the suite he can see, looking for any sign of her.
Brian: Where is she? I’d like to give her a piece of my mind.
Ryan Shane: She isn’t here. We haven’t been seeing much of each other lately.
Brian: I’d say that’s a blessing. It isn’t too late to change your mind. You don’t need her, you can do things on your own. You're talented enough to win the Imperial title on your own.
Ryan Shane: You're wrong…
Brian: So that’s how it’s going to be?
Ryan Shane: It doesn’t have to be. I just want you to understand where I’m coming from. She really isn’t like the girl you see on TV.
Brian: You’ll never convince me of that…
The two cousins just stand in silence for a moment.
Brian: You better get some ice for that eye.
Ryan Shane: You don’t hit as hard as you think old man.
Shane heads toward the kitchen to retrieve some ice for his eye. He got suckerpunched, but despite what he says, it hurt like hell.
Brian: While you're in there grab me a beer. You have beer right?
Ryan comes back with a homemade ice pack and a couple of Bud Lights. Despite their differing opinions, they’re family, and they have a lot of catching up to do.
Todd Williams…
When I saw you were my opponent this week, I thought it must be a mistake. I’m the Heir to the Throne, surely I should be put up against tougher competition than you? When I realized it wasn’t, I knew they were giving me a sure thing. I guess it’s just one of the rewards of being the man who will soon be Imperial champion.
I’m not trying to offend you Todd, but you’re not in my league…
When you returned at Bloody Assizes Todd, you talked a big game. You wanted all eyes on you, you wanted to be the big deal you think you are. I’ll admit you got people talking. I personally heard quite a few people asking who the hell you were. That was in between their laughter. It was quite a sad sight to see.
It was pathetic...which just happens to be the perfect word to describe you Todd.
When it came time for the Heir to the Throne, you made a bunch of claims you couldn’t make good on. It was supposed to be your meal ticket, but instead you choked on your misplaced pride. You’re all talk and no substance. You want to save the IWF? From what? The fact you still have a contract is bewildering. I guess maybe it’s for matches like this.
Don’t I deserve a break?
This match isn’t going to be a challenge Todd. There is only one end result, and that’s with me standing over you. I’ve heard you talk about meaning business, but I hate to tell you Todd, you’ve chosen the wrong career. If you want to be successful in this business you need to give your all. You can’t just show up on a whim and hope to compete.
I live and breathe wrestling...it’s who I am.
Who are you Todd?
A failure?
A fraud?
A fool?
The IWF doesn’t need you to save it. Despite what certain groups around here say, the IWF is in no imminent danger. It surely can’t be saved by someone who can’t even save themselves. You call yourself “The Redeemer” but what have you ever redeemed?
If you want to see a story of redemption, all you have to do is look at me. I’m the one who went from struggling to being on the verge of greatness. I’m the one who took nothing and made it into what is turning into an amazing year. I’ve done more in the past few months than you’ll ever do Todd.
I’m the Heir to the Throne, and you’re not even worthy of being in my ring.
Todd, I want you to know that I don’t take you seriously. I have no reason to. After Helena Sawyer and I defeat Kate Steele and yourself, we’ll probably not see you again for months. Tell me, how long does it take to lick your wounds? I figured you would be an expert by now.
I’m meant for bigger and better things Todd.
It seems your future is to be little more than a bug crushed by my boot.
Sacrifice is where I take my first step to Extreme Endurance and my crowning as Imperial Champion. It’s also where you continue to road to disgrace. I know you didn’t ask for this match, but you’re in it. All you can do is survive.
What other option do you have?
You’re going to be an example Todd…
I hope Spike and Andrew are watching…
