In what was starting to become a trend as of late, we open up on Jayson Matthews sitting in the medic room. He had some new bandages on some new fresh wounds but this time he wasn't the one being seen, he was starting to get good at peeling himself off the mat. Although he wasn't sure if this was a good thing or a bad thing.. This time it was Tyler Jacobs turn to visit the medic after getting choked out by Sandman at Freedom Open Fight Night.
Jayson Matthews: You okay Tyler?
The doctor was checking for any internal injuries or other damages, but Jayson could see that his journalistic friend was groggy and had a sore throat.
Tyler Jacobs: I’ll be fine.
The host of Tyler Talk squeaked out of his throat.
Tyler Jacobs: Are you okay?
Jayson knew his body was in pain but he nodded his head anyway. The pain wasn't the first thing on his mind.
Jayson Matthews: Yeah, I'll be fine. But why did you do that?
Tyler sensed a bit of anger in the usual jovial Invictus Champion and was clearly surprised at the reaction.
Tyler Jacobs: I was trying to help you, buddy. I knew he wasn't going to stop beating on you unless somebody did something about it.
Jayson nodded his head. He knew his friends I intentions came from a good place but the way the match ended, the controversy, it just left a bad taste in his mouth.
Jayson Matthews: Yeah but you fast counted him.
Tyler shrugged his shoulders.
Tyler Jacobs: “So what? That scumbag Jason Sandman can go kick rocks for all I care. It’s what he gets for messing with us! Right?”
Jayson doesn't say anything back. He just seemed disappointed.
Tyler Jacobs: C’mon, you're still Invictus Champion and Sandman got nothing. Everything worked out! You won!
Tyler explained his point of view and couldn't quite grasp why Jayson didn't feel happy about a happy ending. Jayson just shakes his head.
Jayson Matthews: I didn't win last week.
His voice got low.
Jayson Matthews: I merely survived.
He hung his head low and sighed.
Jayson Matthews: I'm the Invictus Champion. If I'm really going to be a champion, then I'm either going out to that ring and I'm defending this title like a damn champion or else I'm going down fighting like one!”
He looks up at Tyler and he looked serious. Tyler could tell it was important to him.
Jayson Matthews: I owe that Championship that much.
Tyler nodded his head.
Tyler Jacobs: I'm sorry.
Jayson nods his head and finally smiles.
Jayson Matthews: Its cool dude. I know you were only trying to be a bro, and I appreciate it.”
Jayson extends his fist and Tyler smiles and bumps back.
Tyler Jacobs: I’m just glad it's all over…
Jayson Matthews: I gotta fight him again.
Tyler had to do a double take to make sure he was serious.
Tyler Jacobs: But the blood….and the pain….and the scars…..Jayson why?
Jayson looked like he didn't know at first. But he looked at the scars on his hands that have now healed into terrible looking discolored patches on the back of his hands and then his clenched his hands into fists.
Jayson Matthews: Because I need to either finally kick his ass…..
He gulped.
Jayson Matthews: Or go down trying.
Tyler just shook his head and thought his friend was a bit stupid, but of course he doesn't say that.
Tyler Jacobs: Jayson you are a...uh...bold kid.
Jayson chuckles.
Jayson Matthews: Bold eh? I like it better than mine. It's a lot nicer than stupid.
With that Jayson heads out of the room.
“What's up everybody?”
We open up on Jayson Matthews as he waves into the camera. He looks a bit confused...well more than usual.
“Now I don't mean to be a complainer here but I have to ask…..who makes the matches around here?”
He looks around his bedroom in his Chicago flat as if he would find the answer right there in his room.
“I mean i’m thankful for every match I get from management but this one….this week….well it's quite a head scratcher!”
He scratches his head just like he said.
“ I mean on one side you got Devlin Raine and you got Chris Card. Two guys that are buddies of mine and two real cool dudes. These guys are a blast to hang out with and it does suck to have to face off against them in the ring but that's the nature of the business. You make enough friends and eventually you are going to see one of there names on the opposite side of the card. But I'm also jumping at the chance to mix it up with those two.”
He nods his head.
“Oh yeah. Devlin Raine and Chris Card are two stops the Jayson Matthews Victory train of amazing authentic authenticity has not been able to make for one reason or another and both those guys bring a different challenge to the table. Take Devlin Raine for example.”
He smiles at the mention of his friend The Destiny Dealer.
“This guy is a pretty good wrestler and had a night at the grandest stage of them all that most wrestlers could only dream of. Not only did he beat five other guys to capture the Joker in the Pack but he cashed it in, that very night, to end Spike Kanes legendary reign as Man of Steel champion and he did it at Night of the freakin Immortals!”
He whistled in amazement.
“That is a night that will last a life time. The guy is working towards regaining the title he made history securing and you know in his spare time….”
He looks back and forth, hoping nobody is listening.
“I don't know if I'm allowed to mention this on the air do to certain legal issues but I will say I know of certain “dealings” that he’s known for and I mean that's just entrepreneurship right there, you know? That a successful business acumen that will look good on future applications. Yeah Devlin has a good head on his shoulders and I think it's only a matter of time before he gets his title back. So I guess I better beat him now before I have to man of “steal” some time from him later.”
He snorts when he laughs for a few moments before he thinks of something serious he should say.
“I just want to point out that I don't do…de-stiny.. and I don't condone anyone else using drugs or selling them for money! Let's keep the streets clean people.”
He grins hoping his buddy Devlin got a chuckle out of that.
“And then Chris Card….well he brings something entirely different to the equation…bitchin’ style!
Jayson looks completely impressed.
“I mean have you seen those t-shirts? So cool!”
He smiles and rubs his palms in excitement.
“I got one, but mine isn't as cool as the official Chris Card t-shirt. Then there is the robes. And…”
His hand rubs over his baby face.
“I can't even be in the same conversation about that facial hair. The dude is called Technical Perfection for a reason and we're not even talking about his GQ style. This dude is the total package and pretty much hilarious, And quite possibly one of the best technical wrestlers I've ever seen and that's impressive for me to say because I know Nighthawk and Andrew Jacobsen and they are my coach and the Imperial champion.”
“So with all due respect Chris, with a nickname like that, I have been itching for an opportunity to step into the ring with you and see what you're all about and I'd be excited to do it this week but it's under bad circumstances.
Jayson shakes his head.
“I want a chance to face you both one day because I know you'd be a true challenge but not like this week….not with “him” there…the guy who has been beating me up, spilling my blood, sending me to the hospital for fun...and management decided to put him on my team for tag match?”
“I don't even think Sandman cares about the rules or maybe he just can't read them, but either way that sick bastard doesn't care about rules or my well being. I know they want a match with some drama and excitement but now I have to wrestle with one eye behind me. Wondering what Sandman is going to do….what he's thinking….
He gulps.
How much blood I'm gonna spill?
He rubs his forehead full of wounds. The joking demeanor starts to fade away.
“The sick bastard…..he's in my head….”
He tears up again.
“I'm scared of you Sandman! Is that what you want to hear from me? But I want you to know that you’ve hurt me too many times….and sooner or later….somehow….someway….I'm gonna hurt you back!”
He squeezed his fist.
Was I sure I wanted to do this?
No.
Did I have to?
I had no other choice. If there was a way to even the odds against Sandman, to sink to his level then I needed to find it. I needed to find my dark side.
And he was the only one that could help me.
Spike Kane: Are you sure you want to do this?
Jayson Matthews: Yes.
I lied. I was nervous but I knew I was on the right track, just looking at Spike Kane made me feel a bit angry on the inside.
Spike Kane: But why come to me? I'm not sure if we've ever been on good terms?
Spike looked confused as he stood in the middle of his practice ring in his dojo. Even Pandora raised as an eyebrow as she watched from the corner between a pair of head phones. Jayson stepped toward the center of the ring where Spike stood.
Jayson Matthews: You walked in quietly….you beat up my friends….you seriously injured my wrestling coach and his wife….and then you just walked out.
Even reliving the memory made him feel angry inside.
Jayson Matthews: I need you to teach me how to be that heartless…it might be my only chance….”
Fade.
Jayson Matthews: You okay Tyler?
The doctor was checking for any internal injuries or other damages, but Jayson could see that his journalistic friend was groggy and had a sore throat.
