There isn’t much I can say about my match with El Grande Malo. It happened and I was victorious. It’s a match that maybe next time it happens might be a little more memorable. Until then all you need to know is…
Muru Splash for a 1...2...3!!!
I do know that after another victory that I was riding high. It could be that good mood that had be feeling the way I did. It might be the reason I reach out to Dejuan Dawson.
I could see it on his face that his lose to Mr. Happy was weighing heavily on him. Two weeks into his IWF career and the kid looked defeated. It looked like he was ready to give up. He didn’t understand that the Imperial Wrestling Federation isn’t like any other place he’s wrestled before.
I’ve seen it before…
Dejaun Dawson is used to being the big fish in a little pond. In the IWF, it’s a big pond, full of big fish. The problem is, there is always a bigger fish. When you reached the pinnacle of the business, things get a lot more cutthroat. This is where you learn if you have what it takes.
Giving up two weeks in?
That’s not the attitude you need.
I’m trying to prove I still have what it takes. Sure, it’s easier for a guy who’s been there, and done it before. I just don’t want to see a guy like Dejaun with so much untapped potential to give up on his dreams. He’s probably been told his whole life his dreams didn’t matter.
I’m glad he took me up on my offer to accompany me to the ring. I’m not doing it to show him up. I just want him to know there are people who are willing to help him. Not everyone is out for themselves.
Dejaun, I’ll do whatever I can to help you out.
All you have to do is watch and learn.

Muru doesn’t normally travel to shows a couple days before. This week is different. Even though the show is in Pittsburgh and it’s a short trip, he left early. He didn’t have to, he could have waited until Sunday, but he wanted to. Leaving a day early helped him avoid a college Halloween party that his girlfriend invited him to. After going out for drinks with her and her friends last week, the party is something he had zero interest in.
He doesn’t want to lie to her. Despite the age difference they have fun together. It’s just when they are around her friends, it reminds him of how young she is. It reminds him of how old he is.
The cab he took from the airport pulls up to Muru’s hotel. He steps out of the vehicle and grabs his bags from the trunk before paying the driver. As he enters and approaches the counter he can see a middle aged woman waiting for him.
Muru: Hi, I’ve got a reservation…
Woman: Name?
Muru: It should be under Baxter.
After a few moments the woman behind the counter hands him the key to his room. Muru thanks her and makes his way to the elevator.
As he rides the elevator to his floor he pulls out his phone. To his disappointment there have been zero missed calls or text messages from his girl. He hopes that him not being there hasn’t made her forget about him. She said she wasn’t mad. She may have been lying.
When he gets to the room he enters and puts his bags down. He takes a seat on the bed and wonders what he is going to do with the free time. It’s still early on Saturday night and quite nights in his hotel room have never been something that interested him.
He pulls out his phone once more. It crosses his mind to call his girlfriend, but he makes another call instead. There is no answer so he leaves a voice message.
Muru: Hey Dejuan, it’s Moo. I was just seeing if you were in town yet. I’m not sure what your travel schedule is like. I just wanted to see if you were here if you might want to get some dinner, or a drink. I figured you might not have anything planned, and I could use the company. Get back to me when you can.
Muru sits the phone down next to him.
Muru: Damn, he’s a kid. I should've just sent him a text message.
Mr. Happy…
The one guy on the roster who probably takes being called a joke as a compliment. If you look at his history you could see why people are quick to dismiss him. There isn’t much success there. I think he has two victories in his time here. I’ve had two wins in two weeks.
His first win was against James Gilmore, who isn’t exactly top competition. His other win was against Dejuan Dawson, a down on his luck rookie. This week he’s getting a shot against me in a match I asked for.
I’ll be honest...I’m trying to climb the ladder in the IWF. Facing Mr. Happy isn’t exactly a move that’s going to raise my stock in the company. When you are booked against Mr. Happy you are expected to win. I’m expecting to win.
I hope that doesn’t sound overly cocky. It isn’t meant to be. This match is about more than winning, it’s about teaching. It’s about passing on some knowledge to the next generation. This business has given me so much, and it’s time to return the favor.
That being said…
I’m not looking past Mr. Happy. I’ve been saying it the past couple of weeks, no one is on this roster who doesn’t belong. Mr. Happy whether you agree or not, is a professional the same as me. That means there is a chance I could lose.
Mr. Happy, you don’t exactly give off the impression that you take this all too seriously. That could be your plan, or perhaps you just really don’t. Either way, I’m taking you seriously. Even though everything inside me is telling to otherwise.
You’re a caricature…
I’ve seen a lot of guys like you throughout my career. I’ve seen a lot of guys like you in my city. I guess Detroit can be a little weird like that. I’ve never heard of you until a couple of weeks ago, which is surprising, since you claim to be from my city. I bet you’re not even a true Detroiter, you’re probably just a poser from Virginia.
At October Revolution the two of us are going to step into the ring together and I’m going to do my best to beat you. There is no hate, no bad blood. This is just about business. A business that I’ve done quite well for myself in.
I look forward to seeing what you can do Mr. Happy.
Just do me one favor?
Don’t try to love me...I’ll end up breaking more than your heart.
