You know I don’t really keep track of things like this, it was actually Coach that let me know. I’ve been Invictus Champion for one hundred twenty six days.
Let that sink in for a moment.
I get that it’s not the best number, it doesn’t beat the top reign or anything. But it’s pretty crazy to me to think that I’m sitting here with a reign that has lasted this long when I never really thought I’d be here at all in the first place. It’s honestly kind of humbling to say the least. And now this week at October I look to add some more time to my reign when I step up to the challenge of another test. Two men, both looking for their chance to take my title away from me. Two men that I wouldn’t trust as far as I could throw them in a match where I don’t even have to get pinned to lose my title!
Yeah you can see I got my work cut out for me this time.
This might just be my greatest challenge as Invictus Champion to date. I had to go the distance with Bob Pooler. Go to war with Ulf Hednir. And endure the nightmare of The Sandman. They were all one on one matches! Now here I find myself against the chump and the cheat. Two men known to go to low lengths to secure the win. Two men that have a hard time keeping their friends in order. Two men that will have no problem going through me to get this title. All I have do is stop them and I see one twenty seven…...how hard could it be?
We open on as Jayson Matthews is sat watching some selected tapes of Chis Card, most importantly anything that had to with his tricks and cheating that he prides himself on. Jayson just shakes his head as he watches another victim going down and the referee never seeing a damn thing. Watching all these poor referees miss these total crimes unfold made him feel less blind.
Jayson Matthews: Man….it’s like he hides it plain sight. That clever cheat!
Jayson shook his head. He ninety eight percent disapproved but he couldn’t deny that two percent of him was mildly impressed by the sheer creativity. Just then he could hear the front door of his Chicago apartment open up and through it’s frame stepped his girlfriend Sasha. She was still in her scrubs as she slumps onto the sofa exhaustively. Jayson quickly turned off the video and joined his girl on the sofa.
Jayson Matthews: Long day at the hospital?
She nodded her head.
Sasha Grey: Yeah it was a long one. But I’m learning so much. We’re actually going to be working October Revolution so we will be able to be together.
She leans over and kisses him on the cheek.
Jayson Matthews: Oh good. You’ll get to see me finally get my hands on Gilmore live in person.
Sasha Grey: Nice. That’s definitely something I’d like to see. But go easy on him. Lindsay Grawn was the one who did all the trash talk. Gilmore is just the little puppet. Which is actually fitting because inside he’s empty and can’t think for himself.
Jayson’s jaw drops and he covers his gaping mouth.
Jayson Matthews: DAMN! BURN! That’s why I like you babe, cute and sassy!
They laugh as the scene fades.

“Gilmore….”
We open up on the face of Jayson Matthews.
“I never really had a problem with you man. You were always off doing your own thing living your own life. You rubbed people the wrong way, people seemed to harp on you more then most people but I never really got behind that. I do know that you are trying to take on a more political role in your community and become mayor. You needed a campaign manager and by some magical twist of fate, you were graced by presence of Lindsay Grawn. And that Gilmore is when everything started to go downhill….”
His hand starts above his head and whistled as he pantomimed falling and crashing into a mountain, complete with wreckage and fire and the screams of people. He suddenly glances back up at the camera and realized he got weird. He clears his throat.
“Seriously James. Lindsay is a terrible person and you kicking her to the curb is quite possibly the best thing you could ever do. I almost want to congratulate you for it but honestly man it’s a little too late. You see, even though you really didn’t say what Lindsay was saying and you just kind of stood there looking at me with that stupid grin on your face, you still just stood there and let her say it. And didn’t do anything to stop her until after you noticed it was harming your campaign.”
He gives a sarcastic thumbs up.
“Great job. Damage control.”
He nods.
“You know James I thought you were better then this but I know now that whether it’s Lindsay Grawn or Yulia or whoever walks with you down the ring with you, that’s who does your thinking for you. Your nothing more than a puppet James, just like a puppet you have no heart. Your just the right mixture of mindless fluff and bull crap! and I don’t care who does your talking for you from now on. They are gonna have a hard time get there hand up there after I put my foot up your ass.”
He nods as he glares into the camera.

Jayson was at the Wrestle Factory doing his stretches for his upcoming triple threat matches when the video cuts to a few ads. One being a Gilmore campaign video. Jayson just rolls his eyes and shakes his head.
Jayson Matthews: They just let every idiot run for office now.
Jayson turns the tv off as Nighthawk enters the room.
Nighthawk: How did those videos work out for you earlier?
Jayson nods his head.
Jayson Matthews: Good. I learned that when it comes to the cheating he has a pretty impressive arsenal.
Nighthawk: Yeah, he is good at it. That’s for sure. But it is his crutch. Chris Card has taken the short cut so many times that he may not remember the long way anymore.
Jayson considers this as he listens.
Nighthawk: Take away his crutch and he will be weakened. Let’s go over some drills.”
Nighthawk motions for Jayson to follow him into the ring.

“And then there is Chris Card.”
Jayson shakes his head.
“The man that weaseled his way into an Invictus title match! A man who openly admits to cheating like it’s the next big diet fad. I use it all the time and look how I turned out!”
Jayson attempts to mock Card a bit as he shakes his head.
“I’m not mad Chris. I’m just disappointed.
“Disappointed that I gave you the benefit of the doubt. Disappointed that I let you take advantage of me. And mostly disappointed that I allowed myself to think that we were the same. Sure we’re both mountain climber, but I enjoy the climb! The struggle! Being able to look back at the progress I made and knowing what it took to get to where I was. You Chris, you climb the mountain too but you do it for the view….from the lift.”
Jayson’s lip curled in disgust.
“And that’s just not me. So to answer your question Chris, If I were in a match where the only way to win was to cheat that I would happily take the loss. I’d rather lose my title in a fair fight than retain it with an asterisk next to my name. You don’t care who you hurt, who you step on to get to what you want. And sure you may succeed but the real fans, the people who truly love this sport….they’d know the real deal. They’d know what you really were Card…..just a guy with a belt….”
Jayson steps forward. He presses his palms together.
“...So I’m begging you Chris. Do the right thing at October Revolution. Don’t taint the belt I’ve spent two hundred twenty six days building up with your cheating garbage! Either take this title from me without cheating, rule bending, trickery or any other shenanigans you like to rely on. Or just lose like a “real man’s man”.
Let that sink in for a moment.
