A half-an-hour after Sacrifice went off the air...
All Fiona McFly wanted to do on this night was compete.
In spite of trying to process her husband's brain tumor diagnosis, this was all she knew. Wrestling was her job, and as such she had to go out to the ring and perform. Yet deep within her mind, as she headed towards a musician's dressing room inside Tupelo's BanCorpSouth Arena, which serves as an unofficial meeting space for IWF talent, Fiona was uplifted somewhat by the grueling affair of the match she just had.
This was therapy for her. Nothing more, nothing less.
But when the Northern Irishwoman entered the makeshift "green roon," she stood aghast, shocked by the surprise visitors that awaited her.
Young Sarah Dawkins, the fresh-faced Arlington High freshman folkstyle trainee, was there--clad in her white winter's jacket and blue jeans. Yet the even bigger surprise for Fiona on this Monday night...was the presence of her husband Jack Gaither, who stood tall wearing his Dallas Cowboys winter's coat, blue beanie cap, and black jeans.
Fiona was extremely shocked and overjoyed at the sight of the one she loved for so many years.
SARAH DAWKINS:
Howdy! Didn't imagine I'd find myself here!
Fiona's smile couldn't be any wider than what it was at this point, and she cried tears of joy as Jack chuckled.
JACK GAITHER:
I...I was givin' Sarah a backstage tour. Figured...shoot, I just couldn't let her dream pass on by without it comin' true.
But Jack paused, his eyes lit like a kid at Christmas. He knew how much Sarah's mother Tammy loved wrestling and, quite frankly, thought she would have wanted her daughter to take in what the business was truly like behind the scenes. After all, he had not set foot in an IWF arena in quite awhile, and given his diagnosis, he also figured it would help him AND Fiona heal emotionally.
It was -the- perfect way to bring a "family" closer together.
JACK:
That, plus...I just miss the snot outta bein' in a locker room with the guys.
Fiona never lost her smile, her eyes aglow as more joyful tears fell down her visage. She needed the moment of happiness, even as her own world was rife with nothing but darkness.
FIONA MCFLY:
I...I love you.
Jack warmly nodded as Fiona slowly stepped closer to him. Inch by inch, moment by moment...the pair's eyes locked onto each other with a slight tinge of loving furor, but just as McFly is about to go for the kiss, Gaither shook his head, pointing out that there was, indeed, a teenager in the room and didn't want to embarrass her in any fashion.
JACK:
Please Fi....not in front of Sarah.
Fiona couldn't help but giggle, noting that her hubby was right.
