“Nurse said you could have visitors.” Vivienne said closing the room door behind her.
Dawn blinked at her and yawned. “Uhh… I mean, technically?”
“Hope it’s okay that I came.” Viv took the bag off her shoulders.
“Rodgers, right?” Dawn asked sitting up a little. “Sorry, the fucking meds they gave me scrambles the brains.”
“Vivienne.” She nodded. “People seem to like calling me Viv or Vivi….also pastries…”
“Right, right..." Dawn blinked a few times. "Sooo... Not that I’m not super thrilled to have someone other than Nurse Mary Margret to talk to but why are you here? No offense to you, but its not like I've made friend.”
“It’s the holidays. You seemed like you didn’t have a lot of people.” Viv smiled at her. “I also brought contraband.”
“…I would kill for a drink so regardless of what you have in your--”
Viv pulled out a tiny bottle of whiskey and handed it to Dawn. “In my experience one of these is safe when you’re on pain meds.”
“Holy hell.” Dawn smiled at the bottle. “You just brought that into a hospital?”
“Also Donuts.” Viv pulled out a small box of donuts. “Wasn’t sure what your dietary preferences are. I got vegan, gluten free, one with fruit loops on it.”
Dawn looked at the box then at the bag it was sneaked in. “They just let you sneak that in?”
“Do I look like I bring anything but flowers and candy?” Viv grinned sitting down with a maple donut.
“Always the innocent ones.” Dawn shot back the bottle. “That hits the fucking spot.”
“Figured it would.”
“How did you know?”
“Been on the road since I was a kid. It’s the kind of thing my Dad would do when someone got injured.” Viv smiled. “Also hospital food? The worst.”
“…Yeah.” Dawn took the fruit loop donut taking a bit. “That why you’re here?”
“Hm?”
“I got nothing but time to read wrestling magazines here.”
Viv glanced away at the wall. “Ah. At least it hasn’t hit the big news cycle….”
“They said accident. Life support?”
“Forgot who he was. Where he was…” Viv shook her head. “My mom and grandfather are already in hard core mourning. Not the fun kind where you remember the funny stories but the full on weeping and everything tastes like despair.”
“Shitty.”
“I’m the worst. Absolutely the worst. I want to be mad at him, at all of them for how bad things apparently had been getting but keeping it from me. And they asked me not to come home during the break. Like I only need to be there for the big moments. Funerals, weddings, the highlights. ”
“…No offense but I’d punch someone.”
Viv shrugged. “What am I going to do? It’s what they thought was best.”
“Yeah? Well my mom thought not telling me who my dad was until she was literally dead because she thought it was best. Still going to punch the jackass in the dick.”
“You’re going to need physical therapy, right? Want to get back into the groove before making it to the ring?” Viv smiles at her kindly. “I got a school that I’m heir to. I’ve got room and board covered. I want to make sure you get your comeback.”
“…Wow. Not an act. You really just a nice person.”
“I try.” Viv shrugs.
Dawn raised an eyebrow. “This isn’t a hitting on thing is it?”
“What? No.” Viv laughed. “This is me offering a second chance. Too many people get left behind. I’m trying to make sure that doesn’t happen again.”
“…So this is you visiting people in hospitals getting them sugar and offering second chance on dreams?” Dawn asked. “Don’t get me wrong, I am saying yes because Fuck it. Not like I had any other plans.”
“I’m glad.”
“So, you spending your whole break throwing yourself into your work to try to ignore the sucking chest wound or getting laid?”
“Neither.” Viv shrugged. “Trying to spend as much of my time around other people who don’t know what’s going on as possible and try to keep from crying my eyes out for the next two weeks. I’m getting a packed schedule really. Got an invite from Kate and Devlin Raine and the Texas multi-holiday thing… if that’s still happening.”
“The pushing it down until you combust method. Nice, nice.” Dawn smiled. “I cannot over sell the suggestion on getting fucked three ways from Sunday though.”
“I’m not sure there’s a good way to bring up, ‘hey I’m emotionally compromised would you mind doing a marathon of sex with me for a few days and maybe doing a repeat after I have to bury my father’, you know?” Viv shrugged leaning back. “I’m also terrible at telling if anyone is interested in me.”
“Well, dude did coop a feel live on television.” Dawn grabbed another donut. “Ten bucks says he’d be down to be used for sex.”
“I’m not making a bet about Xavier Cross wanting to have sex with me.”
Dawn raised an eyebrow and grinned. "How about a dare, then?"
Dawn blinked at her and yawned. “Uhh… I mean, technically?”
