Inside James Gilmore's villa...
Mikhail Federov knew right away that something just wasn't right.
The living room was quiet. Normally it would be alive with the sounds of screaming contestants as they tried to win all kinds of prizes on The Price is Right, but on this cool Corpus Christi morning, there was nothing but pure silence save for the house's air conditioning system. "Mr. Gilmore?," the Russian called out as he walked into the office that would normally be occupied by the ex-mayoral candidate, only to find that he wasn't at his desk. It was at this moment in time when Mikhail started to become very worried about the man who employed him.
About the man who saved his life in a violent scuffle a little over a month ago.
Shaking his head, Mikhail headed out towards the front of the villa and went outside to check the mail. As he opened up the green mailbox, he discovered a white envelope featuring the villa's address in black marker. He opened up the envelope with a fury and pulled out a letter that had been addressed to him from none other than James Gilmore himself.
The letter read something like this:
~~~~~~
Dear Mikhail,
I want to apologize for leaving you in such a lurch. You have always been a tough bodyguard, a master cook, but more imortantly...a kind and loyal friend to me. You have no idea how much you've meant to me ever since the accident, and I can't thank you enough for standing behind me when that bad dude tried to kill me.
You know it, and so does Abby and Aggie. I would NEVER hurt a fly, much less kill anyone. All I wanted to do was take the gun away from that Plinkohead yet things didn't go like I wanted them to. I was in politics at the time yet never realized that there would be people that could do me or you harm. I should have died on that day but you risked everything in order to protect me and the villa.
And I would have lost my soul had I not done the same thing for you.
For their crimes Lindsey Grawn and her uncle Ricky will be in the pokey for a very long time, but my mind hasn't fully recovered from the accident. That's why I needed to get away for a bit. I needed to go find a place where I could seek answers to the questions I've been asking myself ever since that awful day.
"What made me tick as a person?"
"What was I before I went into politics?"
"What did I always want to be?"
I don't know how long I will be gone, much less when I will be back in Corpus Christi. Yet I will never forget what you've done for me. Remember to sweep, mop, and dust the villa to keep it clean--I usually do all those chores once every two weeks. That is my one wish--please respect it and follow it.
'Til we meet again.
Mikhail took a deep breath and exhaled before kneeling in a silent prayer. He was relieved that his friend had sent him the note. Yet deep in his soul, he knew that James Gilmore would return someday.
He just didn't know "when."
