For Jack Gaither and company, it was THE perfect way to start Christmas Day!
The sights and smells were everywhere throughout the their Fredericksburg farmhouse as he--along with student Sarah Dawkins--had been preparing something grand for the party that lied ahead. As Christmas music from the likes of Bing Crosby, Andy Williams, Nat King Cole and others played softly from the living room iPhone docking station, teacher and student paced themselves with great smiles on their faces as they tried to get the last few dishes ready before the party could actually get going.
They had been working nonstop since five o'clock in the morning to make this a special holiday bash. They were tired mentally, but running on adrenaline physically.
And what a meal it was going to be.
There was chicken fried chicken and chicken fried steak--Texas' best-known food inventions--along with mashed potatoes and plenty of gravy to toot. For vegetables, there was the traditional Southern-style goods such as green beans, corn, and sweet potatoes. There was also a "make your own" salad bar with all the dressings and trimmings for those who were vegetarians. For dessert, there was plenty of pie--from chocolate chreme and lemon meringue to pecan and apple.
As for drinks? There was plenty of non-alcoholic stuff to choose from--including Pepsi and Dr. Pepper along with Gatorade and bottled water.
Jack and Sarah couldn't help but giggle about the size and scope of the meal itself as they looked over at their work, savoring the chance to see how others would react to it. They were sure that the incoming guests were going to get a kick out of it and enjoy themselves. Eventually, Fiona McFly would step into the kitchen and marvel at the spectacle before her before turning to Sarah and giving her a warm hug.
FIONA MCFLY: Merry Christmas love...and happy birthday too!
JACK GAITHER: Oh, that's riiiiight...happy birthday to ya, Sarah!
Sarah warmly smiled, for in her mind she couldn't wait to see the gifts that were in store for her 15th birthday.
The burning question in her mind...was what were they gonna be? She had been progressing in her folkstyle training ever since the detour to Frisco, but even Sarah couldn't help but think about the people she was bound to meet from now until her tournament.
Truly, Christmas was gonna be VERY special.
