CHAPTER 21
"In Which Fiona Finds Herself Searching..."
28 December 2017 + 1730 GMT
Fiona McFly felt a cold gust of wind through her heavy winter's gear, and it wasn't like anything she had experienced in her life.
It was the howling winds of the Reaper's scythe as it cut deep into her very consciousness.
On this day, after having been awake for nearly two days straight, she was in great agony.
She sat stoically on the grass outside the back door at the old farmhouse, gazing her eyes upon the darkening heavens whilst looking down at a small photograph she had taken from the bedroom. Her visage was expressionless, her cheeks as pale and grey as the clouds in the Texas sky on this chilly Thursday as she stared at the keepsake featuring the man she had loved for so many years.
In spite of her outward appearance, the very core of her being was shaken beyond anything she had ever known.
Her pain and grief...was unimaginable, well above and beyond her own level of comprehension.
She loved the man born John Wayne Mathias Gaither with all her heart. She owed him her life and then some, and whilst it wasn't always rosey...she did the best job she could do. In turn...Jack became the central figure of her own life, a rock she could lean upon for comfort and (unconventional) wisdom when the times were rough as hell, when everything seemed hopeless.

Yet now...he was gone.
As the skies turned from grey to pitch-black..Fiona found herself in a place she prayed she would never find herself in.
Alone.
Searching for answers.
