~In Eternal Memory~
JOHN WAYNE MATHIAS "JACK" GAITHER

God's light was shining upon the ranch. His winds were cold and biting with temperatures in the mid-40s.
Fiona McFly felt both of these things as she sat in a chair, reading her Bible whilst looking down at her husband's grave. Her stoic expression hid a painful reality in her soul that even she never imagined would be at the forefront. On this Wednesday afternoon in the Hill Country, Fiona found herself reading through passages, overwrought with a singular emotional state.
Loneliness.
Jack Gaither had always been there for Fiona. He stood by her as her colleagues shunned and demeaned her. He brought her into the very thing that defined his own life for eight colourful years. Now he was gone--laid to rest underneath the lone maple tree towards the back of the farmhouse. And Fiona had no idea on how to process his death. She couldn't understand whether or not it was part of some "plan." She slowly thumbed through the pages of the Scriptures, searching for the two things that might help her out the most in this time of great need.
Closure.
Comfort.
Fiona sat motionless, looking down upon the freshly-carved headstone as Sarah Dawkins slowly walked up...and hugged her tightly. It was at this moment in time when McFly began to lose her emotional control, crying on her pupil's shoulders as twenty years' worth of memories poured into her very consciousness. Sarah gave Fiona a kiss on the cheek, comforting and cherishing her as she understood that Jack loved her so much.
SARAH DAWKINS:
You will see him again, Miss McFly...
Sarah continued holding onto Fiona tightly as her new phone buzzed; she briefly perused through it and discovered a message from her dad Sam.
SARAH:
My dad...he wants you to know that he's buyin' dinner for the whole group at Applebee's tonight, and...well, he's wonderin' if ya wanted to go...
Fiona looked at her protege, tears still streaming from bloodshot eyes as she took in her gentle tone of voice, and kissed Sarah back lightly. She knew it was going to be a long and difficult road up ahead, just days before the upcoming folkstyle tournament, but Fiona saw the night's dinner as a way to help her find closure, a way to help her remember the man he loved and his happiest moments...
...and a way to help her heal.
