This Sunday, I'm going to be walking down to that ring to face off against not one, nor two --- but three... hungry individuals. Three wolves that care for nobody but themselves. More importantly: Each man has something that they need to prove by walking out with that victory and the Man of Steel Championship.
The scene opens up on the front patio of the home where Seth Evans was staying. Dressed in black cargo shorts, and a white shirt, he has one of his hands tucked into his pocket and the other is holding his phone up to his ear appearing to be in the middle of a conversation...
Seth Evans:
"I know... It's not going to be easy, Kiela, but I'm sure that we're going to find a new place to stay. It caught me off guard --- I didn't expect that they were going to be selling the house, and I wasn't really too worried about finding a permanent home. Especially if you're not sure that you want to stay in Miami... It's all going to be okay, though. We both have money set aside and we'll find an apartment somewhere."
There's a break in Seth's speech, as we can hear the murmuring from the other end --- difficult to make out what Kiela is saying. He lifts his head to look out toward the empty street and draws in a deep breath before releasing a long sigh.
Seth Evans:
"I was expecting a little more out of the situation that I'm in... You know me, though..."
A smile comes to his face and he chuckles under his breath. He shakes his head over the situation that he seems to be in but does his best to change the subject.
Seth Evans:
"Talking about it isn't really going to help... We have to do something. I have a few other things that I need to worry about this week... I was wondering if you might want to go out and get something for lunch so that we can discuss this, and then we can worry about where we're going after that. Believe me; what I have to tell you could change the direction my life --- our lives --- are going."
Hearing her voice on the other end, Seth nods his head a bit. The phone conversation resumes as the scene slowly fades away.
Four people are marching down to that ring this Sunday with something to prove. Even the Man of Steel Champion, Ryan Blade, himself --- regardless of what he might say, I know that he has something to prove. As the reigning champion, you could say that he actually has the most to prove...
He needs to make sure that the world sees him as a worthy champion. He has defeated Daniel Constantine at Bloody Assizes to become the first-ever Man of Steel Champion, and he was able to successfully defend the title against Andrew Jacobsen --- a good friend of mine, but don't ask me where he's disappeared off to! That's not enough for someone like Ryan Blade; I see you, Ryan, with the mindset unlike anybody else that's walking around with a title around their waist... You think just like I do. You don't want to be merely a title holder; you want to be a champion. You want the world to see you as a champion! You want your own father to look at you, and see that you are a champion...
You want to surpass the legacy that Xavier Cross has stamped onto IWF in the early days. The same stamp that Bushido did on the Cruiserweight Division --- you're wanting to make sure that your stamp on the Man of Steel division, and the overall IWF, is bolder than anything else. You want to make sure that when people tune in to watch IWF and Sacrifice on a weekly basis, they watch for one division.
They watch for the Man of Steel Division.
You really have been doing quite a great job with doing so because I can tell you, and tell the world --- again --- what my goals were when I signed my contract with IWF... My goal was to be the man that people wanted to beat. The man that people wanted to step into the ring with just for a chance to prove that they had what it takes to compete in the IWF... I'm far from being that person. Ryan Blade, you are one of the people that I truly believe brings in new talent every single day because people want to match up to what you've brought to the table.
I want to match what you've brought to the table.
Two times, Ryan. Two times, we have stepped into that ring and waged war with each other... Both times, I just happened to be on the losing end. You were the one that was able to stand up in the middle of that ring and have your arm raised; but I want you to think back to the last time you and I did step into the ring with each other...
You may have beaten me.
But I never gave up.
Robert Quinn, the head of the Man of Steel Division, saw something in me... He saw that both times I stepped into the ring with you, I was able to take you to the limits. He saw that every time I stepped into the ring with anyone --- win or lose, which has been losing more frequently but that's completely beside the point. I want you to ignore that! I was able to take them to their limits...
He believes that I can do it, again.
He believes that I have what it takes to step inside the same ring as you.
I believe that I can take his belief, and take it a step further.
I believe that the third time's the charm, and I'm going to find a way to march down to that ring with three wolves surrounding me! I'll be ready to take one on at a time, or all three at once, but I believe that I can find a way to dig deep --- just as people know I can do --- and I can walk away as the new Man of Steel Champion. I can walk away with that belt over my head.
I have a few other people that I have to worry about, though... It's not just about you and me, Ryan; we have Deathtrain and Davey Ortega that are also going to be stepping into that ring with us this Sunday, and those two are just hoping to walk out with that belt around their waist.
I'm sure that you're going to agree with me when I say this...
But I'll be damned before I let them walk out of Detroit as the Man of Steel Champion!
Deathtrain, he is a man that has something to prove just as much as you do... Just as much as I do. This is a man that signed his contract with the Imperial Wrestling Federation and had almost instantaneously earned his way into the running for the Imperial Championship. A man that had sat on the sidelines for the last couple years, allowing his name to fade from being a monster --- to a myth. He needs to prove to the world that he can step into the ring and walk out with the gold around his waist; and more importantly, he has to prove to the world that what happened on Sacrifice was... a fluke?
I felt a rush flowing through my body when I locked in the Headcase on you, Deathtrain, and I remember feeling nothing... but... joy... when I felt you tap out. It gave me that little burst of momentum that I may need to step into the ring this Sunday, and do what I need to do to walk out with the belt around my waist...
But I know with an opponent like you, an opponent like Ryan Blade, and even one like Davey Ortega; it's going to be far from easy.
Especially when I know that you're going to be wanting to prove something to me. You want revenge on me for doing what I need --- you want to be that nightmare that I know you used to be to so many people in the past, and moreso: You want to be the Man of Steel.
If you and I end up stepping into that ring with each other, again, I'm making it as clear as I possibly can to you...
You're not going to see me back down.
You're not going to see me fear your vengeance.
You're going to see me standing right in your face and telling you one thing...
Give me your best shot.
The last person stepping into the ring against me this Sunday is going to be Davey Ortega... What's the count? I've had two matches with Ryan Blade throughout my career, I've had one match with Deathtrain, and I've even had a match with Davey Ortega! I've beaten one of the three men, and the other two; I'm not even tied with.
Ortega, we went down to that ring one time during the nCw run and I'm surprised to say that I... lost... Over there, I was pretty notorious for defeating any Hall of Famers that I stepped into the ring with. You named them, I was able to match them and beat them; for some reason, I just couldn't bring myself to beat anybody outside of the Hall of Fame, though, and that's why my career has been what the majority of the girls have said after one night with Brad Kane.
A disappointment.
I don't want to focus on the past, really, because we all know what IWF meant to everybody who signed their contract upon closure of nCw: A clean slate. A new chance. That means, Davey, that I have a second chance to step into the ring with you and a second chance to defeat you --- a chance to prove that I stand on the same ground as you.
Not many people are holding their breath with the true belief that I can walk out of Legacy as the Man of Steel Champion, especially since I'm the biggest underdog walking into the ring this Sunday! I mean, let's just take a quick look at everybody... The only competition I have for "biggest underdog" would probably be Ashley!
Ryan Blade is the champion.
Deathtrain has already been a contender for the Imperial Title.
Davey Ortega is a freakin' Hall of Famer.
What do I have to my name that tells these three I'm great? What do I have to my name that tells these people I deserve to stand in the ring with them? Oh, I guess the only thing that I can credit myself to is the will to keep fighting and refusal to give up --- I black out before I tap out!
That's why I have something to prove this Sunday. I have to prove that I may not be the most technical, I may not be the fastest person, I may not be the strongest person; but I'm the best all around... It's time for Dodgeball to take a seat, because a new underdog story is coming to life this Sunday.
I have my chance to beat Ryan Blade... I have my chance to beat Deathtrain... I have my chance to beat Davey Ortega.
And beat you... I will.
Beat you...
I...
Will..
