What’s happening to me?
I can’t sleep. I can’t think straight. I just….
What was that? At the end of the Den?
All those kids?
They sang about my….death?
I don’t understand it.
“WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON??!!!”
Jayson Matthews pounds the mirror he was gazing into. The bags under his eyes and the manic snarl on his lips made him feel like a different person and it scared him all over again. He quickly turns away from the mirror that was hung on the wall of his apartment. Maybe it was the stress, but he suddenly noticed how small his Chicago apartment was. He was having a hard time pacing back and forth and it only bothered him even more. He quickly grabbed his cell phone to try to call for comfort.
He rolls through his contact list but before he made a pick he gets an incoming FaceTime request, Rachel Grimes. Jayson quickly answers the call.
Jayson Matthews: H-Hello?
Rachel’s smiling face pops up on the screen. She has her journal pad in hand, ready to get the scoop.
Rachel Grimes: Hey Jay, It’s Rachel Grimes and-ooh-
Rachel notices that Jayson looks a little rough around the edges. Puffy eyes, more disheveled then normal, his normal smile seemed forced.
Rachel Grimes: You alright?
Jayson quickly nods his head.
Jayson Matthews: Oh yeah, absolutely. Yeah, I’m good. Totally good. Ummm, what’s up?
Rachel Grime: Uh, right. Yeah, I was just calling to get some words about the Den. You and Spike put on one hell of a battle in there.
Jayson wipes the sweat off his brow. He takes a deep breath and takes a seat.
Jayson Matthews: Yeah. You know all I wanted was a one on one match. I just wanted to meet Spike on his level, in his world. I got that inside the Dragons Den. I didn’t have to win it. I just wanted to get my shots in. Did I want to regain the Invictus Championship for a fourth time? Of course, but just getting that fight was enough of a prize for me.
Rachel nods her head on the screen.
Rachel Grimes: But as we all saw, you weren’t able to walk out of Metamorphosis as champion.
Jayson Matthews: Yeah well unfortunately for me, Spike is tougher then he looks and he genuinely tends to look pretty tough so you do the math. Maybe I’ll challenge him again in a year and see if I can get him.
Rachel Grimes: well let’s talk about what happened right before the end.
Jayson tenses up again.
Rachel Grimes: Those kids that we’re singing in the crowd? What was that? Some kind of Spike distraction?
Jayson slowly shakes his head.
Jayson Matthews: I don’t think Spike had anything to do with it, I really don’t know what it is. It’s umm...it’s uh…”
His voice starts to break as he tries to contain his emotions.
Jayson Matthews: It’s pretty scary Rachel.
His lip quivers.
Jayson Matthews: Something is coming for me…
His eyes well up.
Jayson Matthews: ...and I don’t know what it is…
Fade.
