The scene opens to Ronald and Frank in front of a Burger King.
Ronald: I really don't think this is what he meant.
Frank: Come on, he always says work smart not hard.
Frank gives him a pat on the back as he walks toward the fast food establishment. Ronald just hakes his head and walks away. Fade out and fading back in to Daveys office. The five of them are just entering, each with a different bag with a sandwich.
Davey: Finally, felt like a week.
Davey sits down at his desk and motions for them to walk up.
Davey: I hope you guys knocked it out of the park because I am in the mood for freshly sliced what the hell is that?
He asks pointing at Franks Burger King bag.
Frank: I went and got you a whopper.
Davey: Are you kidding me? I send you on the simplest of tasks and you bring me something that barely passes for food? Have you ever seen Preston walking into the casino holding a fast food bag? Ever? Hell for that matter have you ever seen a pizza delivery man? No. When I have a craving for pizza I go to an Italian chef who makes the best pizza pie in the state. I do not lower my standards unless I have absolutely no choice. This is blatant disrespect, what possessed you to do this?
Frank: You always said work smart not hard.
Davey: This isn't working smart this is just plain laziness. How dare you even suggest this is what a ''smart'' person would do. This is what lazy, fat, cheap people do who have no respect for themselves or they families they bring this slop home too. So here is what is in your immediate future. You are going to take that Grade D meat that you tried to serve me walk out the door and shovel it down wondering what just happened as you return to your work at the Craps table.
A stunned Frank slowly turns around reaching into the bag as he walks out of the office and down the hall, Davey just shakes his head.
Davey: For the love of Charlie Sheen please tell me one of you accomplished your goal.
Female: I think you will enjoy this.
She sits down a bag with the end of the sandwich sticking out. Davey cocks his head tot he side ever so slightly as he pulls it out unwrapping the foil. He picks up half of the monstrous Grinder and takes a bit. Slowly he chews, enjoying every bit. The woman smiles as she sees the reaction.
Female: I know a place around the corner, kept it simple. Basic Club with mayonnaise.
Davey looks at her with a smile, swallowing his food.
Davey: Cassidy...I secretly hoped you would win. Congratulations, you win the sandwich round.
Ronald: You haven't even had any of ours yet! How can you possibly know hers is the best?!
Davey: Excuse me, I'm eating. It's rude to expect someone with a mouthful of awesome to answer stupid questions.
Ronald: It's not a stupid question, at this point I would say it is what three of us are thinking.
Davey sighs
Davey: How much did you pay for that sandwich you are holding?
Ronald: Twenty dollars.
Davey: Twenty dollars?! Well look at you trying to please the Queen of England. Cas how much did you spend on this delicious creation I have before me?
Cassidy: Twelve ninety five.
Davey looks over to Ronald.
Davey: You lose by cost alone. As the winner she gets immunity, and since I already fired one of you I guess the whole game comes around full circle. Ding, Round Two. This challenge is something my confidant has to be very diligent about as it pertains to majority of his or her job. So right now purely off the top of your heads tell me something that I should take notice in IWF.
Ronald: Trent Helms made his in ring debut. He won but he didn't have anything in the way of competition. I bring this to your attention because an active Trent Helms behind the desk is much more dangerous not too mention unpredictable. Especially too some who has a unique history with him.
Ronald rubs his ribs and Davey smiles the sick smile as he leans in his chair recalling an event that he had a front row seat too. He then looks at Cassidy.
Cassidy: InFamous has two teams to deal with at Legacy. The odds of a new team walking away with the gold have enhanced greatly. The sooner Spike Kane loses his title management will stop hindering your plans to draw his blood. As long as InFamous are the champions they will never sign off on Ortega Vs Kane. Chances are high neither of you could walk out if you two went another round, especially in the sick match you want. So if they lose this match, you will be one step closer.
Davey is no longer sporting a smile and slowly turns to William.
William: Sure, they take the easy ones. Um...Ana Valentine has signed with IWF...
Davey: Really?
William nods his head and Davey makes the ''huh, didn't know that look'' and turns to the jumpy one.
Jumpy: Lex Sense and Xander Famularo are hell bent on rebuilding IWF on their image. Their words exactly. Now if anyone fits the bill on ''their'' image it's you. They spoke of weak champions not only in their respective divisions but in others. Now you may be many things but a man who spends five years alone with deep hatred and survives, well that man is not weak. When you emerge victorious in the first ever Maximum Endurance match with the Man of Steel belt clutched in your hands they will take notice. And nothing gets a match with Spike Kane faster than the endorsement of both Imperial and World Heaveyweight Champion. Even if he is a champ.
Cassidy looks over with a snide look as Davey has a very impressed look on his face. He leans into his chair eyeing the five.
Davey: I am honestly impressed by all of you. Even you William, I honestly did not know Ana had joined. Well, when I get the chart out you will have gold stars next too your names. Now do something for The Casino and I and go check my mail. And do some shopping, I'm out of Swiss cheese for Darwins sake.
Ronald: Aren't you going to fire one of us?
Davey: Why? All of you did very well in the challenge, so much that it has spilled over to the mail getting and shopping going portion of the job. A-llonsy.
The final four head out, the three losers with sandwich bags in hand. They leave the questionably sane Genius to his solitude.
Davey: They are good...
Not as good as Me.
Davey turns to the source of the voice he is certain he heard. Only to see the familiar book case. He just glares at it...
Davey: You were a mistake, created from an obsession.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Endurance. The dictionary defines it as ''the ability or strength to continue or last, especially despite fatigue, stress, or other adverse conditions.'' Now putting that in perspective of the Maximum Endurance match it should carry weight. The one man who perseveres, and no I'm not defining that word for you. It's not my fault you don't have a grasp of the English language. The man who perseveres and walks out of Legacy holding the Man of Steel title will make history. This match has the potential to not only be a career defining match but a Legacy staple. The first man to walk out of the first Maximum Endurance match will forever be regarded as THE Man of Steel. To be involved in an inaugural match is an honor, but to win one? That is what legends are made of. As I cast my gaze at my three opponents only one question crosses my mind. Do they have it? Can a red hot champion solidify his dominance of this division? Can a rookie shock IWF? Can a gamer finally achieve the respect he so desperately seeks?
No. No. and Hell No. All of you are driven for a different reason, and I know you all want to permanently place your names in the stars. Well I seek more than that. I seek beyond petty recognition, I'm after more, I look for reverence. In order to get what I want I have a lofty challenge that I must overcome. I am entering the land if giants as the lone representative of the crusier weight division. I have to enter the ring with with a man who outweighs me by 95 pounds, and what's worse is that he is a complete unknown to me. Well, almost. You see Deathtrain...and...for the sake of your dignity I'm not going to point out all the things wrong with your name. Everybody gets one of those. Though I may not know you personally I am willing believe that two things about you. My life is much better with out your presence in it, and I know your type. I know your style, nothing unique every company has a carbon copy of you. You think you can push people around because you squat 350, press 400, and the rest of the tune.
You see I have a creed and it applies to you the most. I prefer brains over brawn. All you can do in that ring is throw punches and let out a barbaric battle cry because that's what you are. There is no finesse in your moves, no elegance in your performance. You're no threat, you are JackHammer 2.0. Someone who will fade off as mysteriously as he came.
Speaking of no threat Seth Evans you have been...well you've been around haven't you? When we first met in the ring all those months ago I honestly thought I had dealt with you in one shot. I thought I had showed you as plain as day that you were not in my league. That it didn't matter how many HoF members you had pinned because I'm going to let you in on a little secret, they are not in my league either. Yet here you are, foolishly standing in my way with the stupid boyish green on your lips and the highest of hopes in your eyes. Pity, I honestly thought you were smarter then that, I took that incredible leap of faith on you and as half expected you proved me wrong. Did you even ask? When Robert Quinn walked up to you and gave you this opportunity did you even ask who is two other picks were? Or did you just say yes with those stars in your eyes, thinking that thought ''This is it, this is my time''? Well if you did my first question is why do you still believe that thought and my second is did you ever consider the possibility that RQ put you in this match not because he believes in you, but because he just needed someone, anyone would do really and with Everyman being the Imperial Champion he chose his understudy. I know right..? Mind Blown. Then have the flip side, you did ask and he dropped my name. Didn't you remember right off the bat, I leave a pretty strong first impression. So yes, I am surprised you are here if you knew and had the option to say no.
I need you to know something, because I honestly didn't think I would ever get a chance to tell you this. Ignorance is bliss after all. Seth I don't respect you as a wrestler. I touched on this briefly last week and glad I get to expand on this, I don't see you as a threat in this match. I want you to understand that, I don't see you as a professional wrestler I see you as a professional gamer. Who do you think you are? That ring is where I practice my craft. When I am out there I am one hundred percent focused on raising the bar for all matches after me, to be the show stealer and make people remember what they just saw. Because all of that furthers MY goals and ambitions and no gamer is going to stand in the way of my redemption. This Sunday I am going too add to the list of disappointments in your life when I walk out of Legacy as the newly crowned Man of Steel Champion. That championship deserves a better class of endurance, it deserves a man who can go the distance, and that doesn't include waiting for a decent Halo game. If there was a title for that you would be the undefeated champ. And hey there just might be that fictional title, with fictional contenders. Because that's what you are to me, Seth...a fictional contender.
Nothing like the man with the biggest target on his back, the real...the incomprehensible Ryan Blade. Or at least that is what everyone around me says, including his biggest supporter...Ryan Blade. I'm not going to say last week was a fluke, or that I slipped on a banana peel or any other non sense. I lost, you pinned me to the ground one two three and the funny thing you is you think I let it bother me. I don't see it as the green rookie beating the seasoned veteran, I see it as losing to the Man of Steel Champion. Like many before me, and I hold no shame in that fact. Losing to a formidable opponent is a lot better than losing to Seth Evans, not that either of us would know what that shame is like. You see Ryan I respect you, I do. I respect you a hell of a lot more than I do most people in the back. Though there is this idea of you that you are projecting, you think you are truly invincible. That no matter what the odds The Man of Steel will emerge like the victorious like the Superman of old. Well, even Superman had a weakness. Also believe it or not I am not referring to Kryptonite
I'll give you a hint...genius billionaire. Alright so I'm not a billionaire but hey, I'm closer than you. Just like Batman I am ever adapting, I'm ever evolving. I feel myself thinking clearer and clearer everyday and everyday I set myself apart from the rest of humanity. I feel myself evolving into something...better. I know I can beat you, Ryan...because now I am familiar with who you are in the ring, I can adapt my strategy to adjust to your movements, and I will make you submit. I honestly hope that it comes down to you and me just so you know who you are tapping out too. Like I said last week I will drill in the undeniable fact that I have your number. Nothing will prove that more than when I am on the ramp way looking at you, as you come to the realization that yes you have lost, yes it is now my title...and yes...
There is the rest of the roster
There is Spike Kane
There is Trent Helms
And then...there is Davey Ortega.
I'll see you there, A-llonsy bitches.
Ronald: I really don't think this is what he meant.
