Both hands rest on a trainers table, as a one hand is slowly wrapped, turned over we see a faded scar, almost a perfect circle in the center of the palm, the other hand is flipped over, wrapped, the same scar in palm rests on the opposite side. Slapping his hands on the table, we see Xavier Cross flexing his fingers a bit before stepping out. A man wearing athletic shorts, and a sports polo eyes him up and down for a moment.
Xavier Cross: "I've stayed in shape, but this is the first time in a while that I've been able to step in a ring Coach..."
Coach: "Well, your neurologists have cleared you, your Impact test are great...so we're gonna have you take a few bumps, run the ropes. Rookie stuff, but you ain't ready to hang it up, we want to make sure that you can compete."
Xavier Cross: "Gotta earn that contract right?"
Cross chuckles a bit as he starts jogging around a IWF training facility ring. Throwing a few shadow boxing punches as he goes.
Xavier Cross: "Honestly, I haven't felt this great in a while, I've had time to rest, to heal...I mean, my back is still giving me issues, but I don't think there isn't anyone in this business that wakes up sore and stiff..."
Coach: "You're right, wrestling isn't a sport for people who can't endure it. Though I think your new lady friend may have something to do with your good mood."
Xavier blushes a bit, as he keeps jogging, picking his pace up a bit.
Xavier Cross: "I have no idea what you mean, I'm always positive, I don't think I've ever been brooding, or...okay, well that's a lie...is it that obvious?"
Coach: "Well you know how people talk, the hallways are essentially a highschool, but it's been good to see you in a better mood than usual."
Xavier Cross: "If you only knew the half of it, you wouldn't be making me take bumps..."
Cross chuckles a bit, as he keeps jogging a bit.
Coach: "So, have you told her you're gonna step back in the ring?"
Xavier Cross: "Honest...I haven't told anyone, I just...I feel like I got so much more to do...And, sitting at home, watching sacrifice, and the pay per views...watching these guys....How could you not want to be an Imperial Athlete?! This is some of the best competition I've seen in years, why wouldn't I want to throw myself in the ring, and see what kind of magic we can make?"
Coach: "That's true, the talent hasn't been at this level, that I can ever remember. This is the kind of place that you can have dream matches weekly, you can have those matches that the next generation go, 'Yeah, I watched these two go at it, and I just knew, I had to do it."
Xavier Cross: "I'm proud of my career, I've never been a top guy, I've never been a world champion. But I think I've made a lot of fans have memories, and in retrospect, is there anything more important to a legacy, to be remembered, that parents will introduce kids to wrestling, maybe they'll show 'em some of my stuff?"
Coach: "I remember watching your tapes from the indies, you were just a guy who could jump off things, a spot monkey for sure, willing to just do brutal things for the sake of doing it..."
Xavier Cross: "Anything to stand out...I had to get the big attention, to get to NCW, to get to Imperial....I had to bleed, and break myself to sign a contract of blood. That's what it takes to stand in that ring, knowing you've given up everything your body can handle to compete against someone who has done just the same..."
Coach: "Get in that ring, I'm getting tired of listening to old stories, let's get you back as soon as possible."
Cross slows down, before sliding under the bottom rope into the ring, charging immediately into the ropes as we fade out.
Fading back in, Cross is panting heavily, his body a little red, his hair wrapped up in a pony tail, drinking from a bottle of water. Hearing a faucet cut off, he grabs his cell phone, texting away furiously.
Xavier Cross: "Fuckin, ice baths...Makes me willy all tiny and stuff..."
Vivienne Rodgers: "Language!"
Cross's ears perk a bit, as he initial shrugs it off as he slides into the ice bath, shaking his head a bit, glancing up wincing a bit at the icy feeling shoots up his back, as he glances up seeing Viv standing in front of him, arms crossed, head tilted. Leaping out of the bath, he glances around.
Xavier Cross: "It's not what it looks like! I swear!"
Vivienne Rodgers: "What? You're taking an ice bath at the training facility because?"
Xavier Cross: "Because...your roommate used all the cold water?"
Vivienne Rodgers: "Wait, is that a thi-...oh no Mister, you are not getting out of this one!"
Xavier Cross: "Okay...okay, I came here because...I have been seeing neurologists across the country, and I have just a little risk of a serious injury, its not as bad as we thought...and I passed my impact test a few hours ago...and..."
Vivienne Rodgers: "Why didn't you tell me?"
Xavier looks down a bit, scratching the back of his head.
Xavier Cross: "Because...I ain't a doctor, I know my body feels great, but...is it great? I didn't want to tell anyone because, I thought...what if I couldn't do it, what if I was told I needed to retire...permanently...I just didn't want to disappoint you..."
She steps slowly towards him, kissing his forehead, before resting her head against his.
Vivienne Rodgers: "You are a sweet and dumb man you know that? You really think I'd be disappointed? I'd be sad...of course, but I'm gonna support you no matter what...So, you are cleared?"
Xavier Cross: "Not...quite..."
He lifts his head up, smiling at her, this woman, this incredible angel of a woman standing in front of him.
Vivienne Rodgers: "Well then, get back in that ice bath mister!"
He goes in to steal a kiss, but she puts a hand on his chest.
Vivienne Rodgers: "Oh...no...no no sir! You are still in trouble, and cold and wet...Nope, but when you get back to my place, you are gonna be in soooo much trouble..."
Even when she is threatening him, she was so bubbly and adorable. It was hard to take her serious sometimes, but it was a new feeling for him, something he hadn't felt in years. He didn't ever wanna look away, he didn't ever wanna hear anything other than her voice. He smiled softly.
Xavier Cross: "...by chance you didn't bring that Unicorn robe did you?"
Shaking her head, a soft giggle escapes her lips as she rubs her brow.
Vivienne Rodgers: "Whatever am I going to do with you Mister Cross..."
He takes another step forward, grinning a bit.
Xavier Cross: "Whatever you want baby girl..."
A sly smile plays on his lips, as she sticks her hand in the tub, throwing water at him. His face is shocked as his body tenses up.
Xavier Cross: "Oh...you did not..."
Vivienne smiles a bit, as a look of playful fear goes across her face as Xavier has grabbed a bag of ice, as she sprints out of the training room, Cross gives chase after her, slipping a bit he loses his footing as the bag of ice flies into the air, sending cubes of frozen water everywhere as he hits the ground with a thud. Coach is standing over him.
Coach: "XAVIER CROSS!"
Xavier Cross: "I've stayed in shape, but this is the first time in a while that I've been able to step in a ring Coach..."
