"Everybody in the morning
Should do a good turn all right
Everybody in the night time
Should have a good time all night
Now we got a movement
Don't shun it - fun it
Can't you see now you're moving free?
Get some fun join our dynasty
Can't you tell when we get it down?
You're the one you're the best in town..."
With the morning gambling crowd coming into the Circus Circus casino, we find Fiona McFly and her ex-girlfriend Angie Johnson staring at each other. Even in a place where there was no difference between day and night, the vibes between the pair felt increasingly uncomfortable with every second that ticked. Their eyes made direct contact with one another, eliciting mental flashbacks to one of the more turbulent periods of Fiona's life.
ANGIE JOHNSON:
You look like you’re gonna punch me, right?
Fiona nodded, thinking quite little of Angie given the last time they saw each other. It was at bachelorette party in May of last year that the univited former volleyball standout crashed the gates and caused quite the scene by attacking her former flame out of spite.
ANGIE:
To be honest with you, you’ve got every right to just lay into me after what I did to you on your biggest night. I was…
Angie paused, expecting Fiona to take a swipe at her--but she didn't, opting instead of listen to what was being said.
ANGIE:
Truth be told, I was messed up--even long before you and I started roomin’ together in college. I was into some really deep, dark stuff--heroin and crack to be exact--and when you mix that addiction with booze, your head just does things that ain’t human at all. I tried to bring that crud into your life...
Fiona's brows perked up, then she politely cut her off...
FIONA:
No, I won’t hit you...that’s not me, that’s not who I am. I just...I didn't know how bad your addiction really was.
...Angie nodded solemnly, not even realising that Fiona had taken the high road after all this time.
ANGIE:
Look, I’m really sorry to hear about Jack. I figured he was…quite a cool guy to be around. I was at that tribute concert they did in his memory--field level, back row. God, you’ve got pipes that bring grown men to tears, and that Gilmore dude? For a guy with a scruffy look, he can sure ham things up on a stage and put a spin on “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
FIONA:
(chuckling)
He stole the show that night in so many ways.
ANGIE:
Well a month after the scene I made at your bachelorette party, I called Jack personally and apologized ‘cuz, like I told ya earlier, I let drugs and booze run my life for the longest time. He got me the help I needed, he got me to participate in this national Christian-based recovery program. It was hard to kick the habit, really hard at first--but I've been clean and sober goin’ on six months.
Fiona's smile surfaceed, then grew wider with each passing second. She had witnessed firsthand how her late husband's own alcohol problems adversely affected them after high school graduation; yet it made her feel very good on the inside, knowing that Jack's legacy of helping others went way beyond the scope of wrestling itself.
FIONA:
I’m delighted to hear that. How can you manage to stay that way whilst working in the casino, with all the bars, pubs, whatnot…?
ANGIE:
Ridin’ roller coasters at the Adventuredome...thinkin’ how the ups, downs, loops and corkscrews I went through in the past helped shape me now.
Both women laughed out loud as several female gamblers approached the table, prompting Angie to put her cards in the automatic shuffler.
ANGIE:
Tell ya what...play a couple of hands, my shift is supposed to end in thirty minutes. I’m quite sure that there is more that needs to be discussed…
Fiona nodded as the first blackgame game got underway. She knew that there was gonna be more to talk about with Angie, but as the old adage goes--what's said in the casino should stay there.
Or will it?!
"Groove on out groove on up OK
Do your thing do your thing your way
Get you kicks get your tricks with me
Get up and dance honey fun's for free
Hey everybody everybody gonna have a good time tonight
Just shaking the soles of your feet
Everybody everybody gonna have a good time tonight
That's the only sole you'll ever meet..."
