Part II
“PRIMO TESTIMONII COMEDENT”
Back in the spiritual realm…
The world around Fiona McFly, as she slept one night, suddenly went dark, as if all linear time had come to a halt.
FIONA MCFLY:
What the bloody hell…!?!
She found herself inside the packed cafetorium at Arlington High School, standing behind the railing overlooking the various sections. There were three top sections, a middle section shaped into a horseshoe, and a lower bowl known as”the pit.” It was a carnival-like atmosphere full of sight and sound, a cacophony of noise as students of various classes, split into three lunch periods, talk about the day’s issues.
FIONA:
What is this place!? This doesn’t look like fifteen years ago...
Dr. Jessica Franklin, her spiritual counselor, nodded her head.
DR. JESSICA FRANKLIN:
This is the tapestry that is your consciousness--your memories so to speak; think of me...as a guide of sorts. In this realm, we can only see people from the past and not talk to them, for we are just observers in this realm.
Fiona nodded, then gazed her eyes upon a digital sign hanging from the ceiling that showed periodic announcements regarding school events. Eventually, she saw a brief bulletin on the upcoming Colt football ryouts…
“COLT FOOTBALL TRYOUTS + IN FIVE WEEKS!!!”
...followed by the date, time, and current temperature.
“JAN. 16, 1998 + 12:10 PM + 44F”
Her gaze panned down from the sign towards a sight that she couldn’t even recognise right away. She spotted a strange figure in a blue blouse strolling out of the salad bar line, carrying a tray consisting of a fresh fruit salad and a bottle of iced tea. Yet upon closer inspection, Fiona began to realise just who this girl was.
FIONA:
This was ME from twenty-one years ago!
The 2018 Fiona watched intently as her younger self accidentally rammed the side of her lunch tray against a rather athletic-looking freshman with spiky-black hair just as he was about to take a seat, causing his can of Coca-Cola to spill all over the cut outfit she had worn at the time. She paused for a moment, then chuckled as the young gent helped get the then-blonde-headed gal cleaned up with several paper towels.
FIONA:
This was the day...I met the man that would be me husband for the very first time.
Dr. Franklin chuckled, observing as the younger version of Jack Gaither invited the then-plucky Northern Irishgirl to sit at the table with him and have a simple chat that would change the course of their lives forever. This was a good memory in Fiona’s mind, a part of her life that is still fondly recalled to this very day. Yet just before the two “observers” left the cafetorium, a sharp, cold gust of wind began coursing through Fiona’s body, the presence of the demon “Caligula” being very prevalent as everything around her went dark.
Indeed, it was the wrong memory.
