Chapter I
“WHAT LIES WITHIN”
Fiona McFly looked like absolute shit.
Her hair was frazzled, her face completely pale.
The day was rather cold and damp, and Fiona had woken up from what felt like an eternal sleep. After traveling all over the Far East, all she could do was sleep and sleep--as if she hadn’t slept in years. Yet the experience wasn’t pleasant to her mind, as the mysterious female voice from a vision she had was calling into her consciousness.
”Can you hear me, Fiona…?”
She nodded slightly, unaware of a sharp pounding on her bedroom door.
”Can you sense my thoughts…?”
Fiona sighed, nodding once more as she gazed at her mirror in a trance-like state, haunted by the movie trailer-esque experience she had. Another loud knock at the door, however, snapped her out of her meditative state...
FIONA MCFLY:
Come in…
...her raspy voice meekly commanded her half-brother, Luke Kimble, to open the door and peek his head in for a second before he cautiously stepped inside. It had been at least 48 hours since the revelation broke, leaving Fiona completely out of her own element and into a confused mental state she had only been in one other time--the day of her husband Jack’s passing.
LUKE KIMBLE:
Are you alright…?
FIONA:
I…I do not know…
She stood there, looking at the mirror with a conflicted expression. Her first thoughts were on Debbie--her future self--and the incident that took place the day before.
FIONA:
Where is Debbie? Is she safe?
LUKE:
Debbie...she’s back where she belongs, under the strictest house arrest in her own time. She will never, ever return to corrupt your mind again. However, I wouldn’t celebrate yet. There will be others waiting in the wings to influence you in a negative manner...
Fiona shook her head solemnly, her visage haggard from all of the travel she had undertaken.
LUKE:
You look like hell, like you just had a nasty detour through Kabuki-cho.
FIONA:
I had….I don’t know what I had. It wasn’t like any good dream or horrid nightmare I’ve had before. It felt like a freaky detour, but…
She paused, licking her lips and trying to figure out what to say.
LUKE:
But what…?!
But Fiona found herself unable to say anything at all. The vision she had has, without question, made her question her own sense of sanity. The voice continued to dron in her head...
“Good must challenge.
Evil must prevail.
Balance is the key.”
...taking Fiona aback. For years, she had striven to fight for what was good, but...she had no idea on how to express that. Her deepest impulse was to ensure that she was better than anyone else, but at this very moment in time, she had no sense of balance.
No sense of direction.
LUKE:
Well whenever you’re ready, I’ll be waiting outside for you. We have…things...to discuss.
Fiona closed her eyes and took a deep breath, bowing her head as the mysterious voice beckoned once more. Without saying a word, she went into her walk-in closet and grabbed a change of clothes, the voice’s tone beckoning her to talk to her half-brother--and giving her a small sampling of what is to come.
”To those who are closest to you, you must speak.
Beyond your own realm of understanding, you must look.
To places where angels or demons fear to tread, you must go.
Untapped potential, you will find.
Until that day comes, she MUST win...”
