Wrestler's Name: Astrid Hall
Nickname: The Valkyrie
Gimmick: Loud, boisterous and proud Norsewoman who loves a good fight, living by the Asatruar values of courage, honor and self-reliance. She is as quick to smile and laugh as she is to charge into battle, celebrating her victories with her comrades with drink and song. She proudly and openly follows old Norse Paganism, rarely seen without at least silver hammer amulet, her body decorated with numerous tattoos of various runes. She has often said that she feels very much like a woman out of time, seeing herself as more as a Viking Shieldmaiden than a modern woman. As such, she sees the existence of a Shieldmaiden belt in the IWF is a direct challenge, and will relentlessly pursue that belt with little to no interest in holding the Diamonds Championship.
Though she parties hard, fights hard, and lives much of her life in the greatest of extremes, she is a kind woman at heart. She volunteers at many Renaissance faires across the United States and in her home country of Norway, largely to make a point to show the little girls who attend them that they can be the knight who slays the dragon, not just the princess in the tower. No matter how much she loves fighting, drinking and singing, nothing in the world will inspire so wide a smile on her face as the starry-eyed joy of the children she entertains.
Astrid is a familiar face in the IWF Developmental Promotion, where she has been a crowd-pleaser for around a year. Star pupil of now full-time trainer Emma Danielson, Astrid held the Developmental Promotion’s unofficial women’s title for eight months before losing it at the non-televised event the night before Danger Zone. She hasn’t made an appearance since that match, and there’s significant buzz that she may be making her main roster debut shortly after High Stakes. Rumor has it that Emma may step back slightly from the training center to take the role of Astrid’s Manager.
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 185 lbs.
Place of Birth: Trondheim, Norway
Alignment: If she was any more Face, she’d be Mrs. Pac-Man.
Pic Base: Katheryn Winnick as Lagertha from “Vikings”
Appearance/Attire: Astrid is a tall, muscular woman with bright blue eyes and golden hair tied into a braid that reaches halfway down her back. In the ring, she wears attire a of mixed black leather and navy-blue nylon pleated war skirt, A leather reinforced front-laced sports bra emblazoned with several nordic symbols as well as leather bracers, boots and elbow pads. For her entrance, she also wears a long black and navy blue hooded, sleeveless coat. Finally, she always enters the ring with a smear of blood-red war paint across her cheeks and the bridge of her nose.
Theme Music: Phoenix, Fall Out Boy
Entrance: {The lights dim as the arena begins to pulse with a driving drumbeat that the audience quickly joins in with, sending reverberating pulses through the building. After a few moments, the drums are joined by the driving strings line of Fall Out Boy's Phoenix as a spotlight shines down on Astrid Hall, standing amidst the crowd as she looks down at the ring with an eager smile.}
"PUT ON YOUR WAR PAINT!"
{On cue, she smears the red paint across her face and descends to the ring, bouncing with excitement with every step. She leaps up onto the the apron and climbs the turnbuckle, raising one fist in the air and pumping it along with the beat of the song. After removing her coat and tossing it to ringside, she vaults over the turnbuckle into the ring, where she cracks her knuckles and settles in for the coming match.}
Special Entrance: {Forthcoming}
Primary Style: Power
Secondary Style: Brawler
Other Style: Technical
Strengths
Juggernaut: Tautological as it sounds, Astrid is an absolute powerhouse. She brings a level of raw strength and toughness to her matches that very few can match. On a level of sheer physicality, she is stronger and tougher than most anyone would expect.
Laughing in the Dragon’s Face: Astrid just can’t be intimidated. Why does a warrior-born fear battle? Even the most seemingly supernatural threats are just dragons to be slain, and she will fight them with a giddy smile on her face.
Melee specialty: While Astrid is a very capable wrestler, her initial training was with melee weapons rather than brawling. While many wrestlers can be said to be more dangerous with a weapon, she’s been training in swordsmanship since she was nine. As such, if she gets her hands on a kendo stick, baseball bat, or similar melee weapon, there are very few who can stand against her.
Fast Recovery: As if her strength and endurance wasn’t enough to already make her damn near a freak of nature, Astrid just… recovers faster than any human should have the right to. Suffers an injury that the doctors say will put her out for four months? Two weeks later she’s back in the ring fighting as though nothing happened, leaving the medical staff shaking their heads in bewilderment.
Weaknesses
Honor: Astrid will never cheat, never take cheap shots, never do anything that might turn her heel. She would sooner lose a match than disappoint her fans by changing who she is and fighting without honor. Further, a dastardly heel could easily manipulate her by threatening the innocent or defenseless.
Laughing. In the DRAGON’S. FACE: Astrid’s “never-say-die” attitude and unwillingness to be intimidated can easily lead her to underestimate an opponent, and her approach to battle can easily anger the more villainous members of the roster.
Loud Mouth: Astrid is really good at pissing people off with her boasts, and her talk of her capabilities as a warrior have the potential to get her into trouble, especially given her willingness to accept a battle regardless of the odds. Handicap match of her Vs. the entire Diamonds division? Bring it on! It will be a battle worthy of song and glory!
