Reports within the IWF have confirmed this morning that Ciara O'Connor, a long midcard staple of the company's women's division and key member of the faction known as the "Best Friends Club", suffered a serious neck injury this week in her match against recently returned superstar Astrid Hall on the most recent episode of the fan favorite 'Open Fight Night' event.
The injury appears to have occurred at the very end of the match when Ciara was hit by a move that targets the opponents' neck. O'Connor has a bad history with neck injuries, with one having nearly ended her in-ring career several years ago before she was a member of the Imperial Wrestling Federation. While the company's medical personnel have not commented on the full extent of O'Connor's injuries, Jess Fowler is quoted as having advised fans not to expect to see O'Connor in the ring "any time soon." Sources within the department who asked to remain nameless indicated that the impact may have re-aggravated the old injury, and that it's possible - though they would not confirm - that Ciara's in-ring career may be over for good.
O'Connor and the other members of the Best Friends Club were unavailable for comment, as was Astrid Hall herself. At this point it is unclear if the injury was accidental or deliberate - while Hall has been praised by many in the back as a staunch professional, her bad blood with the Best Friends Club is extremely well known, and some believe that she may have put a little more power into the move in question than was absolutely necessary in retribution for actions that the faction - and particularly O'Connor herself - have taken in the last year.
Whatever the truth behind it, we here at IWF.com wish O'Connor the best of luck and safe and speedy recovery.
