The door hisses closed, as Xavier and Dean stand there for a moment, as Xavier glances around, still enamored with the sheer size of the ship. The two make their way back up to the bridge, getting to the elevator.
Xavier Cross: “This is just...incredible…”
Dean Harper: “And you’ve only seen a little bit of it, after debrief, take some time to explore it. You’ll probably need to get acquainted with our alliance requisition officer. She’s a lovely thing, of course, if you want to spend the right amount of credits. There’s a Volus on board, just to manage our finances, has a few friends on the black market.”
Shaking his head, Xavier isn’t surprised at all at this point. His eye twitching slightly.
Dean Harper: “Out here, we need every advantage we can get. Fighting the Geth…”
Xavier Cross: “It’s never just one thing. Batarians...Geth...Gangs, slavers, mercs...It seems whenever we take a step forward, we just end up finding more ways to be violent with each other.”
Dean Harper: “Poetic sweetheart…”
The Drell studies the human for a moment, as the elevator stops at their destination. Everyone is seated around the Galaxy Map, where Rowan stands using her omni-tool to pull up a specific set of coordinates.
Commander Rowan: “Take a seat…”
Cross looks around, immediately he feels like a kid on his first day of school as he quickly takes a seat next to Caleb. Who sniffs the air, looking a bit perplexed, well as much as a Krogan can.
Caleb Lockwood: “You haven’t pissed yourself yet, we’ll have to change that.”
Xavier gives him what can only be described as the most impolite smile ever.
Commander Rowan: “As most of you have heard, the galaxy lost it’s best Boy Scout today, Commander Shepard. Which means that we have to pick up the slack since the Alliance lost their….second best vessel and their second-best commander. Our first course of action is to investigate the coordinates where his ship was destroyed. His crew has been picked up by Council forces and will be debriefed, hopefully, we’ll get some answers there. Until then, I want everyone on their A-Game. The Normandy is a fantastic vessel, and for it to be taken down so easily means the Geth have something nasty out there.”
Dean Harper: “This sounds like a spectre type issue, why are we headed out there? Not that I’m complaining.”
Commander Rowan: “Anderson is pulling rank on this, Shepard was a valuable political chip in the Human’s council plans, and for the first human spectre to be killed in action, the great hero of the citadel and all those fancy titles. This is a human issue, an alliance issue…”
Xavier Cross: “This could be a test for you? I mean, there is a Spectre opening….”
Rowan’s lips twist into a smile.
Commander Rowan: “Too soon Kid…”
Xavier puts his head down, as Caleb chuckles in only a way a Krogan can, deep and sarcastic.
Dean Harper: “Sweetheart does have a point, not to say we don’t already act without permission and reprocussions, but you’d be an excellent Spectre.”
Commander Rowan: “Well, you know I don’t like to keep secrets from my crew...Anderson said the Council is going to be paying extra close attention to how we handle this issue.”
Xavier looks a bit shocked, Rowan filt the exact mold for what Spectre’s are, but how loose can a cannon be.
Commander Rowan: “However, we don’t play hero, and we don’t diverge from what we are. I don’t want anyone getting any ridiculous notions in their heads that they have to go above and beyond for me to get a promotion...I’ll earn it on my own damn merit. So I expect you all to fall in line.”
She glances over at Xavier.
Commander Rowan: “Especially you newbie.”
Xavier gave a weak smile.
Xavier Cross: “Oh, Newbie...a promotion…”
A lifeless chuckle escapes his lips.
Commander Rowan: “After we get this mess sorted out, we are going to be taking a detour. Caleb has hit the ripe prime age of 399, and it’s time we finally get his whole Clan situation sorted out. So we’re headed to Tuckanka.”
Caleb Lockwood: “We have more important things to worry about…”
Commander Rowan: “Nonsense, you are important…”
Xavier noticed something in Rowan’s eye at that moment, she looked like a mother. It sort of filled the nervousness with a sense of warmth. It felt strange in the short time he knew these people, but something was telling him this was more to just the rumors.
Caleb doesn’t argue, he just nods.
Commander Rowan: “And dismissed.”
Xavier turns to Caleb.
Xavier Cross: “So...a rite of passage ordeal?”
Caleb looks at Xavier, as though he was an ant.
Caleb Lockwood: “...What do you care?”
Xavier Cross: “...I don’t know if I do care Caleb, I know your name, and that you have just the best sense of humor…”
Groaning a bit, Caleb induldges him.
Caleb Lockwood: “I’ll spare you the details, we land on that death rock, argue with some morons, kill some things, and I become an adult.”
Xavier Cross: “Mazel Tov…”
Caleb Lockwood: “What’d you say to me?”
Xavier Cross: “It’s a...nevermind...Wait did you say Death Rock?”
Caleb Lockwood: “After what the Krogan did to each other, and how the Salarians neutered my people. It’s nothing but a useless flying rock, with death...You know, where people die?”
The sarcasm was noted.
Xavier Cross: “Well, I’ve been on vacation for a while...it’ll be nice to shoot at things.”
And for a second, Xavier thought he saw Caleb smile.
Caleb Lockwood: “Just don’t get left behind…”
The krogan stands up, leaving Xavier sitting there for a moment.
Dean Harper: “He likes you.”
Xavier Cross: “What makes you say that?”
Dean Harper: “He vaguely insulted you instead of just knocking you out…”
Warren Kane: “I just don’t get why we need him here…”
Looking up, he sees Warren making his way towards Dean and himself, glaring at Xavier.
Dean Harper: “A request from an old friend of the Commander’s mostly. Plus, if you read his Dossier, he’ll be a fine addition to the squad. In fact, he almost got the drop on me…”
Dean winks at Xavier who blushes a bit, which only seems to make Warren seethe even more.
Warren Kane: “Well, I’ll put it bluntly. I don’t like you, I don’t trust you, and if you make one false move to jeopardize any of my family. I’ll kill you myself.”
Xavier Cross: “Don’t make promises you can’t keep Turian…”
Tensions boiled over, as Cross hopped to his feet and took a step towards Warren. But Dean immediately hopped in the middle, as suddenly Xavier and Warren go stiff as a board.
Dean Harper: “Alright boys, since we can’t play nice, you’re both in time out. If either of you acts out again, I’ll borrow a t-shirt from Caleb and make you both wear it together. Krogan sizes are just lovely for this kind of punishment.”
Dean gives both a light shove into a seat, as they’re both still stunned, glaring at one another. Dean shakes his head, before walking off to join the Commander on the pilot’s deck. The ship begins to move, as the engine begins whirling before followed by silence. Stealth technology was incredible.
The Cannae made it’s way to the Mass Effect Relay, basically, it was what you wish the interstate was on your early commute to work. Engaging the FTL drive (Faster Than Light) the ship was able to punch in their coordinators, and within seconds they were taken to the nearest Mass Effect Relay to their destination. But what no one could have guessed, would change the shape of their mission all together….
