TYLER TALKS
PREVIEW
MEDIOCRE CANADIAN BASH
Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the long awaited return of Tyler Talks, and we’re back with a kick ass edition of Tyler Talks: Preview as we look towards Mediocre Canadian Bash. The name chosen by the people as a part of IWF’s annual viewers choice pay per view event. Of course, looking at the card, the show looks anything but Mediocre but does take place in the Great White North. A country well known and respected for it’s wrestling heritage, but enough chit chat, let’s get down to the nitty gritty.
VIEWER’S CHOICE
ANGEL BLAKE VS NIGHTHAWK
This one is one of those matches that really blindsides you, you don’t see it coming, but when it does it piques your interest. Angel Blake has had quite the career resurgence the past few years becoming only the second person to be a two time Imperial or World Champion. Nighthawk has been away for a while, and many were fooled into thinking he was “Oni” but Hawk did make a return to active competition during the Roulette. Other than that Nighthawk has been biding his time, mixing it up with newer superstars on the undercard and training one of the brightest new Diamonds in Kimberley Jackson. The moment Angel laid his hands on Kimberley, this match took on another level, and for once Nighthawk was forced to break his stoic mannerisms and give into his emotions, leading to this eventual match. While Angel would clearly be considered a favourite going into this match, Nighthawk is not to be counted out. There is a reason he is as respected as he is, and there is a reason why so many go to him to train. The big question is now, can Nighthawk finally put all the training into action and really catapult himself up the IWF ranks? Or is Nighthawk another name in the long list of victims Angel Blake leaves behind?
LUCHADORA MATCH
Gabriella Luna Vs Amber Cooke
Charity Crowne held the Luchadora Championship from September til March, it is - to date - the longest Luchadora reign, but Gabriella put an end to that reign at High Stakes and now looks to defend her belt against a very tough challenge in Amber Cooke. These two women are incredibly talented and have a tough job ahead of them. The road to Night of the Immortals is getting closer, and one of these two will walk out of the Mediocre Canadian Bash with the title around their waist, and heading to Night of the Immortals. The question is who? Gabriella who finally put an end to Charity Crowne’s reign? Or the feisty upstart Amber Cooke who is looking to come back into the ranks of the IWF Womens division after her....."time" away and really solidify herself as a core of the division and begin building that legacy?
All I know is, we the fans, are the real winners.
IWF STRONGSTYLE CHAMPIONSHIP GAUNTLET MATCH
James Gilmore vs Andrew Jacobsen vs Rob Diamond vs Steve Awesome vs Uriel Black vs Warren Kane
This match, no disrespect meant to the ladies of course, could arguably steal the show this coming PPV. When Ethan King became the StrongStyle Champion, nobody would have expected him to go on and win the Roulette on the same night. With his place at Night of the Immortals secure? Ethan relinquished the title, and the brains behind IWF decided on this gauntlet match. To the best of my knowledge a Gauntlet match has never decided a championship in IWF, and it definitely hasn’t been the StrongStyle Championship. The caliber of wrestler in this match is enough to headline shows around the world, the G.O.A.T. Rob Diamond, the living legend Steve Awesome, the true hero Andrew Jacobsen, the protege James Gilmore, the blunt instrument Uriel Black, and the demon prince Warren Kane. Either of these men are capable of being a World Champion, and that, in and of itself brings prestige to the StrongStyle championship - not that previous holders didn’t, not at all, but that the belt is being fought over so fiercely, by so many members of the roster? It just goes to show how much it actually means. This one is going to be way to hard to call, as anything that involved The Pack, Being InFamous, or The Clergy has proven over the last several months. All I know for sure, is that this is going to be one hell of a match and may be a contender for Match of the Year.
IWF OPEN WEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Mimi Simpson vs Kimberly Jackson(c)
Here we have reigning, defending, Open Weight Champion, Kimberley Jackson defending her title against Mimi Simpson which has to be, hands down, the biggest match of her career. Kimberley is a scary woman with the skills and ability to back up her take-no-prisoners attitude, and facining her is going to be quite the test for Mimi Simpson. One has to wonder, will she step up? She has wrestling in her blood, and is an intelligent woman. There’s no way you spend that much time around the squared circle without picking up a few things. However, on the flipside is the incredibly well trained - and to a very high level - star pupil of the Wrestle Factory. We could be in for a surprise, but I hate to say it, my money is on Kimberley successfully defending her championship.
However!
Let’s not forget what went down in the tag team match between Angel and Eternity versus Nighthawk and Kimberley. Was that a one and done, or are the more sinister motives here?
EXTREME TITLE
Pax Stormcrow (c) vs Billie Parris
Another newcomer finds themselves with an illustrious title shot. Here Billie Parris has been making noise since debuting in IWF, steadily putting in performance after performance and in the eyes of the IWF brass, earning himself an Extreme Title shot. The Champion, however, as found a new lease on life and has been bringing it harder than he ever has before. Pax hasn’t had it easy the last few weeks, or months, but he has really turned it around and after a great showing in the Roulette, people have to believe that there are big things in store for this young man. The same could also be said for Billie, and it really puts this match on a knife edge, because it really could go either way, and no matter which way it does go? Both of these men should be proud of themselves. These two, really could, steal the show.
IRON MAIDEN MATCH
Elimination via pinfall or submission. Last woman standing wins a Women’s World Championship opportunity at Night of the Immortals.
Helena Sawyer v Mandi Matthews v Brooklyn Maddrox v Eternity v Dawn Halliwell v Charity Crowne
Ah, here we are. The pièce de résistance, the main event, the ticket to Night of the Immortals, and a career changing structure - the Iron Maiden. The winner gets to face Vivienne Rodgers for the Womens World Title at Night of the Immortals. Early favourites seem to be Eternity, and the bad wolf Brooklyn Maddrox but you cannot forget about the hellacious hellion Dawn Kane, the dominant former Luchadora champion Charity Crowne, the enigmatic Helena Sawyer and last but not least Mandi Matthews. The potential for this match is absolutely through the roof, and is a testament to the womens division in IWF and it’s legacy. Any one of these women could pull off the victory, and it’s hard to pick a victor out of the six of them. With the boys going on earlier in the night, they’ll surely have something to live up to, but just looking at past Iron Maiden matches, you know for a fact that won’t be a problem. It’s time for them to all stand up and really push themselves as far as they can go, because a ticket to Night of the Immortals is more than just a championship, more than just a co-main event.
It is immortality.
