Well ladies and gentlemen, that was indeed, quite the show. In my opinion it is a very strong candidate for show of the year, with several match of the year candidates, so how about we stop talking garbage, and get right into it?
Right off the bat we were gifted with some news, alongside the official reveal of the new show I shall be hosting on the IWF Network, there was also the reveal of a new reality TV show following several members of the female roster, as well as their loved ones, and romantic partners of some IWF superstars. As well as some kind of an agreement between Rayne and Crystal, with the goal being Rayne whipping Crystal into shape. I’m not sure how well this might go down, so don’t be surprised to see Rayne stomping the living crap out of Crystal in the near future.
We then got onto our first piece of the action for the night with the pre-show match between Eli Lassiter and Spencer Vain. Whilst the two gentlemen definitely put on a show, and gave a good account of themselves, and what the IWF Universe can expect from them in the future, I can’t see this being a match either will remember fondly. More like a foot in the door, than a defining moment, but I hope we get to see more from both of these men, and of course, congratulations to Spencer on the victory.
We were treated to an appearance from Dean Harper representing the Pack, who, in all honesty, have been a little quiet lately. I’m guessing from Dean’s threatening words though, that The Pack aren’t just licking their wounds, but they have something in store. Only time will tell.
Now, onto the main card!
Here’s the thing right, Angel Blake is a scary dude. Like, ignore everything else about him and just take in his presence, he’s a scary dude. Nighthawk? Not so much. Hawk has the absolute respect of everyone around him for his abilities, and his dedication to the art of wrestling, however, he doesn’t exactly have the reputation you’d put against Angel Blake. Yet, Nighthawk has been going into this whole situation with some severe ego. Where did it come from? Why now? Why all of a sudden after everything that Angel has done, has Nighthawk suddenly got this confidence, this swagger, this sheer arrogance. It seems so out of place, but it makes you want to root for him. Nighthawk SHOULD be the top dog, he SHOULD be World Champion, he SHOULD be talked about with awe and respect, but unfortunately, he’s not. It’s no secret that Hawk just hasn’t quite gotten to that level he should be at, but this recent turn of events? It’s certainly pushing him in the right direction. These two men absolutely tore the place apart. Both men were pushed to their limits, they came out with some hard hits, some brutal moves, and really tried to go that extra mile to end this. It was a match that on paper, Angel should have won easily, but paper can often lie, and Nighthawk brought his damn A game, and it showed. I mean the match ended because they beat each other up so bad, neither could continue. Yes, no contests do crop up a lot in Nighthawks history, but not like this. This wasn’t two men outwrestling each other, this was a brutal, painful, and sometimes painful to watch, war…
...and it clearly isn’t over.
Match Score: 7.5/10 - No contests aren't my thing, which hurt this rating.
Ok, so if the opening match of the card set the tone? These ladies definitely continued it. There was no time wasting, no feeling out process. Amber and Gabriella went balls to the wall, and threw absolutely everything at each other. As far as the Womens or Diamonds division in IWF has been concerned, matches like this are few and far between, but these two talented and very violent women really put their names on the map here. It was edge of the seat action, and you really didn’t know what was going to happen next, and then Gabriella manages to retain. Heart pounding action, fiery intensity, and some truly outstanding wrestling. Well done ladies.
Match Score: 7/10 - These ladies were on fire, but they're not done and that's a little too obvious.
Just, wow. I mean, seriously wow. This was absolutely incredible. There were several stories told here in this match, from Steve Awesome trying to earn some credibility back - a man who is a hall of fame calibre match machine by the way. Gilmore’s hopes and dreams coming crashing down. Andrew Jacobsen clawing, fighting, and earning his way back to the top of the mountain. Warren, getting his hands on Uriel Black, and most shocking of all? Rob Diamond NOT taking the shortcut to the gold. This match had everything, and the whole thing was fought at such a fast pace, such frenetic action, Warren Kane under The Demon Prince moniker really showcased himself that night, and it wasn’t against no-named no-talent jobbers either. Any single one of these men could have easily walked away with the StrongStyle Championship, and it was believable too. You’re heart was in your mouth the entire time, you almost began to side with Warren the further he got through the match, and of course, there’s got to be some people out there who enjoyed Warren getting his revenge on Uriel, before the truly emotional moment in the match for me. Rob Diamond pulling Warren off of Uriel, giving up his chance to win by disqualification, giving up the easy victory, and doing what was right. Intended to help someone who at this point, may as well be family. It was heart warming, it was perfect, and in my eyes, this match boosted everyone involved, and made Warren Kane a bonafide star. These six men may very well have stolen the show, and somehow, I’m not quite sure they are done.
Match Score: 9/10 - Almost stole match of the night, a truly well told story.
MIMI SIMPSON VS KIMBERLEY JACKSON
Mimi gets her big break here, a pay per view match for the Openweight Championship. A tremendous opportunity, until you consider her opponent of course. Kimberley Jackson is almost a living embodiment of the legacy the Openweight Championship has, she is a fighting champion, and will take on all comers. Whilst this was a big shot for Mimi? It was just Sunday for Kimberley, and she showed that with her dominance and ability in the ring. This woman is going places, and you know that I’ve got an eye for talent. While Mimi may have come up short, she still has plenty of chances to come. While Kimberley moves on as one of the most dominating champions in IWF.
Match Score: 5/10 - This wasn't much more than a training match for Kimberly, you expected her to win from the get go,
It wouldn’t be a pay per view event without an appearance from the IWF World Champion, right? Right! Xavier Cross found it within himself to grant us with his presence. Announcing to the world that his motivations were to protect him and his family. That he wanted to set his family up for life, and didn’t want to end up like Spike Kane. A man who literally died for his wrestling legacy. Of course, once he’d signed? Ethan King showed up, and boy Xavier wasn’t ready or happy. Me personally? I know Ethan is a tool, but there’s something I like about him. His confidence is infectious, and if you do your history? Ethan is a man of his word, just ask any ex-Combat Wrestling members. Ethan wants the gold, and in a way, he already has his hands on it. The coming match -now official- at Night of the Immortals could be one that rocks the very foundations of IWF, and we’ll ever be left with it being time to #PayTheChamp or #HailToTheKing.
Arguably a relatively tame match on the card for Mediocre Canadian Bash, given that it was for the Extreme Title. This match was very different from most of the card, as it wasn’t about bloodshed, it wasn’t about violence, or revenge, or sending a message. It was two, very gifted amateur wrestlers showcasing their abilities. Pax has been building up a steady steam, momentum building behind him. The one thing he’s wanted to do since joining IWF was to build a legacy, as this Extreme Title reign, is certainly doing that. While Billie Parris fought valiantly, and managed to show the world a little of what he was capable of, it just wasn’t enough to topple Pax Stormcrow, who really is building himself as the Ace of the company. Pax retains, and looks out for his next challenge.
Match Score: 5/10 - Similar to the Openweight title match, Pax had this in the bag,
I mean...words fail me right now. Iron Maiden matches usually end up as Match of the Year candidates, but this right here? It could be the winner right here, right now. The women involved in this ridiculous match showed everything they could. They brought the house down, filled us with tension, I’m almost certain I had an anxiety attack halfway through. I don’t have a negative word to say about any of the women involved in this match up. While the ending is rather confusing and leaves a TON of unanswered questions? I feel we must congratulate Eternity on becoming a Two Time Iron Maiden winner, if memory serves, and I’m sorry if I’m wrong, but the ONLY two time Iron Maiden. There’s clearly something more to this, Dawn Haliwell, who started off the match with Brooklyn Madrox very nearly had the match won for herself, and it would have been very well deserved, but instead? She handed the victory to Eternity, and that just blows my mind. I can’t wait to find out more, and that my friends, is good storytelling. To do this match justice, it would take me as much time to talk about it as it would to watch it. So if you haven’t? What is wrong with you? Go watch it, allow yourself to be transported to -mark out ville- and just enjoy yourselves, because each and every one of these women put their bodies on the line for your entertainment, and boy did they deliver. Not to mention that ridiculous Blood God’s Wrath, oh man…
Match Rating: 9.5/10 - It's a new system, as much as I want to I can't go throwing around perfect scores, but this? This was the closest thing I've seen to a perfect match in a long time.
So that was Mediocre Canadian Bash, we hope you enjoyed it as much as the superstars, agents, and workers enjoyed creating it for you. A big congratulations to Eternity and Warren Kane, as well as retaining champions Kimberley Jackson, Pax Stormcrow, and Gabriella Luna. We wish Brooklyn Madrox the best, and a speedy recovery.
For IWF Network, I’m Tyler Jacobs, and I’ll see you soon.
