As the women’s division in the Imperial Wrestling Federation has experienced quite a turnover in recent months with several additions from the Performance Center and the Wrestle Factory, a source close to me, a security guard speaking on condition of anonymity, recently gave me some very distressing information in regards to one of Imperial’s stars, Fiona McFly, who seemingly left the IWF after her last match against Charity Crowne at the 2018 edition of Diamonds are Forever and has not been heard from since.
My source tells me that while nobody would even know it because of her competitive in-ring nature, behind the scenes Ms. McFly had been working for an entire year while suffering from a severe case of depression after the 2017 passing of her husband, former wrestling champion Jack Gaither. My contact told me that she would often find herself reading pages from Mr. Gaither’s personal journals after every show, almost to the point of tears. Sadly, on December 26, 2018--a year after Mr. Gaither’s passing and several days before the Tokyo show--it was reported to me by this source that her parents, William--an ex-Royal Navy officer--and Katherine McFly, were involved in a horrific suicide on the family’s ancestral farmland northwest of Belfast, Northern Ireland. I was told that upon discovery of the former’s involvement in a long-running money laundering scheme with a group funded by the IRA, the latter shot him once in the head with a .45-caliber pistol before turning the gun on herself.
My source tells me that upon learning of her parents’ death, her complete and utter dissatisfaction with then-interim IWF CEO Jess Fowler which had been boiling over for the course of a year, an a now-infamous incident that took place during her match with Charity Crowne that involved a drunken Steven Bates--a.k.a. Steve Awesome--the guard reported seeing Ms. McFly storming towards an undisclosed office and slamming a very official-looking document into a receiving inbox. The piece of paper, upon the guard’s curious inspection, was a request for an indefinite leave of absence. The last thing Ms. McFly tweeted out prior to her LOA departure was “keep him away from me,” in reference to the Steve Awesome incident.
Nobody has seen or heard from Ms. McFly since the end of 2018, and while rumors and speculation are flying about on a possible July return after Bloody Assizes, my source tells me that he does not know when--or if--she will ever be back in a ring again.
