(OOC: This will be my last post, probably for quite some time, if not ever. Felt like I needed to post this as Robb and I had quite a lot of fun writing it.
Love you guys)
This is a transcript of a podcast between Tyler Jacobs and Xavier Cross.
TYLER: Welcome everyone to the return of the Tyler Tell All podcast. For those of you who aren't quite sure what this is all about, it’s real simple. I invite members of the IWF roster, alumni, maybe even some of the on screen management, and we spill the guts on their history...their run in IWF, and anything else we can get away with. As this is a new venture for IWF, there is not specific schedule, but right now? We have a treat for you, an nCw main stay, an IWF cornerstone, and now, officially, your IWF World Champion...Xavier Cross. Thank you for joining us Xavier.
Xavier Cross: thanks for having me Tyler. Big fan, miss doing the preshow panel with ya. Should we go ahead and warn the folks at home. All bets are off, put your kids to sleep. This is good brother time, drinky drinks as we go!
TYLER: Oh, we’re drinking? I didn’t bring anything…
*the sound of a bag ruffles*
Xavier: “I come prepared. Road life teaches you to always have a bottle or six. I was apart of the nefarious NCW crew. Partying is second nature.”
*pouring two glasses is heard*
TYLER: Well, when in Rome! ...and in the presence of THE CHAMP, you can’t exactly say no, can you? Tell me Xavier, is the “crew” life still a part of your regular routine?
Xavier: I've grown up a little bit, meeting Vivienne has mellowed me out a ton. I'm always at the bar after shows, best place to unwind after you're burning through adrenaline. Especially on our overseas tours. Japanese sponsor dinners are incredible…
TYLER: So I’ve heard. Those guys go all out, it’s quite a strange but interesting tradition. Speaking of strange and interesting, I know...terrible transition but still….how has living at Centrallia with The Pack affected the life, and the lives of your children?
Xavier: honestly, the kids are the happiest I've seen them in a long time. A majority of the Pack still gives me side eye and I dont blame em. But they've done right by my children and I appreciate it. You gotta remember these Pack kids, they've been through hell the majority of their lives. They've products of their environment, and I think their ruthlessness has given them a bad rap. Honestly, Bella has flourished so much here. Of course they miss their friends and stuff but they're leaped into this new chapter of their lives, and Rowan, Dean and company have been good to them. I'm eternally grateful for that.
TYLER: Even Warren?
Xavier: Warren is a special case. I looked up to Spike...and my relationship with Warren is complicated. Hes a good kid dealing with shit. I still have a bit of a shiner from his punch. I had a terrible relationship with Spike up until his passing. I dont plan on making the same mistake with Warren.
TYLER: It seems like the animosity between you two stems from some flirting with a certain Dean Harper? Is it perhaps that the flirting was reciprocated that seems to have angered young Warren? We've got an awful lost of evidence that proves his father was quite possessive (usually over gold rather than people) and we Al saw what he did to Uriel Black at Mediocre Canadian Bash… - sigh- I still can't believe that got through.
Xavier: Warren loves Dean, and Dean is the first person in Warren's life to show him love without wanting anything in return. Of course the kid is gonna get jealous, Dean and I nearly killed each other. Now hes like my brother. -clears throat- Warren has every reason in the world to hate me, distrust me. I play a little too much, and the kid has a short fuse. Baby Kane still has some maturing to do.
TYLER: Wheras maturing seems to be something you have spent a lot of time doing. How did it feel when you debut here, and when you came back with the Council, and now that you're on top? Is the difference noticeable?
Xavier: I came to IWF to prove that I was a top guy..something that didnt translate in NCW. I was the inaugural heavyweight champion and things felt better but I got burnt quick, injuries flaring up and my drug abuse isn't a secret...then when I assembled the council, I wanted to mirror great factions. Infamous, Empire, etc but I had a group of young guys I wanted to help guide while trying to destroy what i saw as a hierarchy. The Pack was born from the blood of the Council and they seemed to Tyler:have accomplished that mission. Now...being on top, it's a pressure I never imagined to be honest. The belt almost feels symbiotic, making you paranoid and shit. But as I stepped out of the ring holding the belt as a free agent, other champions got to shine in my absence which overall makes a better product. I havent ran away from the fact I'm closer to the end of my career than the beginning, and I want to leave the product in an overall better place then where I found it. The next generation is extremely talented and I look forward to braving the storm ahead to make things better.
TYLER: That is quite the noble outlook and desire, if I'm honest. It seems like, much like factions like the Empire, the motive was to elevate younger, hungrier talent. It seems like you've really come a long way since nCw. It was all but common knowledge that Spike Kane was a locker room leader, do you think you have filled that void? Or does that honour slash responsibility fall to someone else?
Xavier: I'm always vocal, I dont consider myself a leader but like...an older brother? Like if someone is acting out of line I'll try to straighten it up. If they need advice I'll say what I can, if they're frustrated I'm more than happy to let em vent. But all in all any major issues are handled as a court style, luckily it's been ages since that was needed. Heck I've been summoned to court before…
TYLER: Now come on you can't leave us with a cliffhanger like that. Can you tell us? Or do you have any other stories about court you could share?
Xavier: I was a rookie in ncw. Uh God I got some heat backstage because I was friends with Brent Sampson, and some felt like my push at the time was due to that. So bam, locker room gathers around. Spike at the forefront and Brad Kane is just giving me the business. So in the end I paid bar tabs for a month and bought Spike a very expensive bottle of scotch...all in all Verona and co have ran a very hospitality environment so it's an old tradition used to spark fear in the rookies.
TYLER: That sounds both hilarious and terrifying at the same time. IWF does seem different though, just the outright attitude and feeling from everyone involved. Do you think the road life has changed, maybe that has had an impact?
Xavier: I think it's a positive competitive atmosphere. Like it's not about who's on top, it's about being better than everyone every week. We push each other to outperform. Theres a reason we are on a path to have a full year of sold out streak. Like that's incredible. The talent is top, but there is humility just the same. Wrestling has changed from bitterness to betterment.
TYLER: So that old age thinking of "protecting my spot" has faded away?
Xavier: I think its more… i have my own spot and it's my job to bring the light to my spot. You can only be as big as you let yourself, as hard as you work...there doesnt feel like...hey I'm being fucked over because this suit doesnt like me. You're behind the wheel of your career, if something isnt clicking. Figure it out, the resources are there, talk to the suits, talk to the vets, talk to me. Let's figure out what's not working.
TYLER: That's truly heart warming to hear, and I'm glad you got the chance to air that to everyone. It's inspiring, and who knows? May encourage some youngsters out there to take up the art. If you don't mind now, Xavier, I'd like to turn a head towards Night of the Immortals and you're match with Roulette winner Ethan King, for the IWF world championship. One thing you two have in common, is Andrew Jacobsen. Does that play a part in anything during this build up?
Xavier: Jacobsen has always been a big part of my life. Hell always be that cute little kid. I got closer to Jacobsen when we were both in Japan, which is where he met Ethan as well. Jacobsen and I havent been on the best terms since I joined the Pack. But I have Vivienne to shield me from his wrath. I mean, Jacobsen is going to an interesting cog in the machine. Ethan wants to stack the deck against me. The man has barely earned a thing in his life, money talks louder than anything including actions…
TYLER: Is that what guided this whole "pay the champ" thing?
Xavier: social media man. It's a massive thing in today's climate. IWF stayed trending and I did more to bring attention to this company than anyone before..I'm off being this brash arrogant superstar. Like baseball players are signing 10 year 400 million dollar contracts. I'm setting an example. Know what your worth, get paid. The fans gravitated to it and it took off. I'm all about ‘the brand' and interacting with the fan base.
TYLER: That's a very unique way of looking at things, and it makes sense. So now, let's try some word association?
Will Washington.
Xavier: good brother, underrated, needs to get his ass back in the business.
Andrew Jacobsen.
Xavier: double digit inches. Best dude. Goat
Spike Kane.
Xavier: Legend
Jason Sandman.
Xavier: good brother, hopefully gets that head straight
InFamous.
Xavier: Unadulterated Entertainment
Vivienne Rogers.
Xavier: Hot. HOT. SO HOT. best in the business. I cant wait to see Vivienne and Eternity
The Pack.
Xavier: Family
And of course, Ethan King.
Xavier: Almost his time, not yet
TYLER: Well Xavier, its been an absolute pleasure to have you on the show, and thank you so much for agreeing to be the first guest as re reboot this series. I wish you and Vivienne all the best heading into Night of the Immortals, and hope you enjoy it as much as you seem to be enjoying yourself now.
Xavier: whoa over already? I'm barely tipsy and we havent talked about Game of Thrones, how I rocked the hell out of a dress in the hashtag pay the champ commercial.
TYLER: I guess that means we'll have to do an episode two then?.. We can still drink when we go off air, you know, if you wanted to.
Xavier: of course I do. You're a good brother Tyler, you're apart of this business. You know what it's like in between the ropes and you got a great take on the business. I'll do six episodes! But seriously, how hot did I look in that dress?
TYLER: Umm we're out of time I'm afraid. Thank you once again, IWF World Champion, Xavier Cross. I've been Tyler Jacobs, and I'll see you soon.
*the credits Play out as Xavier argues how hot he was in that dress*
Love you guys)
