The IWF Heir to the Throne tournament is an annual tournament to determine the number one contender for the IWF Men's World Championship. The Heir to the Throne is an eight week tournament following the Anniversary pay-per-view which covers six episodes of IWF Monday Night Sacrifice and the IWF Bloody Assizes pay-per-view inbetween before concluding at the IWF Legacy pay-per-view where the winner takes on the current IWF World Champion.
The Heir to the Throne is an eight man tournament who compete every week to accumulate points which determine their place in an eight man table. Participants earn a basic 5 points for pinfall victories, 3 points for disqualifications or count outs, 0 points for a double count out and 10 points for a submission victory. Different rewards can be applied to matches at the discretion of tournament officials, but they must be applied across the board to all matches involving the participants. During the final two episodes of IWF Sacrifice in the build up to the IWF pay-per-view the top four participants enter an elimination phase where 1st place competes with 4th and 2nd with 3rd before the winners compete in a number one contenders match the following week to determine the winner.
In the event that 4th place and below are tied on points the semi-final match will be a multiple-participant gauntlet with the 1st placed combatant entering last.
If a participant is forced to drop out of a tournament they will be replaced at the discretion of the IWF Administrative Staff. In this event all of the points they have accumulated will be removed and their replacement will be given a number of points equivalent to 5 less than the bottom placed participants if they drop out before or during IWF Bloody Assizes, any participant who is forced to retire after this will not be replaced.
