Inside the dual-purpose studio that serves as an office and an apartment, on the All Infamous Wrestling campus, Fiona McFly is sitting at her desk, taking a sip from a bottle of water. She looks like she had just woke up from a long night's worth of sleep, and she is showing some signs of discomfort in her neck as evidenced by a massaging gadget she's wearing to help relieve the stress. She takes a heavy breath, knowing full well that whilst this isn't an easy announcement to make, she felt compelled to do so in order to give fans an update on her health.
FIONA MCFLY:
As some might have noticed by now, I have been considerably slower in my in-ring work in recent matches. Early last month, I visited a neck specialist in Fort Worth 'cos, in recent days, I've been having discomfort in my neck.
She took another sip from her water bottle as she took the massager off of her neck, feeling a little more comfortable than before. At first, her voice was calm and collected, almost dignified in a manner of speaking.
FIONA:
In January 2019, I underwent a procedure to correct spondylosis, which is a disc degeneration in the cervical area of my neck. Since the procedure, I have been addressing the problem with a wide variety of medicines as well as massage treatments. However...my doctor called me this past Friday and told me that my spondylosis is starting to gradually get worse and has recommended that I undergo a spinal fusion procedure. When I asked her what this meant in terms of my career, she told me that...
Fiona paused, closing her eyes as her lips quivered and her tone changed. She realised, at that moment, that these were words that she didn't want to say.
FIONA:
...that I won't be able to wrestle anymore...
She had lost her composure at this juncture, her breaths very laboured as she had a difficult time processing what her doctors told her. In her mind, Fiona wasn't crying becaus she was hurt. She was crying because of the certainty of what a spinal fusion procedure meant, that she wasn't going to be able to work in a ring and do what she loved in front of a crowd.
FIONA:
When you're traveling and training, you learn to appreciate the business. When you become a Champion as I have, you learn to love this sport. Yet...when you realise that you might not be able to do this anymore, you still appreciate your time in the business 'cos you woke up every morning, put in the patience, the time, the work...and made a ton of memories...
Fiona, trying to keep her voice together but to great difficulty, closed her eyes once more and took another sip from her water bottle.
FIONA:
All of you helped make those memories happen -- the fanbase, my friends on the road, and so much more -- and I'm grateful for that. I really, really am...Rob, Yulia, JJ -- especially JJ, there's a reason why I like to call him my pocket full of sunshine.
Fiona tried to flash a warm, loving smile yet it came out rather awkward and embarrassing. In her heart, she knew that James Gilmore was the one who introduced her to Rob Diamond and, yes, even Steve Awesome. It was the Islander alum who sat her down, back in 2018, and offered her the chance to get help. She firmly believed that JJ was the "Little Bear" that drove Being Infamous, the heart and soul who turned a comedy act into one of IWF most successful stables.
She took a deep breath, resolving herself to regain her sense of composure.
FIONA:
Right now, I'm currently waiting on some alternatives to having the spinal fusion done on me, but if it has to be done, when it'll happen will be up to me in concert with the doctor. In the here and now, I'm going to have to make some lifestyle changes -- the first of which being that I won't be driving back and forth from the Academy to my house in Fredericksburg, which is three-and-a-half hours' drive either way. I'll be on-campus one week so I can coach in-person and on my ranch another week so I can coach virtually via Zoom -- on a rotational basis. As for my in-ring career...?!
She took one more sip from her drink before picking up a framed photograph...
FIONA:
I know I'm going to have my good days. I also know I'm going to have my bad days. Regardless of whiat happens from here...I'm going to fight the pain and keep on entertaining you, 'cos I can't bear to give up on you all after not giving up on me for all these years. I love you all...and I hope to see everyone on the show.

It featured James and Fiona standing side-by-side outside the famous Cotton Bowl in Fair Park, dated "COTOBER 10, 2020", holding onto souvenir replicas of their respective World Championships whilst being surrounded by a large group of joyful fans celebrating the annual Texas-Oklahoma football game -- perhaps, a symbol that what they had accomplished in the same year will never be taken away from them.
