Post Diamonds Are Forever
We cut to Tiffany Jones backstage, with a microphone in hand. She’s waiting just after the main event of Diamonds Are Forever has concluded. Abigail walks back through the black curtain all alone and in complete silence. Not even her music played to accompany her on the long walk back up the ramp tonight.
Maybe that’s why none of this felt like a victory at all. She’d done it, she’d overcome her gravest challenge to date. In the past two months of her reign at the top of the mountain in the best professional wrestling women’s division on the planet, she’d survived consecutive encounters with Rowan MacDonnough and Eternity. Two of the biggest, baddest, toughest challenges in the entire damn company. She should be on top of the world right now, instead all she felt was gutted, hollow, empty and meaningless.
She adjusted the Women’s World Championship over her shoulder, and sighed as Tiffany Jones unceremoniously shoved a microphone in her face, looking for answers that she didn’t have, no doubt.
Tiffany Jones: Abigail! Abigail, do you have a moment, please? I’d like to ask you a few questions. First, how does it feel to have overcome your greatest challenge yet? You just beat the four time Women’s World Champion, two time Heiress to the Throne and bonafide IWF Hall of Famer, Eternity out there. You just successfully defended your Women’s World Championship against seemingly overwhelming odds. That’s got to feel pretty good, right?
Abigail sighs, a slight shake of her head.
Abigail: Yeah, you’d fuckin’ think so, wouldn’t ya?
Tiffany awkwardly waits a few moments for Abigail to continue but she doesn’t, forcing Tiffany to abruptly move on.
Tiffany Jones: So, um...we now know who you’ll be facing at Metamorphosis next month, any thoughts on your first big challenger of the new year, Virginia Stepanov?
Abigail: My opinion of her hasn’t changed. Personally, I can’t stand her, though I’m sure that feeling is mutual. But professionally, I can’t deny her athleticism. She’s one of the best pure athletes we have on the roster currently, an’ she’s earned her right ta face me again, one on one, this time. I’ve been provin’ that I treat everyone who steps up ta me as a legit threat. I don’t have the luxury of underestimatin’ any damn body in the Division. Don’t matter if you’re Candy Kane or Eternity, or anyone in between, you stand opposite me I’m gonna give ya my very best damn shot...
Tiffany Jones: I see, and what about what we saw out there after your match? The apparent...union of Rowan MacDonnough, Jessica Reed and Eternity, what do you think it means for the Imperial Wrestling Federation going forward into the New Year? What does it mean to you personally? What does it mean for your apparent...friendship with Eternity?
Abigail clenched her jaw, bit her tongue. Held it a moment to recompose herself.
Abigail: It means...I’m done answerin’ your stupid questions, so get that fuckin’ mic outta my face, before I shove it up your nosy ass...
Abigail walks off, leaving Tiffany feeling thoroughly embarrassed. Obviously she’d crossed too personal a line with that last question. The most important question of all, saved to the end, but still no satisfactory answer. Would we ever get one? Only time would tell...
