Wrestler's Name: Kelvin Rivers
Nickname(s): The Quintessential Competitor, British Supreme Style
Gimmick: To put it briefly, Kelvin Rivers is England’s answer to Kurt Angle. A former amateur wrestler, Rivers made his breakthrough at the London Olympic Games in 2012 where he, at the age of 18, won a silver medal. While this was a fine achievement in the eyes of everyone else, Rivers felt it was a monumental failure on his part not to secure the gold.
This led him to turning his back on amateur wrestling, walking out on Team GB and vowing never to return to competition.
After a four-year hiatus he was tempted back into action, this time in the world of professional wrestling. Having spent the last four years dining out on his reputation and mixing with the great and not-so-good of the celebrity circles of central London he saw the bright lights and pyro of professional wrestling a perfect place for his greatness to be acknowledged.
Hugely self-confident on the surface (but with an underlying frustration about his perceived failure in 2012) he believes himself to be the best ‘legit’ wrestler in the world today. His time away from the ring has only inflated his ego, surrounding himself with yes-men and hangers-on meaning he now considers himself ‘The Quintessential Competitor’ of professional wrestling.
Height: 5 ft 10
Weight: 190 lbs
Place of Birth: Oxford, England
Alignment: Heel
Pic Base: Tyler Bate
Appearance/Attire: Basically, Tyler Bate as he appears above with an attire that alternates between wrestling shorts or singlet with Union Jack inspired motif. He wears a tracksuit top for his entrance.
Theme Music: ‘Chariots of Fire’ by Vangelis
Entrance: Smoke and sparkler pyro lights up the top of the ramp as the opening bars of ‘Chariots of Fire’ by Vangelis reverberate around the arena. As the piano kicks in Kelvin Rivers makes his way slowly out from the back, his hands clasped behind his back.
He walks through the pyro, pausing at the top of the ramp, throwing his head back, eyes closed and taking a deep breathe through his nose. After a few seconds he flops forward in a flamboyant bowing motion. He holds that position for a few seconds before swinging back up and slowly making his way down the ramp to the ring, smirking at the fans as he does.
He rolls into the ring under the bottom rope, walks to the middle of the ring and bows once again, then heads over to the referee to shake his hand.
Primary Style: Technical/Mat Wrestling
Secondary Style: Brawler
Strengths: Accomplished mat wrestler with strong submission skills
Weaknesses: Struggles against big, physical, overpowering opponents
Favourite Moves: Bow and arrow hold. Diving clothesline. Diving crossbody. Rolling overhead mule kick. Dropkick. Headscissors takedown. Judo throw. Moonsault to the outside. Multiple suplex variations: Exploder, German, Bridging Tiger
Trademark Move(s) and Description(s):
‘Deadliest Rope Elbow Drop’ – Diving elbow drop from the middle turnnbuckle
‘The Most Powerful Punch’ - Left-handed Punch using brass knuckles (used only in desperation or non-DQ matches)
Running Knee Trembler
Finisher(s) and Description:
‘Off With His Head!’ – Cross Rhodes/Hero’s Welcome
‘St George’s Sleeper’ – Dragon Sleeper
