The morning after the longest night of Abigail’s life, and she was still getting used to her duffel bag feeling lighter than it had in months. It was slung over her shoulder and a little easier to carry on this Monday morning. The first day of a new week and a new month, without the Women’s World Championship weighing her down, she checked out of the hotel a little quicker.
The woman behind the reception desk smiled at her as Abigail reached for her credit card to settle her bill. She was no longer Women’s World Champion, so it was no longer as simple as putting everything on the IWF company expense account for Roberto Verona to settle later.
”Good morning, sleep well?” The receptionist asked.
”Yes, thank you,” Abigail smiled.
Nothing lasts forever, Abigail knew, not even something as impressive as her Women’s World Championship reign, and there was a strange comfort in that as an indisputable fact of life. She’d gone to bed last night more at peace with herself than she had at months. Maybe because she’d gone into Danger Zone having accepted the fact that the odds were against her and that she could lose the title without even being involved in the decision, and that is exactly what happened.
Tara had simply found herself in the right place at the right time to capitalise over Virginia. There was no shame, no mistake, nothing to beat herself up about the way the match ended. Not this time, not like at Metamorphosis.
The receptionist shook her head, “No, it’s okay, Miss Spencer. Your fiancée already took care of it.”
”My fiancée?” Abigail asked, pulling the card back.
The receptionist nods just beyond Abigail towards the sitting area behind her where Eternity is sat, her legs crossed, and her head tilted to the left, her strawberry red hair done up in pigtails. Her eyes sparkle as she meets Abigail’s gaze.
”Haven’t forgotten me already, have you my love?”
”Never.” Abigail smiled, her own eyes lighting up at the vision behind her.
”You two make an adorable couple,” the receptionist said, “If you don’t mind me saying?”
”Not at all, we get it all the time,” Abigail said, playing along.
Abigail almost skipped over to Eternity as she felt her heart skip a beat.
”Fiancée huh?” Abigail grinned.
”Thought wife sounded too presumptuous.”
”I could have lived with it,” Abigail kissed Eternity softly on the cheek. “To keep up appearances,” she whispered.
”That is important,” Eternity nodded, before she kissed Abigail fully on the lips.
Abigail who clearly wasn’t expecting it, immediately touches her lips in shock.
”All this time and I can still take her breath away,” Eternity told the watching receptionist, who seems a little flushed at the display herself.
Abigail is still touching her lips, processing the moment even as Eternity takes her by the hand and leads her out of the hotel and into the light outside.
”Come darling, let’s take you home.”
