-Then-
{Cable and Gjenrei sat at the small table in the back corner of a simple pub. Cable, visually irritated, checked his watch again in exasperation. Gjenrei merely sat there, stoic. If there was anything the man from Japan had, it was patience.}
" I wish whoever it is would get here already, I don't like this waiting around in secret, nonsense. "
" I feel perhaps fate may be toying with us.. "
" How so? "
" Call it intuition, but this mystery man with a proposition just may be someone we're completely not expecting. "
" You too, huh? "
{They lapsed back into silence, the waiting game resuming. A drunken fight almost started across the bar, and they caught their eye for a moment, long enough for another man to appear next to the table.}
" Hope I'm not interrupting anything.. "
{Cable turned first, seeing Spike Kane, the man who in the future would be soon the Imperial Champion. Cable started to stand, ready for the fight he was sure was coming, but Spike held up his hand.}
" I didn't come here to fight. I came here to propose an idea. "
" You have sixty seconds... "
" I know you've seen it. The lackluster attempt to grow IWF as it's own place, always clinging to the shades of the past. I'm here to change all of that. "
" A man a part of that past should welcome the reliving of his glory days. "
" Then you clearly don't know me very well. The black sheep chooses more often than not to say to hell with it and move on with his life. But I can't do that without cutting the apron strings and prying IWF off the tit of nCw.. "
" Sounds all well and good, but what do you want with us? "
" You, are the future of wrestling, carrying on after I'm gone. You're also trained in the old ways, yet have new philosophies on the business itself. In short, you're the perfect men to help me usher in this new era that crushes the past in the blinding light of the new future. "
{Cable and Gjenrei looked at one another a long moment, decisions being made without even so much as a word being exchanged. They both turned to Spike, and each nodded.}
" Alright, let's here what you have to say.. "
" I knew you'd understand. "
--------------------------------------------------
"People look at Mike Machado and see a joke. A man that up until recently had no wrestling training, posessed no skills or knowledge of the ring, all he had was his heart and his will to get up when all intellect would tell him to stay down.
Cool story, bro. Needs more dragons.
Having heart, having courage is all well and good, but if it's backed by sheer suicidal stupidity, then it is entirely meaningless. I've trained my mind and body to fear nothing, to withstand pain and injury to the extremes, in an effort to always maintain my sense of self and knowledge of my environment. may not fear death or pain, but that doesn't mean I'm going to stand in the street while a bus is coming. You're in way over your head Machado. Sure, the crowd always being behind the story of the underdog is heartwarming, but all stories come to an end, and the underdog story always ends tragically one way or another. Notice how they always stop after that one uphill climb is finished? Because once that summit is reached, everything changes.
Wrestling a man like Jake Keeton to draws, pushing the man to his limits is an impressive feat for most men. But when you put your faith in yourself based upon just that, you learn to start settling. When you start settling for whatever you can get, you might as well simply give up and persue other venues. There's a difference between learning from your failures and simply accepting that they happen.
A lesson you need to learn, right quick.
If you aren't using what happened to be better as a person and a wrestler, you might as well just crawl into a hole. Or where-ever people go when they believe the wrestling world has gotten too hard and they need time off. You know, where cowards go to lick their wounded pride.
But, I don't think that's you, Machado. You may be a naive idiot, but you have more heart than most men I've seen. A lot of lesser men would simply write you off as a joke, but I'm more enlightened than most, and I've already planned for your unique skill set. I've already developed dozens of strategies for your unpredictability, your ability to take pain and keep getting up.
Keeton underestimated you, which is why you were able to keep up with him.
I won't make that mistake.
You may be comfortable running out of bathrooms and pretending you're a real wrestler, but color me unimpressed. I didn't sign up for this brutal job to find myself dealing with people who were happy giving half the effort, settling for the middle, and being so cavalier to the sheer amount of effort this job takes that the most noteworthy accomplishment they can hope to achieve is almost beating a legend and bombing out bathrooms.
But hey, if that's how you want to live.. poorly and in the dark, then be my guest. America, land of the free and whatnot. Though if I were you, I'd find something to back up all that heart and courage, pretty fast. I'd hate to see all that heart destroyed because you failed to see the bus coming down the path, or that you did see it, and chose to accept fare, rather than fight for your own way.
Choosing the cowards way out, or to fight for what you believe in.
Choosing death or dishonor.
Make your choice, Machado.
Before I do it for you."

-Now-
" Real cute guys. "
{Amber was standing in the doorway, arms crossed over her chest, staring at the two men standing in the locker room. They stopped what they were doing to look at her, but said nothing.}
" When were you going to let me in on your little plan? "
" When you actually needed to know.. "
" I wasn't talking to you. Cable? "
{Cable exhaled slowly.}
" When you needed to know.. "
" I don't believe this. "
" You are required to do nothing, least of all believe. "
" You shut the hell up! "
" Calm down, Amber. Everything is going as planned, you don't need to worry about a thing. It's all under control. "
{Usually, Cable's assurances could at least calm her somewhat, but not today it would seem.}
" Calm down? You're allied with the man who basically almost killed you, and I'm supposed to calm down!? What the hell is wrong with you? Was that part of the plan? "
" Of course not, but you of all people should know the dangers of the ring. "
{Amber exhaled slowly, her arms falling to her side. She was still angry, but she felt this was an impasse argument, so she simply turned on her heels.}
" I hope you know what you're doing. Getting into bed with that... thing.. Don't expect me to pick up those pieces again.. "
{Then, she was gone. Cable sighed.}
" She's either with you, or she isn't. It's her choice to make. "
" Doesn't mean I have to like it. "
" No, it doesn't. "
