Tara had been sitting in the parking garage following the closing of Sacrifice… it seemed like everyone had gone home except for the custodian crew, but Tara sat on the hood of her car and peered out through an opening to the night sky. She had a bottle clasped in her hand and raised it to her lips, taking a long drink, when footsteps could be heard. She paid little mind to it until they sounded closer, and she looked to see Steve Awesome walking toward her… she turned her attention away, and back to the stars while taking another drink from the whiskey.
“I’m glad you’re still here,” he called out. The words caused her to turn her attention back to him, and he stopped at the car, “May I?” he asked, gesturing to the car.
“Sure…” Tara answered, and took another swig from the bottle. Steve hopped onto the car and leaned back onto the hood of the car, too, and Tara held the bottle out as an offering to Steve. There wasn’t much left. Steve shook his head.
“No thanks,” Steve said, holding his hand out to also decline the offer, “I haven’t touched a drop of alcohol in a while…”
“Suit yourself.” Tara replied.
“You drank that whole thing?” asked Steve. Tara nodded her head while giving the bottle a shake and could see and hear it nearing the bottom. “You and I have known each other a long time… hell, before you and Angel even hooked up. So can I just say something as a friend? Mandi didn’t mean it like that. Maybe you could cut her some slack?”
“She disrespected me, Steve…” Tara replied, a slight slur in her speech, “I’ve been disrespected enough for the past couple of years! I’ve bit my tongue… I’ve brushed it off… and look where it got me… I lost my son.”
Tara finished the last of the bottle, and almost launched it away, but Steve caught her arm and took the bottle away so he could properly dispose of it, “That’s littering. I know you aren’t exactly… yourself… right now, but come on. You’ve never been one to put up with being disrespected, and I’m telling you: Mandi meant no disrespect. Just hear her out. You’re smarter than that. You’re better than that. Now… gimme your keys. I’m gonna call you an Uber.”
Tara fumbled for the keys to her rental, and Steve pulled his phone out. Tara held the keys out and Steve took them from her, then she proceeded to lay down on the hood of the car while the word spun around her.
