BEHIND THE SCENES
{ The following is a series of blog posts written by Fiona McFly, to be updated frequently. }
28 June 2022: After filming two very critical scenes, "Reunited" and "Reacquainted," IWF representatives gathered around to take in a tour of the 25th century hangar set and ask questions. [Director] Adam, as it turns out, is a longtime wrestling fan who's worked with several top names in various film projects through the years. It's an honour to have IWF representatives come in and learn more about the project.
7 August 2022: Working on a movie can be hell sometimes, yes? But it's well worth it -- the more takes I do, the more I tend to feel comfortable in my role. I'll be in Alaska with the second unit, working close-ups as they get the feeling for the ice planet my character will be stuck on in the film. I don't mind being out in the colder weather -- although I do feel bad for a good chunk of the United States being placed under heat advisories.
Hopefully all areas can cool off once September comes...
18 September 2022: Great news! Principal photography is almost finished, and I got to meet the composer. He urges people to listen to its soundtrack when it's released next week in complete form. Whilst he didn't give any specifics, he DID say that the score will be a love letter to three of film's greatest composers -- JOhn Williams, James Horner, and Jerry Goldsmith.
Oh, and he's gonna throw in some Mozart for good measure...
FUN FACTS
-After numerous delays in post-production, which thwarted a New Years Day 2023 release date, Lunar Whale is scheduled to be released in the United States on April 7, 2023 and internationally on April 14th. The former date is significant in that it will mark Fiona McFly's 41st birthday.
-The blue-haired waitress in the 25th century version of Club 47 was played by Caroline Machado, who is known to be a devoted Trekkie.
-Zelda Simpson makes an appearance as the non-commissioned officer who sold the used Starfleet runabout to Fiona's character in the film.
-Sports commentator Gus Johnson makes a cameo as himself, via holographic projection, as he hosts the Club 47 karaoke contest.
-Fiona was legitimately drunk whilst performing the karaoke scene. The idea behind her choice stems from her character's depression and desire to set things right and return home from the 25th century. The "Romulan ale" featured in the scene in question was a combination of blue Gatorade and Guinness Irish whiskey.
-Scenes involving Admiral Evelyn Beckham's (Tilda Swinton) private estate were filmed on the campus of Dallas Baptist University.
-Scenes at the Mozart recital were filmed in the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, Texas.
-Scenes taking place on the distant planet Dinasia were filmed in Alaska. The Espers' village was filmed in the small town of Barrow.
-The set for the main concourse of Earth Spacedock was built based upon designs seen in the MMO Star Trek Online.
-The use of CGI was limited in this production. The filmmakers wanted to bring back an old-school aesthetic to the production -- which means heavy use of models, miniatures, puppets, and blue screen.
-Caroline Machado, along with James Gilmore and Fiona McFly, split duties handling fight coreography. Throughout the production, Fiona did most of her own stunts.
